I use the Epson 2000P and the prints (on a good paper) are equal or better than the photographic prints of the same size. The thing is my originals are 4x5 slides, scanned with a quality scanner :-) Printouts with the same printer from a (current technology) digital camera file would not be very nice. I get print stability (100 years or more) as a bonus. Also, the color management is a lot easier with the computer darkroom. It's not uncommon that lens maximum apertures are marked wider than they actually are. Also, the advertised lens focal length is actually something slightly different. Re: Tripod Head Recommendations for Pentax 67
At 09:07 20.9.2001 -0700, Mark wrote: I'm ready to upgrade my tripod head to something that handles the Pentax 67 effectively. Currently, I have the Bogen 3262QR and 3030. Both work fine when in the horizontal position. When I shoot verticals, I run into problems with the camera shifting. The little plates that go with the 3262 and 3030 just don't hold tightly enough and the camera winds up rotating downwards (especially when I have the 135 Macro with extension tubes). Okay, I know the photo.net geeks all recommend the Arca Swiss head and Really Right Stuff plate combo. Yes, it's is an awesome way to go but that's out of my price range. I'm considering the Bogen 3055 (heavy duty ball head) or 3275 (geared head). Will these work okay when shooting verticals? Any other recomendations? I'm open to other brands as long as it fits onto the Bogen 3401 (I hope I don't have to upgrade that as well). I finally received my new head this week. It's the Arca Swiss Monoball B1. It is a fantastic ballhead and can be attached to any 5/8 tripod screw. I have it installed on my Berlebach wooden tripod (http://www.berlebach.de) and am doing to use it with my Pentaxes as well as my wooden Wista 4x5 field camera. It does accept incredibly heavy loads while still being pretty lightweight and beautiful :-) It has this incredible ball friction control which can be set and then the camera can be freely moved but it holds spot on without slipping after you take your hands off (camera can be in any position)! It has an aspherical ball so the friction increases aspherically when the camera is tilted. Arca Swiss does not have a homepage (which anyone could connect to) but you'll find pictures of the head in BH home and other places in the net. Best place for me to purchase it was http://www.robertwhite.co.uk, at least they seemed to be the most cost effective and they have a fantastic service ! The only bad thing about this head is the price... but it really seems to be the best ball head money can buy. Highly recommended! Re: On a completely different tack - My first LX.
At 01:58 13.9.2001 -0700, Jody wrote: I got my very first LX today. It is so wonderfully gorgeous. I fall more in love with it every moment (I really need to get out more, don't I). It is lovely to hold, and wind on. The shutter makes a glorious clunk. It reminds me of my beloved Spottie, only better. It will get worse... you'll start wanting for LX accessories and eventually yet another LX. Now I have one or two (maybe more) questions. 1. I remember some talk about the tri-function lever on the front. MLU which I managed, and what else? I seem to remember something about a self-timer, but can't seem to work it. When you push the lever to the same direction as with the MLU without pushing the button, you will get DOF preview. Pushing the lever to the other direction, you will get the self timer (I cannot remember if you need to push the button the same time or not but try it). 2. The dial on top has me really perplexed. It goes from ¼x to 4x. What is it? Exposure compensation dial. At 4x end you will get 4 times as much exposure :-) (= 2 f-stops) 3. Doesn't it work with FA lens on shutter-priority? I thought I had wrecked it, because the mirror got locked up when I pressed the shutter. However, after a while I thought of turning S/S dial off auto, and it came down. Only aperture priority with LX. If you set the lens aperture at A, it actually is f/22 or f/32 or whatever is the smallest aperture of the given lens. And the OTF automatics will try to expose for very very long time (really long if there is no film in). That is why the mirror stayed up and the shutter open. The mirror may also lock up if there is not enough juice in the batteries when used on the Auto mode. 4. Serial number 527. How old? Hard to say. But I recall there is some information about the LX serial numbers on the net somewhere. Anyone remember where ? 5. Can you get the lugs and grip off? How? How strong are the lugs? They are very strong, and yes, you can get them off. There is a little piece of sheet metal clip which you can push out with a small screwdriver or similar blade or a pin on the lower part (closest to the body) of the lugs. Then the lugs can be popped off. The grip comes off after turning the screw anticlockwise (1/4 of a turn ? Don't have the LX handy right now). --- * Antti-Pekka Virjonen * Fiskarsinkatu 7 D * GSM: +358 400 789753 * * Computec Oy Turku* FIN-20750 Turku Finland * Fax: +358 2 413 * - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Your all time favourite lens....
My most favourite Pentax lens must be the SMC 15/3.5. After that come the A* 300/2.8 and A* 85/1.4 (which is still quite new to me). I'm still thinking about getting the FA* 24/2.0 .. if I get manage to get some details on how good it is wide open at infinity (astrophoto etc). I will wait to see if/when Pentax releases the possible 18...20mm Limited lens (I hope it will be faster than f/2.8). New LX screens
I also managed to get two new LX screens (SE-60 SC-69) from Japan, with the help of a listmember. Thank you, you know who you are ! I had a little time to test last night and installed the SE-60 in place of the Beattie screen I had on the LX. The new screen is simply fantastic! Subjects pop into sharp focus like the snap of fingers. The new screen is also lovely bright and ultra smooth (practically no grain). If the new MZ-S screens are like this.. who needs AF ??? I think the (P)Z-1(p) screens are not this good. I then used a couple of different lenses and noticed that even with the SMC 15/3.5 the new screen gives me wonderful brightness from corner to corner. The older LX screens have problems with the ultra-wide-angles in the dark. This is one reason why I have mostly used the Beattie before (plus it has a grid). The Beattie is nicely bright but is also very grainy (and not too easy to focus). Anyone wanna buy the Beattie for the LX ?? MZ-S noise...
Hi! I believe that none of you have actually yet taken any photos with the new camera (MZ-S)... but many have already started to complain about missing features and missing bells and whistles. It's a fact that ALL and every camera (and other technical gadgets) always miss some features and the design is a compromise. C'mon... Pentax developed a nice small metal body with nice new features and improvements (like new multi point AF and imprinting etc.). Compare it to the big ugly monsters from the others: it's true some of them have features that sound like pulled out from a science fiction movie and they are bulky.. but honestly.. do they take that much better pictures ?? I find the new MZ-S very nice according to the facts published up to now. Also, a matching new digital body... I'd say this is not bad, not bad at all! Spring time is coming close, get your cameras and go shoot some film!
