You may wish to check your energy savings settings on your new iMac, to see if you have the external drives set to sleep when not in use. Re: OT Mac help
Hi Dave, You might have a format problem with the older drives. If there’s enough free space on one to hold all the files, you might want to move them over and reformat the empty drive. Then, repeat with the other drive. Or simply by a hard rive of 2T or more and move the files to that drive, then reformat the empty drives. Re: OT Photoshop 2024 help
I opened the image in Photoshop, drew quite loosely around the tripod head with the lasso tool, then edit/generative fill and clicked fill with nothing in the dialogue box. If you do too tight a selection Photoshop will screw it up, it needs surrounding detail to create the fill so you need to give it plenty of elbow room. The selection I gave it was about the same size as the globe. My understanding is that generative fill in it's present form creates everything at a maximum resolution of 1024x1024. The people who know more than me seem to be using fixed size boxes at that size and then doing multiple passes with generative fill with higher resolution images. One of the things you might have received with your subscription is access to Photoshop Beta which is the test bed for Photoshop, so new features appear there and as they are perfected they then trickle into Photoshop 24 as updates. For example, the image I posted was done on Photoshop Beta version 25.0.0 bill On 2/5/2024 11:29 AM, David J Brooks wrote: Bill care to let me in on how? yes, Lightroom Classic. Photo bundle @ US$9.95/mo.. It has everything you need. I download and install only LrC because it"s all I need, but the bundle gives access to PS, Lr, and other apps should you need or want to use them. Re: OT: Lightroom naming help
I won’t claim to be an expert on this. I use LR Classic, currently at ver 13.0.1. My current images and catalog are on my computers HD, and backed up on external HDs. I keep older images on external HDs. LR (not LR Classic) is web based. You can put images onto your computer HD, but the working assumption is that they are stored in the Adobe cloud. The editing tools on LR are different and seem less useful IMHO than those in LR Classic. I think LR would be great for someone mostly using their phone as a camera. I sometimes use LR when traveling, and then transfer the images to my computer at home and import them into LR Classic. That is a complicated not very useful workflow, and so I have started either talking my computer with me when I travel, or I wait to review/edit/post any images untilI am back home. (My one computer is a 2021 MacBook Pro; when at home it connects to a 27” monitor.) My basic monthly subscription includes LR, LR Classic, Photoshop, some other Adobe stuff, and some online storage in the Adobe Cloud. I have no idea the pricing options, but back when I shifted from LR v.6, the annual cost for the bundle was about the same as I was paying each year to upgrade from 4 to 5 to 6… Stan > On Dec 8, 2023, at 10:19 AM, David J Brooks wrote: > > Hey all. Re: OT: Lightroom naming help
Yes Lightroom Classic (LrC) is what you want. Lightroom (Lr) needs a real cloud subscription (1 Tb), It also works with Lightroom Mobile. And all 3 can work together in the cloud. Lightroom Classic is the one, the rest is nice (and expensive) Toine On Fri, 8 Dec 2023 at 17:37, Henk Terhell wrote: > For desktop editing you should get a subscription for Lightroom Classic > with Photoshop. For desktop editing you should get a subscription for Lightroom Classic with Photoshop. This is the cheapest option for which get only 20 GB cloud storage. You will be pleased with all the new features in Lightroom Classic compared to Lightroom version 6. I wouldn't look any further unless you only want to work in the cloud. DId I get your atttention? a friend gifted me a Nikon Cool Pix P520 a couple of years ago (2020) He had it since 2013. I have been using it for occasional out door shooting or as a back up for photoing ebay stuff because te K-5 is too hard for me to hold up to my face anymore.. a couple of months ago I started getting a message on the screen when I turned it on " MODE DIAL IS NOT IN PROPER POSITION" I twist the dial changing settings and it goes away.. that worked for a while.. but now twisting doesnt work. What I read online made me think this was annoying serious/expensive to correct. I'm useless in the fix it yourself category when it comes to other than non-mechanical/electronic things . the camera is my back up and "takes good pictures" bottom line - anyone in this side of the pond want to fiddle with it? or can recommend someone/some place that would be able to do it without cleaning out my banking account? Were it not for some recent and anticpated expenses of a different nature I'd take it someplace ehre and get estimates but I can't be running around in this heat especially. thanks much, ann -- ann sanfedele photography https://annsan.smugmug.com https://www.cafepress.com/+ann-sanfedele+gifts https://www.lulu.com/spotlight/annsan https://www.createphotocalendars.com/Shop/annsanfedelecalendarsandbooks -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: converting PEF to DNG .. help needed
If you ever do need it, I think I have the codec you'll need for Window 7 Pro 64bit. I'm getting ready to replace this computer, but I'll keep it just in case. My video card is failing. No big deal for text & viewing images, but the one computer game I like to play keeps crashing. Due to the crazy situation with computer chips, I found I could buy a whole new computer with a faster processor, more RAM and a 8GB video card for the same price as replacing an 8GB video card to fit this computer. This computer is OLD - in the sense that "Grandfather's Axe" is old (Mother Board is at least 5 years old and I think probably closer to 10) and they don't make many video cards that will fit inside it any more ... and the ones they do make are EXPENSIVE. The three drawbacks are it only has a 1TB SSD (M.2), which is not that big a problem because I have additional hard drives - extra 4TB drives in case my server has a drive failure, it's the Linux equivalent to RAID 6, so I can rebuild the array if a drive fails and because it has dual parity it will even allow me to rebuild it if a second drive should fail while rebuilding the array. I have a 5TB array & a 10TB array. The second drawback is I can't put a DVD drive in it. I know everything is online in the cloud or stored on a media server and DVD drives are OLD TECH and obsolete, but I like them and I want one in my computer. But this has the fancy glass front so you can see the pretty colors the cooling fans make. It has the bay where the DVD drive could be installed, but there's no way to open it through the cover. The third drawback is it came pre-loaded with Windoze #@%$^&%*## 10 and *I HATE WINDOZE #@%$^&%*## 10* (I had a VERY BAD experience trying to upgrade, which is why I still have Windows 7 Pro 64bit). I am not looking forward to the fight I'm going to have to make it DO WHAT I WANT TO DO. You can teach the browser to do that by installing what is called a 'codec'. Then you don't have to do any file conversion/copying, etc. - it just works. Ricoh offer one for Windows 7. Their website says it doesn't work for the 64-bit version of Windows 7, but I'm pretty sure one of the earlier posts in this thread had a pointer to a codec that worked fine. (That's what I did back in the days when I was using Windows 7). -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: converting PEF to DNG .. help needed
Aha! If all you need are viewable JPGs you can use *Instant JPG from Raw*. All it does is extract the embedded JPG from the raw file. It will batch process - select the raw files you want the JPGs from, then right click to open the context menu, that's where you'll find the menu item for Instant JPG. See the link below - the app is freeware. https://instant-jpeg-from-raw.software.informer.com/ -p On 10/4/2021 2:39 AM, ann sanfedele wrote: Paul, John and Igor... Re: converting PEF to DNG .. help needed
Ann, I have version 12.2.0.387 Adobe DNG converter. It DOES work with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. It's not the current converter from Adobe that requires Windows10. It's the older one that's no longer available on their site. I just looked in my downloads folder and I still have the executable to install it. I can send it to you as an email attachment OFF LIST if you want me to. It's a 467,715 KB file If it won't install, I also have the unpacked files (that's where I got the v.12.2.0.387 from) and I can send those as an attachment as well. OR I can also do a Dropbox if you would prefer ... although I haven't used that in a long time & would have to figure out how to do it again. If you want to do it that way, I'll figure it out and send you the link OFF LIST. Or maybe a more computer savvy list member will be able to hook you up. It stopped, with more semi-blind clicking. I think (but do not know) that blowing up one of the faces to fill the window, or 100% (not sure which) finally made it stop. On most Mac software command-period or command-shift-period stops a process. Leave it to Adobe to ignore useful convention. Thanks, Stan and Doug! You can disable face indexing in Catalog Settings. Do the following: (Mac) Select Lightroom Classic > Catalog Settings. (Windows) Select Edit > Catalog Settings. On the Metadata tab, deselect Automatically Detect All Faces In All Photos. Re: Help! LR face detection has hijacked my computer!
I think there is something in settings to tell it whether to find all of the faces. At some point face detection completely broke on my system such that if it tries to detect faces it crashes lightroom, and if you restart lightroom it will go back to trying to detect faces and will immediately crash. Breaking out of that loop was annoyingly difficult. > On Jul 5, 2021, at 9:22 AM, Stanley Halpin > wrote: > > For my suggestion I looked at LR Help for Face Detection, found that it can > be turned on with cmd-F (“Find Similar Faces”) under the Photo menu. Re: Is it hopeless? Help needed
I lost my original Q to a swollen battery. Using super glue did not occur to me, maybe that would have worked. I did a lot of googling on ways to solve this problem and did not find any useful answers. Avoid doing anything intrusive to the battery - like drilling a hole in it and trying to set a screw or hook eye to pull it out. (one of the not-useful answers I saw while googling.) Apparently lithium batteries can burst into flames. In my case, I just bought a Q7 which proved to be a much bigger upgrade than expected. Someone posted this on a forum somewhere: For removing a stuck (AA) battery - from my camera - this worked like a charm and was least intrusive. I put the camera on it's side so the stuck battery was facing the ceiling and was COMPLETELY LEVEL. I smeared a little super glue onto the top of the stuck battery but not close to the battery's edge!!! I placed a thick metal nut on top of and in the center of the battery. The nut must be smaller than the battery. I added extra super glue into the center region of the metal nut. I let it set until the next day. Then, simply used a wrench on the nut to move it until it was free; then could simply extract the battery. -- Cheers Cotty -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to pdml-le...@pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

A last resort is two component epoxy glue. Glue something to the battery which allows you to apply force (after the glue hardens, app 24h) and pull the battery out. A swollen battery is end of life so the glue won't harm it. I found the way to save as an .ott template but that didn't work for Ann. Saving as a Word template did the trick. I'm the best. Re: help with labels
In LibreOffice Writer, I can use File -> New -> Labels and I get a dialogue box that has a dropdown menu for Brand. In there are templates for Avery letter size, including 5160. Maybe the same route works for OpenOffice? If not, I've saved a document in .odt format and can send it to you. Not sure it will still work as a template, though. I couldn't find a way to save it in that form. > On 06 January 2021 at 19:13 ann sanfedele wrote: > > > I hve open office but really don't know how to make it do what in terms > of makign labels... not labels with my name on all of them on a page, > but a master that shows > the outlines of the labels the way they are set up with an avery > template 5160... so I can type in whatever I want within the > boundaries. Re: help with labels
FWIW, if anyone else has the problem, I found a 5160 template in Open Office/LibreOffice 6.1 native ".ott" format. "Avery_5160.ott" https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29=98414 It was in the 6th response down.
