Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Itunes Update Time Problem
Same deal here. I think it has to do with the ItunesUpdate.pl using some form of GMT instead of localtime, but I'm not sure where this should be changed in the script. Hard to test since I'd have to update both the txt file and the test copy of my iTunes library each time. vain4 wrote: > This has been going on for at least a year for me, maybe longer. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem
Hi netchord I am not sure why this is not working for you. It should work if you install the plugin folder in either location. Is it possible you have it installed in both places? Have you copied the complete folder and all of its sub-folders? Is the iTunesUpdate folder showing up in either the DownloadedPlugins or InstalledPlugins folders within your Library/Caches folder? There is a bug in the new version of the plugin (2.9.0) that is stopping the normal repository download method (from the plugins tab) working properly as the system keeps thinking it needs to update to a new version and it ends up going around in circles. I think this is because the install.xml file in the iTunesUpdate folder refers to version 2.8.3 instead of 2.9.0. The installed plugin should still work though. Might be worth manually changing the version number in this file and see if that helps. Do you get a message that plugins need updating from the home page of the web interface? This would explain why it no longer shows up in the lists of available plugins. If you turn off the 'download updated plugins automatically' option then you should see iTunesUpdate show at the top of the page. Sorry I do not have any definite answers, but hope this helps. I created the latter, created a Plugins directory as well, and restarted SC. I also added iTunesUpdate from the Plugins page in the SC Plugins tab in the web interface, and upon restarting got a message that the plugin failed to load. i then tried installing the iTunesUpdate folder in the directory where all the other plugins appear to be located (see my prior post): Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/contents/server/Slim/Plugin/ restarted SC, and voilá, the plugin loaded, and i was able to adjust settings, and check the box for direct update. however, it does not (appear) to work, as play counts in iTunes are not updated. iTunesUpdate does appear as a menu item in the Extras menu of the SC web interface, but nothing shows as playing. i tried uninstalling the plugin in the web interface tab, but after unchaecking the plugin, applying the change, and restarting. it's still there. i have not yet removed the directory manually, but will try that in a bit. sounds like it may be in the wrong place, or it's in the right place, but perhaps there are lines of code that reference the directory structure listed in the instructions? -- 4 TB Drobo--FW 800--mac mini--Ethernet Transporter-- Wireworld Eclipse 6 coax--Meridian G61 G61-- Nordost Red Dawn--Primare 30.3 Primare--Ocos--Vienna Acoustics Beethoven/Maestro netchord's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21002 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91737 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update plugin and LMS 7.7.1 problem
Hi netchord Just a few (hopefully helpful) comments on your installation approach: - Installing in the directory /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/contents/server/Slim/Plugin/ as you suggest will work, but you will need to reinstall the plugin if you update to a new version of the server software as this directory will be overwritten by the installation of the new version. (As an aside, because you are using Mountain Lion, it would be worthwhile updating to the beta of 7.7.3 or 7.8 because this will stop your server going to sleep while it is playing music/radio.) - Better to use the ~user/Library/Application Support/Squeezebox/Plugins as the install instructions suggest... The trick is that you do have a Library folder in your User folder - it is just hidden by the operating system (this was a new 'feature' introduced in Mac OS X 10.7 and later). To reveal your ~user/Library folder, the easiest way is in Finder, click on Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen and then hold down the alt/option key. As if by magic, your Library folder will appear in the menu, click on this and you can then navigate to the folder you need. You will find all sorts of interesting stuff in the ~user/Library folder, but best not to mess with it or your funny things can happen to your system - maybe this is why Apple felt the need to hide it? - If you install the plugin from the usual plugin tab it will appear in ~user/Library/Caches/Squeezebox/InstalledPlugins/Plugins (your other third party installed plugins should be here already if you have installed any). Manually installing the iTunesUpdate folder to this folder should work as well. Not sure why installing from the plugin tab said failed to load for you - may be that you restarted before it had downloaded from the repository? (When the plugin is downloaded, but before it has been installed by restarting the server it should appear in ~user/Library/Caches/Squeezebox/DownloadedPlugins.) Hope this helps. As I started this thread I should report that I still have not found a way to make iTunes Update work with versions of LMS after 7.5.6. I have now taken the decision to update LMS anyway and stop using iTunes Update. I now use Trackstat/Custom Scan to export a text log file and then use an AppleScript to update iTunes. Although this is less convenient in some ways, it does have the advantage that iTunes does not have to be running all the time on my server which seems to help things run more smoothly. Play counts, ratings and last played dates can be updated in this way, but track skipped information cannot as Trackstat does not record these. Credit for the original AppleScript should go to another poster on these forums... I will post a link when I track it down again myself. Hi, Version 2.8.3 of iTunes Update is working fine for me on OS X 10.5.8 and with iTunes 7.7.1 (I don't use any of the newer iTunes features on my PPC mini so haven't updated it for years). I didn't need to make any changes to it when upgrading from 7.6.* to LMS 7.7.* and so have left it alone. I got it working.by getting an Apple TV and ditching the squeezebox. No more trying to get my system working, I'm actually spending time listening to music the way I want too! $99 and I already have an iPad so I can control iTunes remotely and send it to the ATV. I have a system that does what I want in about 0.01% of the time I've spent trying to get squeezewhatever to work. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update
I actually had a problem track myself at the weekend so maybe this might be relevant; I had a track with no album set in iTunes, but the mp3 itself contained ID3v1.1 tags which had an album name. The album was then showing up in SlimServer and breaking the plugin's search of iTunes. To fix the problem I had to force iTunes to overwrite the v1.1 tags - changing any other version had no effect! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update
That does imply some sort of discrepancy between the MP3 tags that SlimServer is reading and the meta-data that iTunes is using. Do you see anything obviously wrong when you look the Get Info screens in iTunes? Maybe different types of apostrophe? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update
James, Thanks. Your plugin makes squeezebox work for me. When I put in the whole string The Beach Boys Made In U.S.A. Surfin' USA into iTunes search, I get nothing. All the other songs from that same album behave the same way, ie do not show as played after playing. Do I need to change the tags on them? As I said above, all the songs are from an iTunes generated playlist and most stuff imported with iTunes(including this one via v4.1). Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes Update
The first track has accented characters so I'm not really surprised it wasn't found. But the 2nd looks pretty simple - what happens if you type The Beach Boys Made In U.S.A. Surfin' USA Into the search box in iTunes itself? That's essentially what the plugin does to find the tracks... I'm not sure if iTunes Update has its own user interface on the Controller but if you install TrackStat you should get a Rating menu in the track details and if you change a rating through this menu iTunes Update should pick it up and change the rating in iTunes. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ITunes Update doesn't update the last track
I am seeing this too, so can confirm it is also a bug on 7.3.3 on Mac OS X. I have also noticed a few occasions when iTunes Update seems to have stopped updating completely. Not sure I can track down when this happens, but restarting SC brings it back to life again. Incidentally, are there any plans to add iTunes Update to the new Extension Download repository? I still have this installed in the good old fashioned Plugin directory. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] itunes update not updating itunes
For reasons that probably make a good deal of sense, 'Direct Update' is not a default. Once I read far enough through the code, I found that, changed it, and now iTunes is updating and I'm happy again. I'm having a similar but worse problem - for some reason, also with Sigur Ros, I am losing the files. Used to have 'em, but they're gone now. The latest two have persevered, but the older ones (including () and the Aegatis Byrgin one) are just gone. Also special character related: Yael Naim, same issue - lost the first song I had when I added the second. When I say lost: the files are no longer in the music folder. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Itunes Update
I'm still on iTunes 7.1 or something, so I don't know if it's going to work. Are you getting any interesting errors in the server log file? Anyone else upgraded? If you're on Windows, quite frequently the installation messes up registering the iTunes COM interface with Windows, which stops the plugin from working. Reinstallation usually fixes that. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Itunes Update
If it is of any help, iTunes Update is still working fine for me with iTunes 8 on Mac OS X 10.5.4 and SC 7.2. iTunes 8 seems to have changed the interface, a lot of the preference settings and introduced some new library files. However, as far as I can see at the moment, it still seems to work OK with SC 7.2. It won't work if you like to display the rating from iTunes though, because those stars only displays the rating in the SqueezeCenter (TrackStat) database. After having read http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Setup_support_for_ratings, and in particular: * Note that only iTunes on Windows is fully supported by the TrackStat integration. It won't work if you like to display the rating from iTunes though, because those stars only displays the rating in the SqueezeCenter (TrackStat) database. JAMES To make iTunes visible in iPeng you will need to add a call to: Code: Slim::Web::Pages-addPageLinks(pluginsiPeng, {'PLUGIN_ITUNES_UPDATER' = plugins/iTunesUpdate/index.html }); iPeng doesn't add all the page links registered under plugins because it knows most looks like a mess in the iPeng skin, so instead each plugin developer needs to add their plugin also to pluginsiPeng when they have fixed the layout and make sure it really works in iPeng. However, I do think you might want to do some iPeng skin specific layout adjustments, because it doesn't look very nice in iPeng after I've added the above row. The file '\HTML/iPeng/plugins/TrackStat/nowplaying.html\' (http://erlandplugins.googlecode.com/svn/TrackStat/trunk/src/HTML/iPeng/plugins/TrackStat/nowplaying.html) in the TrackStat plugin might give you some ideas as it displays similar things as the iTunes Update plugin.
