Fw: Test
-Original Message- From: Alan C Sent: 20 May, 2018 11:57 AM To: pdml@pdml.net Subject: Re: Test Brian I'm having e-mail problems. I can send using Windows Live Mail which I've always used but the e-mails just vanish. The one you replied to was send directly from Vox Telecoms Webmail, not from the normal user's @lantic. I did mostly receive the other PDML posts OK but none from Jack Davis or Ann Sanfedele (I have to access those from the Archives). I have missed a couple of Bank e-mails too. At one stage I found I could send OK if I removed or simplified the Subject line but now that does,'t work any more. I can't even send to myself. I have now set the Vox Webmail to not delete after sending or receiving via Live Mail which may throw some light on the problem. Perhaps you have some suggestions? You shouldn't need to keep them. The unpacking process before installing may leave behind a number of intermediate temporary files you don't need either. Re: OT: second test and dumb question
As Igor said, you don't need to keep them but I usually do in case I need to go back to that version if a future update doesn't work. eg. about a year ago I updated Firefox and found it wouldn't load on my PC so I reinstalled the earlier version from the saved installer. Re: OT: second test and dumb question
No. You don't need to keep them. But I typically do keep all the installer files. It was only ones or twice in the 21st century that I went back to them on the same computer. (I've went to them for a different computer, - but not for such frequently updated software as web browser and Thunderbird.) I usually save them on one of the backup drives. Re: GESO: Hasselblad vs Pentax lens "test"
Unfortunately you are correct. Sorry, this was less of an even test than I had wanted! I just went back to the original files and did a careful look. I was using Liveview as my focus aid for all three lenses. My intent was to focus on the old fallen tree behind the collected river debris, in front of the sand bar across the river. But both of the H lenses seem to have been focused somewhere mid river and the P lens was closer to my intended target. I returned the H lenses to my brother-in-law yesterday. So no chance for a slower paced more deliberate re-test. But if you have a source who would loan you an H lens or two, I would be glad to send you the H-to-645 adapter if you like. stan > On Dec 10, 2017, at 5:03 AM, Jostein <p...@alunfoto.no> wrote: > > Interesting, > How did you focus the The 150mm? You can't send a message to all the list members individually, because you don't have their email addresses - there is no "Reply All" ability. If you just "Reply", the mailer program is supposed to use the reply address specified in the "Reply-To" header. (Which, for most email lists, is set to the list email address). The problem people are complaining about is that Thunderbird has, as of the latest release, chosen to ignore the requirements of the email protocols, and when the user hits Reply is sending the reply to the original poster (using the address supplied in a different header), and only to that person - the message never gets sent to the list. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. Another test - Pixel Shift
Been done before I am sure. I had heard since forever that LR could not take advantage of pixel-shifted files from the K-3ii or K-1. But I saw a discussion recently that implied to me that LR did work. As part of my recent look at the Leica-M adapter for K mount, I shot some of the images with pixel shift turned ON. Following a recent discussion on a Facebook pentax group, I did a bit more and a comparison. 1. Pixel shift does seem to make a difference in resolution. My test was not the best. 2. Pixel shift -> files about 3.5 times the size of a “normal” K-1 DNG. 3. Lightroom does not know how to process such files. 4. Lightroom generates color artifacts when processing such images. 5. If the weather ever warms up I’ll go to the storage locker, retrieve the disc that came with the camera, and redo this using Pentax’s version of silkypiks. The link below takes you to the first of three images. Image 1: a regular K-1 DNG Image 2: a K-1 image with no changes to settings etc. except that Pixel Shift was ON - image file stored as DNG Image 3: the same image capture as in # 2, but this time I did an in-camera processing of the file to create a TIFF file. The linked images are a smallish crop of the original images. http://photos.stanhalpin.com/p566717840/h80f3d918#h80f3d918 stan -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: Lens test from the 67 days
Those tests are based upon a 35mm 6mp sensor monochrome astro sensor. I think they are suspect. How can we know focus was perfect with each one with no live view? I think the 67 lenses should do a little better here. They might not be enough for a 36mp sensor, but they should be resolving more than 6mp on FF. If you extrapolate and enlarge the area to cover 6x7 that would indicate they are resolving less than 12mp if you had a 6x7 sensor since 35mm has a 2x crop factor. Re: k-1 square crop test
I came to following observations: 1. With FF lens and K1 in 1:1 cropmode makes little sense as indicated by others. 2. With APS-C lens and K1 in 1:1 cropmode, there can be the advantage of using the whole image circle. 3. However, many lenses do not offer the whole image circle to the sensor. First, the tulip-shaped sun-hood is optimized for maximum shading. This can result in an image circle of roughly 3:2. 4. My Sigma 8-18mm has this and the hood is fixed to the lens so cannot be taken off without damage. 5. Second, My Pentax-K 135mm/2.5 even w/o lenshood projects 3:2 on the sensor, due to build in window to reduce unwanted reflections. This is a FF lens, but I expect there will be APS-C lenses with a 3:2 window too. 6. For the optical view finder, the cropmodes are only an overlay with thick border lines, with APS-C lens, this helps somewhat in judging what will be in the final image. 7. APS-C crop mode on the live view display, fills the screen with the image that will be recorded. That is better than the OVF 8. 1:1 crop mode (w APS-C lens) on live view display shows the image limited in horizontal direction by the crop mode and in vertical direction by the crop mode or by the lens, whichever is smaller. K-1 firmware 1.30 crop mode test
I tested crop mode as follows: K-1 with Sigma APS-C lens 8-16mm @ 16 mm (@ 16mm the Sigma covers FF) 3 pictures of bookshelves filled with books: FF gives 44.5 MB APS-C mode gives 22.2 MB 1:1 mode gives 45 MB So Mark Roberts suggestion is right: the camera adds just a cropping specification to the raw file. I expect, when shooting JPG there will be a proportional file size reduction comparing 1:1 to FF -- Greetz, Jos -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I'm bummed that it didn't tell me how many and which ones I missed. There were two words there, one which I was supposed to match, and one that was one of the choices, that I had no idea about: avulse and fugacious. In retrospect I should have been able to parse the root of "fugue" out of fugacious. I think that the quiz should also take the time you take to answer into account. I am a lot more fugacious answering the words I know, than the ones I need to figure out by parsing their roots. 30150 I think mine was 29,000 and something. Something like 0.12% IIRC.
