I have two radios (one always wifi, one sometimes wifi) and through several versions of firmware/LMS nothing has changed regarding my WIFI performance. I run both these RADIOS synched to another player and all works well (streaming internet radio several hours a day and/or streaming my own FLAC files). As always, use something like inSSIDer or netstumbler to look at local WIFI channels being used and choose the channel with lowest number of other users, etc. Best to use 1, 6, or 11 if possible. Also do NOT hide your SSID (as this is not security and can cause issues with SB players). Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio WiFi keeps dropping.
squeezeb, I keep running in to the same issue. I have two squeezebox radios and a duet with controller. In my setup I have the duet receiver and one of the radios connected via ethernet and everything works as expected. I have the duet controller connected via wifi, and that works as expected. However, I cannot get either radio to stay connected via wifi. When I do a factory reset and go through the setup process the radio will connect (as verified on screen of the radio with the white wifi symbol, as well as from the console of my wireless infrastructure), but once I've gone through a few more setup screens the wifi symbol on the screen shows blue (and then red) and my console shows the radio no longer connected. This happens every single time without fail, and additionally, the radio becomes incredibly slow and takes as much as five seconds to respond to a single click or wheel rotation. I'm pretty sure the issues are related - the radio does not slow down when connected via ethernet. I've tried with and without wireless security, and I've tried with static IP and with DHCP. There are no duplicate IPs. Same results in all cases. Wireless setup: -SSID is broadcast -I have tried WPA and WPA2, as well as temporarily turning off all encryption -Signal strength is 100% (according to radio diagnostic screen) -Radio has an IP address (according to the radio diagnostic screen), but can't ping it from other devices -- squeezemonkey squeezemonkey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29021 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94002 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

This completely bypasses the Router's IP address allocation function, however you have to make sure they do not clash with non-static IPs. If the DHCP in the router is taking up all possible IP addresses you should set it to use something like 192.168.???.005 to 192.168.???.100 which will give you 101 - 255 for available for fixed IP addresses. I had similar problems with my two Receivers and Controller before I set fixed IP addresses and now they are rock solid. Actually I set fixed IPs for all my static network devices, that is those that will never be used outside of my network (Squeezeboxes, two static PCs, printer etc). I set reserved IP addresses for the two laptops and smartphones. -- TheLastMan Matt http://www.last.fm/user/MJL-UK *SqueezeBoxes:* SB Duet (Controller + two receivers) *Server:* Synology DS107+ (500GB) NAS running LMS 7.7.0 on SSODSmod 4.14 *Network:* Netgear DG834GT ADSL modem/router, 2 x Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 as access points *Livingroom:* Receiver into Naim 42/110 amp, BW CM2 speakers *Kitchen:* Receiver into Denon DM37 mini-system, BW 686 speakers *Study:* Linn LP12, Naim 72/Hi-cap/Headline. I am indeed using the latest firmware. I can't seem to add a static/reserved IP for any device outside the DHCP range on the router. If I use router as DHCP server and reserve a block from 198.168.1.1 to 198.168.1.100, and try to set the Radio to 198.168.1.101 or above, it kicks up a message saying the IP must fall within the range set. We're saying to use a true FIXED IP address. You do NOT set this within the router. See my earlier post. Instead, you turn OFF the DHCP server option in the router temporarily. While OFF, do a factory reset on the SB player, it will try to find an IP then fail, then you can scroll down or whatever and you'll get an option to manually add IP address. Then use: IP: 192.168.1.101 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 gateway: 192.168.1.1 dns: 192.168.1.1 then your SB player will connect with this IP address and it is NOT a function of the DHCP server of the router. I've been seeing the same erratic behaviour from my Radio for the few last weeks! Like yours, my Boom has not a single problem with my wireless network, it's just the Radio that goes mad. At some time, it even got in some boot loops, and I had to reset it to factory defaults using the +/power combo. I've tried every thing I could think of, but none cured the problem reliably. Although it's never been far away from the Radio (3 meters), I've even tried to get it closer: the Radio now reports 100% signal stength, but still has problems playing music! The only thing I could notice when it didn't work *at all* (constantly rebuffering), was that some kernel process was eating all the CPU time. Now that it's working *a bit* better (it sometimes can play 2 or 3 songs in a row without any hiccup), I'm still amazed at how much CPU time this process is eating: # uptime 18:50:12 up 12 days, 9:56, load average: 0.08, 0.24, 0.25 root 700 2 10 Mar09 ?1-06:28:54 [AR6K Async] The Radio is up for 300 hours, and this process has spent 30 hours on the CPU? Could it be location related? Have you tried using the SBR closer to the router to see if that eliminates the problem? [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio WiFi keeps dropping.
Hi folks, I have a Squeezebox Radio, and the WiFi keeps dropping (icon turns red). I have a couple of Booms connected, all sync'd, no problems with them: they keep playing music. The Radio, however, stops playing and the WiFi icon turns red. When it does, the menus/scrolling are REALLY slow. Forgive the long post, but I want to make sure I get all info across. WHEN THE WIFI ICON IS RED: Going to Advanced/Networking/Switch to mysqueezebox.com results on Connecting to... and then Problem connecting/can't connect to mysqueezebox.com. Going to Advanced/Remote Libraries shows nothing. Going to Advanced/Connect to wireless network/Finding networks finds my network/SSID, says Connecting to... results in Can't Connect. Going to Advanced/Switch Library/Retry current library results in Problem connecting. Going to Advanced/Diagnostics/Network Health/Check Network or Repair Network results in Wireless - no link. Going to Advanced/Diagnostics/Wireless Info says Not connected. Looking at my router, the Radio is no longer an attached device-- it's not showing up. A full power off (long press power button) or unplug/replug of device results in restoration of connection, and everything works fine for a random period of time before things drop. Things I've done: reserved static IP for the Radio (as I've done with all my Squeezeboxes), forwarded ports as previously suggested in another thread (3483, I think, and 9000). Moved the Radio right next to the router. Firmware updated, LMS up-to-date, reset Radio to factory settings, and even exchanged the Radio for another one. I've called Logitech tech support already, and ran through all of this. Their suggestion was that the WiFi card must be the issue, and to exchange the Radio, which I've done. Still having dropout problems. Again, none of my other Squeezeboxes are affected: the Booms, SB3 all work fine, keep on playing, and never drop out. I've tried it with all of them running/sync'd at the same time, and just with one other Boom running. Heck, I've tried it with just the Radio running. Same problem. Any magic suggestions? -- squeezeb squeezeb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41869 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94002 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio WiFi keeps dropping.
What happens if you leave ALL of your other wireless devices unplugged (not just turned off) so they cannot interfere, how does your Radio work then? By all your other wireless devices, I mean everything - computers, iPads, phones, wireless games, additional WAP's or routers, Squeezeboxes, everything except one WAP or router, and your Radio. If that doesn't work, try setting the Radio up wired for testing purposes. Still leaving everything else powered down. The goal here is to find out if the problem is truly a wireless issue, or something else. Note that if you have more than one WAP or router, you might try swapping them out too during this testing. If any of the above works, try bringing pieces online until the problem recurs. Note, that you may have to try different combinations of gear until you're able to nail down the problem source. -- eganders eganders's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=25846 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94002 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
