Hi,

I have tested your database and encountered the same problem.
I think it is because there are no geometry information in your
database. So far it is only a sqlite database, not a spatialite one.

I have created a new test sqlite database with a point layer, but DB
Manager would not let me copy your geometryless table to my database.

So I opened your database with qspatialite, and that plugin added tables
geom_cols_ref_sys, geometry_columns and spatial_ref_sys to it. Now I
could drag and drop table "test" from your database to mine using DB
Manager. And adding that table to the canvas by checking geometryless
tables, gives the correct table view with ID and text field.

I think the problem will not accur if you create a sqlite database
within qgis, and start with a geometry layer.

Yes, I understood that. But you can store those simple tables in your
sqlite database as well, together with the vector layers. The database
can hold as much tables as you want, having only text or vectors. And
Add sqlite database table will show all fields.

I think that the missing
ID field should be considered a bug, because we should be able to
manage external data as they are, without filters.

You can open a ticket for it. Maybe the programmer thought it was a good
idea to hide the id. What will happen if you edit the id field, and the
value is not unique anymore? Or add another object?

Nice feature but I think it is introducing an error when attempting to open

called GPS essentials. The qgis error states *.kml is not a valid or
recognized data source.

ogrinfo returns

What kind of data is stored in the kml?
We recently had an issue that it may not contain points *and* lines

Perhaps you can convert it to GPX format with gpsbabel. The gpx importer

Current Qgis has the following string for EPSG:31466, which is

+towgs84=582,105,414,1.04,0.35,-3.08,8.3 +units=m +no_defs

This was changed some time ago. Perhaps this is already sufficent for

The +towgs84 values vary across Germany. Thats what beta2007 is for. But
within one state a constant value should be sufficent in most cases.

The phantom layer is named: "plan01_2012" and references to:
"./Planimetrie/2012/plan01_2012.tif" as you can see in lines 27 and following.
Opening the project with QGIS no error is showed for the missing reference, and
no layer is shown in the Layers pane.

After I put a tif file in the place to be, I could reproduce the error

the following extra lines:

checked="Qt::Checked" name="plan01_2012" showFeatureCount="0">

layerid="plan01_201220120829235552845" visible="1"/>

Inserting this to your file after ,
the project opens normally. Maybe a bug concerning opening older version
projects.

Checking better I can find a reference of this layer in the "Identifiable layer"
tab of Project properties.
Saving project as will not purge the file.

If you dont want the layer to be in the project anymore:
Move the project file to another location, or rename/move the unwanted
tif or the layers folder.
Opening the project will give you the bad layers handling dialogue.
Close that without actions, and save the project. That should remove the
unwanted layer from the project.

As you can see in the same file other traces of older files are still present in
the xml, for instance near lines126 and following: a list of vector layer with
snapping turned on. This does not produce any error, but getting them removed
when layer is removed is probably cleaner.

The gdalwarp command does not know anything about the CRS you set inside

legal or "political" constraints preventing such a support so far.

As far as i understand ESRI personal geodatabases are just some pimped

Yes, that's true. Spatial index will not be possible on MDBs (as well as
on spataialite). But MS Access is widely spread, so a connection would
be highly appreciated. And MDBs are easily portable (again, as well as

I thought of "portable" in the sense of taking a database from one

I'm not sure I understood your comment, but spatial indexing is definitely
supported in Spatialite using the R*Tree structure.

I referred to the spatialite 2.1 manual still first in Google search.

I guess its not fully supported by the stable Qgis 1.8.0.
In DB Manager, I have an entry Spatial Index, but get an error
"no such module: VirtualSpatialIndex". Qspatialite throws an error for
the same reason, and a message "No spatial index defined".

I read that spatialitegui might solve the problem, but I want to work
inside Qgis. So still nothing for "normal" people ;-)

Using Master I get other errors about missing pyspatialite.

I have a feeling that QSpatialite is somewhat behind. I'm using spatialite 3.0

making use of spatial indexes.

The problem is that, unlike PostGIS, spatial indexes are not used automatically.
After you create a spatial index on a table, you must then construct your query
to make use of it. This is certainly non-intuitive for "normal people".

I would surely use those spatial index features if they are fully
incorporated in Qgis. In the meantime, I don't wont to spoil my existing
databases with external programs. For large datasets, I still can export
to my Openstreetmap Postgis database, which works fine.

Ok, but the topic here is not about spatialite or Postgis databases, but
MS Access ones.

- QGis selection -> free to distribute selection, about 800 gradients
- Full cpt-city selection ->  all gradients,(about 6000)

Next you select the installation folder - if you are the only user,
you can select your profile folder $HOME/.qgis

Then you click Update, package is downloaded and installed.

Go to the style manager->Color ramps and add a new ramp "cpt-city",
you can browse by selection of by author.

Every 7 days the plugin looks for updates, and you can manually check

Once installed you will find designer.exe in C:\Osgeo4w\bin.

Maybe only related to the OSGeo4W package.

I give a yes to downgrading.

But with my big surprise it say me that is not possible to install

I ran into the same problems. But after restarting Qgis worked, and had

If you don't need the broken core sextante, you can delete the folder from

So I tried to uninstall sextante, re-install it, and move directories (from
/usr/share/qgis/python/plugins and from /.qgis) and replace them.
What now happens is that, running qgis I have this error:

The Plugin Installer has detected an obsolete plugin which masks a newer
version shipped with this QGIS version. This is likely due to files
associated with a previous installation of QGIS. Please use the Plugin
Installer to remove that older plugin in order to unmask the newer version

Sextante and qgis work without problems, but I don't understand I I should
do something to solve this little problem.

Same here. You now have both versions (core and external plugin). I
guess you have re-installed 1.07, not 1.08.

Removing the plugin from core leaves you with the working 1.0.7 in .qgis
and no annoying message at start.
The other way won't work: Removing the external plugin gives you the
error message reported before.

Off course, removing both you have peace, but no Sextante ;-)

I don't know about the ubuntu file structure. Maybe you have another
copy of Sextante somewhere else.

GRASS algorithms are all fully documented, since we use the original
GRASS docs. SAGA ones are not... That is clearly a huge amount of
work, probably beyond what can be achieved in the short- or mid-term,
but suggestions about this topic are welcome.

From the user side, a sophisticated algorithm is useless if he does not
know what effect the parameters have. And if the user does not find any

Best solution is not to do that. If you upload a road shapefile to OSM,
it will have no connection to existing roads in the OSM database, which
spoils routing. Same applies to rivers and coastlines.

There is a tool called shp2osm, which transforms shapefiles to OSM data.
Another possibility is to save the layer as GPX. You have to transform
polygons to lines before, because GPX does not know polygons (and OSM
also does not).

You can load that into the josm editor, and download the current data of
the same view in a seperate layer. Then you have to check your data with
the existing, add tags as necessary, deleting duplicates, and take
special care for polygons. In OSM, they are closed ways, or relations of
type "multipolygon".

Finally upload the changes.

The '+datum=hermannskogel' is hardcoded in proj:

with a three-parameter transformation:
"hermannskogel", "towgs84=653.0,-212.0,449.0"

Seven-parameter transformations are more precise, the official
parameters can be found here:

The latest build of gdal uses the 7 parameters you listed above.

If you want to change the values, look for srs.db. You can edit it with
spatialite, or just copy it from the windows installations.

Yes, field calculator does not look at the project CRS (as the
measurement tools do), but the CRS of the shapefile. Most probably
EPSG:4326.

Is there a way to calculate metres/kilometres squared. I presume I
need to change from a geographic coordinate system to a projected
coordinate system.Ideally this would be Hartebeesthoek94/L027, but i
cannot see any of the South African LO systems available to me. Any
help would be very much appreciated.

Qgis Master (1.9.0) has all Hartebeesthoek94 CRS available. For LO27, it
is EPSG:2052. For older QGIS versions, you can create a custom CRS with
the following proj string:

+proj=tmerc +lat_0=0 +lon_0=27 +k=1 +x_0=0 +y_0=0 +axis=wsu +ellps=WGS84
+towgs84=0,0,0,0,0,0,0 +units=m +no_defs

Or use the UTM projection for your part of the world.

You have to export your shapefile, and choose the custom CRS as target
CRS to get the field calculator work right. On-the-fly-projection is not
enough.

If have you loaded the Shapefile into QGIS:

Select the states you want with holding ctrl pressed,

Right-click on the layer -> Save Selection as...

And give the new Shapefile a different name.
You can add it to the project in the same step.

The .qgis file is a simple xml text file, which you can edit with everey

If you use relative paths, make sure not to move your datasources or

My ntv2 is made by two files .asc and .gsb. The .asc is an ascii file and
inside it I can see

SYSTEM_FROME40 - I think this is the From crs
SYSTEM_TWGS84 - I think this is the To crs

Well, thats actually not used. The plugin works with the binary version.

So it's intended to reproject from Rome 40 to WGS84, ok.

When I want to setup a new transformation the plugin asks for a
Transformation name, that is my preferred name, ok.
System_from should be SYSTEM_FROME40, right?
What should I use Monte Mario (Rome) 4806 or Monte Mario / Italy zone 2
(3004)?

If your data is projected (that is in meters), use 3004. 4806 is in degrees.

System_To will be WGS84 (4326).

Then,
what does it mean with Custom CRSs (CRS A and B name)? Are these only custom
names used to describe Rome40 and WGS84 in my case?

You don't have to enter anything, the plugin creates a new CRS for you.

They appear under custom
Coordinate systems, can I use whatever name I prefer? Then 10 and 11
are custom EPSG automatically generated by TT plugin?
Then there are two keys on the bottom left part of the plugin window that
are Apply CRS A -> B (direct) and Apply CRS A<- B (inverse), the first is
to reproject from Rome40 to wgs84 an the second the opposite?

I have not found any sense in those buttons yet. A bit of documentation

It should be incorporated with EPSG:28992. If not, you must have a very
old version of Qgis, or a broken installation. On Windows, try the
OSGeo4w setup, in parallel or on another computer. If the installation

Re: [Qgis-user] EPSG:27700 - OSGB 1936 / British National Grid shapefiles are incorrectly interpreted by QGIS 1.8.0 and later

2013-01-31 Thread Andre Joost
As long as *all* your project and data is in EPSG:27700, you will not
see any difference. But as soon as you add Google or openstreetmap tiles
with openlayersplugin, or data from other sources in other CRS, the
+towgs84 datum shift parameters comes into effect. The values used up to
QGIS 1.7.4 were quiet good, QGIS 1.8.0 sadly returned to some
low-accuracy parameters. For best accuracy, OS has issued a ntv2 grid file.

The .prj file by ESRI does not have any information on datum shift
values incorporated. Mainly because there are several choices to do the
transformation with different accuracy and complexity, as stated above.

Pardon my ignorance here - I'm not (nor do I wish to become) a GIS expert
with detailed knowledge of all the ins and outs of CRSs. While I can
understand that to some users it could be critical to know with ultimate
accuracy the location of any specified point as a world coordinate, what
ultimately matters to me is to be able to agree with other users that we
consistently interpret our mapping data in the same way - point A is always
in the same place on each of our systems, subject obviously to specifying
the CRS.

Using shapefiles, as I understand it, the .prj file specifies how everything
should line up. For OSGB 1936 this has historically been

PROJCS["OSGB_1936_British_National_Grid",GEOGCS["GCS_OSGB
1936",DATUM["D_OSGB_1936",SPHEROID["Airy_1830",6377563.396,299.3249646]],PRI
MEM["Greenwich",0],UNIT["Degree",0.017453292519943295]],PROJECTION["Transver

",-2],PARAMETER["scale_factor",0.9996012717],PARAMETER["false_easting",4
0],PARAMETER["false_northing",-10],UNIT["Meter",1]]

If I get layers from Ordnance Survey, my county council GIS department or
other town and parish councils, I would expect my example point A to stay in
the same place whatever GIS software I use.

I'm not sure what is being suggested here as a fix. Is it going back to the
pre 1.8.0 solution or providing an alternative CRS that the user will need
to select for all affected layers in every project? If the latter it will
potentially cause problems for those of us sharing projects between machines
using different version of QGIS.

Sorry - I'm just having trouble getting my head around this!
