RE: [RCSE] Common trim mode on JR 9303
Or trim the elevator via the sub trim menu. I have a question on the 9303 regarding the common trim mode when using flight modes. In the device select, I set trim mode to common, but I see in the monitor screen that common only refers to rudder and aileron. All other trim controls stay in flight mode. Even with the trim mode on common, a trim change to elevator in cruise does NOT affect thermal or launch trim. Since my servos in my DLGs have some drift, it's not uncommon for me to change trim on the 1st flight. I want this change to go to everything (all Flight Modes). I can get elevator presets as changes to 'normal' trim by adding in mixes. I know I can make FM trim work by changing sub trim IF I notice the drift before the round, but true common trim might work better for this problem. What am I missing? Thanks, John

My body isn't sure where it is so I wake up and flip the TV on. Honestly who is walking straight towards me out of the TV is my flying buddy Ben Clerx. And I am confused because he doesn't have a chute in his hand. Apparently Our Friend Ben, is not only a World Recognized Intentional F3J Pilot, but in his spare time he is a well known UFO Hunter. Apparently Ben will do just about anything to raise those funds to go to Istanbul. So if you want to see Ben doing his other thing, he will be on the History Channels UFO Hunters tonight Wednesday. Apparently there is a side of Ben that his friends don't see where he isn't wearing that Floppy Gardening hat. If everything goes well and he gets a spin off sitcom, we may all see TV cameras at all of our large contests. Way to go Ben! LJ It's Tax Time! I've got to echo Larry's statements here; the CASL guys did a great job making this contest go. The winches were flawless all weekend (I think there were maybe 3 line breaks after over 1000 launches), with plenty of power, so props to Rick Bothel and everyone running the winches and retrievers. Paul Emmerson headed up the landing area crew that efficiently turned the landing zones around on the second day, and were always out there. You never had to wait for an official score keeper to write down you time and landing score. Impound crew were similarly efficient and as always, the unsung heroes are the guys in the score tent. Thanks to everyone on a job well done! Chico - You da man! Not bad for a PR... I'm looking forward to next year already! -l
Delays on posts from rcgroups.com (was :RE: [RCSE] Re: Challenge...)
RCSE sends posts from people directly subscribed to the list immediately to all those on the list. If you receive RCSE through a forwarder or post from a web based forum (such as rcgroups.com), those posts need to be screened by one of the moderators before it will be posted to the subscribers. This is all done to ensure that SPAM and other off-topic posts are sent to everyone on RCSE. The downside is that the moderators (Mike L and myself) have lives, and don't always get around to approving posts. When there is a delay, this is why. -l RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. I would want to get the JR whip antenna but would want to confirm that it will be compatible with six meters. Mahalo and aloha to all in the group. Al Battad - WH6VE AMA #506981 BTW, does anyone in the group also know how to setup a hotliner on the 9303 (sailplane version). RE: [RCSE] ATTN: Sharon 3.7 x-tail owners, need input
Stan, I picked up this very plane (incidentally pushed by the very same person. Edgar gets around ;-) last November. It's big, but that also means it's heavy. If you high-start is iffy for the Artemis, it's not going to be enough for the Sharon. If you go with the Sharon, either upgrade the High-start, or volunteer to take over winch maintenance. That said, the Sharon is a great flyer. First flight I set it up per factory recommendations (except the tow hook is too far forward). Launch climb was aggressive it required 0 trim adjustments. (gotta love the repeatability of molded planes) Nice balance of stability vs. showing air. I'm sure you could tweak the CG if you want more stability. -l -Original Message- From: Stan Myers [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, February 18, 2005 8:27 AM To: Soaring Digest Subject: [RCSE] ATTN: Sharon 3.7 x-tail owners, need input Had all but decided on Tempest when the water got muddy. Someone(read Edgar Soaring Junkie) suggested I consider the Sharon. So, I'm asking for input. Probably the main criteria I have is that it be able to hi-start. I do not have a winch readily available to me(and the club winch has seen better days). I am able to get 23#'s of pull out of my hi start. Which was adequate for my Artemis 5mph +, but really iffy for 1-3 mph. That aside, does it require constant attention with the sticks? I'm a Sunday Flyer and I am looking for 'relaxed' flying. I have some open class flying experience. I have a Sun 3.2m electric powered by Hacker 50 that I am able to handle, but never really got comfortable with the Artemis V tail. Any and all suggestions would be appreciate. Yes I'm the same guy who asked about the Tempest last week. Appreciate the band width. Stan RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. The 2M Whisper is probably ideal based on your parameters. But first, let's talk about the Opus. The Opus is hot little slope racer, designed for speed and heavy wing loading. It has an RG-14 airfoil, and really does not like to slermal (slope/thermal=light air). My point is this, if you want a lead sled for slope racing or fun flying, the Opus is a good choice. But that is NOT what you described (see below). The Whisper is based on the very popular Blade 2M (clocked at 202mph recently), but has a lighter lay-up, two piece wings (much easier to transport) and a thermal airfoil. It's fully molded, and easy to assemble. Currently priced at $349 and like all of our products, it's in stock. You might also consider the Triangle for really light sloping conditions. [RCSE] Administrivia - List change warning
Folks, In an effort to try and stop the [EMAIL PROTECTED] replies, I am going to take some action to try to identify the culprit e-mail address. The address that is causing the mischief is subscribed in immediate mode rather than digest. What I am going to do is take a group of subscribers that are subscribed in immediate mode and change them over to digest mode. Following this, I will wait and collect the results. Either the abuse postings will continue, in which case those e-mail addresses were not causing the problem and I can go on to the next group. When I get the right address, the hotmail replies will be sent to sender (now [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of the individual poster). Since they will not come from a subscribed address, they will end up in the moderation queue. Once I have identified the group of e-mail addresses, I can do a binary search and find the culprit. Once a group of email addresses is exonerated, I will set the delivery mode back to immediate. When your e-mail address gets changed to digest mode, please feel free to change it back by sending a plain-text message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word subscribe as the only word on the first line of the message. You will have to confirm your e-mail address, just like the first time you signed up for the list. If you are actively changing your address then you are not the problem. RE: [RCSE] Why does dive CG test work?
Richard, It's all about the trim. When flying a nose heavy plane at regular thermal cruise speed, you have to add up trim to get it to fly straight and level. The up trim setting is causing an aerodynamic force on the tail is pushing down to compensate for the extra nose weight. The amount of aerodynamic down force required to stay level is constant for a given amount of nose weight. The amount of aerodynamic force created by a flying surface varies with the speed of the airplane. As it goes faster it is more effective (better Reynolds numbers). So what you start with is a nose heavy plane that is trimmed for level flight at cruise speed. The tail forces balance the nose heaviness of the model. Now increase the speed, and what happens? The nose heaviness remains constant, but the downforce on the tail increases, causing the model to pitch up. The inverse is true on a tail heavy model. To trim for straight and level at cruise speed, the tail requires down trim (an upward force on the tail to compensate for the lack of weight in the nose). Increase the speed, and the upforce on the tail increases, causing the model to pitch down. That's a tuck. -l -Original Message- From: invicta421 [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2003 12:51 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [RCSE] Why does dive CG test work? I have been pondering this question for the last few weeks, but haven't satified myself with an explaination yet. Most aerodynamics seem to make intutive sense to me, but this doesn't. The test I am speaking of is when you put the sailplane into a 45 degree dive and see if it pulls up, flys neutral or tucks under. A page on how to do this can be found here: http://www.polecataero.com/articles/cg_art.shtml But this page doesn't explain why... to me it seems that a nose heavy glider should tuck not rise when the CG is in front of the average lift on the wing. RE: [RCSE] Re: LSF Request..reply
Not quite true. SC squared contests are divided into 3 classes (master, expert sportsman), so you have to use the overall results, not the class results for LSF. Yup, that means a 1st, 2nd or third *overall* if you are going the place route. (however a top 10 finish in a single contest will get you most, if not all, the contest points you need) -l -Original Message- From: Jack Strother [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, August 29, 2002 8:24 AM To: Steve Giron Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [RCSE] Re: LSF Request..reply Steve, Sure they wood, providing that they meet the entrant requirements as determined on the voucher. Do you folks have EVEN THE FOGGIEST IDEA of what a CHILLING effect this group's incessant obsession with public crucifixions of certain suppliers can have on some of us other suppliers? snip Now I just happen to have some killer ideas for some new HLG's, 2-meters, and a truly astonishing open class model sitting here in my computer. However, I also have some really exciting electrics, some giant scale models, and some other secret projects I don't even want to breathe a word about yet. There are undoubtedly other folks out there who also have ideas for what they believe will be wonderful new R/C soaring-related products. Given the relatively awful profit potential of R/C sailplanes in even the best of times (anyone foolish enough to believe otherwise should see my tax returns for the last decade), and add to that (a last straw might be a good characterization) the frankly shabby treatment of vendors that we've all observed here among the R/C soaring community lately (as reflected on this list), if you were in our shoes, just exactly where would you invest your limited resources? snip This thread should have died WEEKS ago. It's too bad that USN WW2 planes did not have spinners. I'd love to do a Bearcat, but that plane is just too short and stubby. I suppose I could build a Rare Bear, since it's got the big spinner, but those clipped wings might present a problem for a glider :) Blaine Zaid wrote: I agree very much with Bill Swingle.
