Thank you for reporting this. I have looked at the points you raised. The issue does not stem from any changes in LMS, the problem is that the feed itself is malformed. In particular, the publisher has included malformed image URLs throughout the feed. The search listing is sourced from Apple. As you have seen, that does show a correct image. But that image URL is provided by Apple, and is not malformed. You can see for yourself if you pass the feed into the W3C feed validator at https://validator.w3.org/feed/. Looking down the full feed listing, it is apparent that all image URL's contained in the feed are malformed in the same way. Hi, since the latest git changes i am experiencing some problems with podcasts. Podcast Provider is the to: Apple/iTunes When i click on Podcasts -> Search feeds and search for "Gabriel Ananda" for example the Soulful Techno Series is displayed with a cover. After that i click on Soulful Techno to display the podcasts, then they are listed but no covers where displayed. Before the latest git changes that was working and covers were displayed. Still testing this. The issue seems to be limited to this feed: https://www.relay.fm/mpu/feed The cause might be that this feed has 570+ episodes (and counting). Resuming an episode does work from the Recently Played menu though. All actions on the SB Radio b.t.w. Seems a bit strange to me that this behaviour is caused by the number of items in the feed, but I haven't looked at the code yet. BTW this test was a receiver with a controller as the UI. *I had a resume failure this morning* and have attached the log for today. I had paused it about 3PM EST yesterday, and tried to resume it this morning 7AM. When it failed it seemed to want to resume, and there might of been the "getting stream info" message (not 100% sure) but when it failed I got the full screen black block message "problem - could not connect to server ". Then when I hit pause again (to retry resume), it started from the beginning. This is the failure case I have seen, and it does seem time dependent if I use pause/resume, but, using "play from previous position" does not seem to fail this way (to the best of my recall) Like I said Philippe, it's not a big deal to me, especially now that I know what it is and how to recover. As seen in the attached log, the Networking requests return 200 OK, while the Player requests return 403 Forbidden. The reason is the way Player builds it's requests, which is slightly different than Networking. 'Player adds a port to the Host header if it is anything What kind of player are you using? I must assume it's not a SB, as that wouldn't support https. Would forcing proxied streaming in LMS work? Now, the reason this returns 403 Forbidden may only be specific to my case. However, I think it would be best practice for LMS to create requests as similar as possible between these two components. Therefore I think 'Player' (https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/blob/public/8.1/Slim/Player/Protocols/HTTP.pm) should be modified to resemble 'Networking' (https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/blob/public/8.1/Slim/Networking/Async/HTTP.pm) in the way the Host header is built. I may try to create a PR for this issue. It probably would have been more appropriate to post this thread on github, but thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. I wonder if the redirect from Amazon has predicted what certain header values will be and then used them to generate the X-Amz-SignedHeaders field ... and then when what comes back for certain header fields does not match so it fails. I say this because the RFC has a piece that says: Code: If the target URI includes an authority component, then a client MUST send a field-value for Host that is identical to that authority component, excluding any userinfo subcomponent and its "@" delimiter (Section 2.7.1). If the authority component is missing or undefined for the target URI, then a client MUST send a Host header field with an empty field-value. RFC7230 Section 5.4 https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7230#section-5.4 where "authority" is the Code: [username:password@]hostname[:port] part In this special case the remote host knows what the target should be and that it did not put :443 in it so it could, theoretically at least, check that it is not there when it comes back in the HOST header (because it had built a checksum/hash of what it expected in certain fields). If that is what is happening always removing the port from that header field when it is the default for that protocol will work in this particular case but, if the theory is right, could fail in another if the remote end had specifically used https AND included the port number in the redirect. I might well be over-thinking this ... but at least once the simple fix is in place, if other users start reporting connections failing that fail until this change is rolled back then this might be the reason. Ok I am pretty sure I found the issue. Debugging both the Networking and Player components of LMS was the key. As seen in the attached log, the Networking requests return 200 OK, while the Player requests return 403 Forbidden. The reason is the way Player builds it's requests, which is slightly different than Networking. 'Player adds a port to the Host header if it is anything other than port 80' (https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/blob/public/8.1/Slim/Player/Protocols/HTTP.pm#L702). But 'Neworking only adds a port to the Host header if it is not default to the specific protocol (http, https)' (https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/blob/public/8.1/Slim/Networking/Async/HTTP.pm#L250). And this behavior can be seen in the log: no port on the Host header in Networking requests; port 443 added to the Host header on the Player requests. (Networking also adds additional Cookie headers, but that is beyond the current issue). Now, the reason this returns 403 Forbidden may only be specific to my case. However, I think it would be best practice for LMS to create requests as similar as possible between these two components. One thing I discovered while troubleshooting with curl is that the request will be successful in 2 situations: 1) no Host header specified, and 2) a Host header set to , not :443. So having the port in the Host header is problematic. Hmm... I do not have control of the service, I am only given a URL. In this case, it looks like this particular podcast host uses 'Supercast' (https://www.supercast.com) as the provider. And Supercast uses AWS. You call these "private" feeds. Does that mean you have control over the server side? You seem to be using AWS to host the service. It's super easy to cause these kinds of problems eg. with AWS' WAF (web application firewall) you'd put in front of your service to protect it from "abuse". Difficulties with getting into the "resume play" submenu may arise from the handling of very long podcast listings (>200 items). This impacts SqueezePlay, but not, as I recall it, Material Skin, because the latter limits the length of a listing it will fetch to, I think, 200 items. Or did. I have attached a patch to LMS that seems to have been successful locally in handling the "long listings" issue. I am not going to try to explain it here, it is explained as best I can in the notes to the patch. It required careful scrutiny and understanding of how LMS/Squeezeplay sees things to figure out what was going on. I remark that your Mac Power Users podcast certainly falls into this category. Try adding the "Reliable" plugin. If that does not resolve it then you will have to increase logging levels and check the server.log file. Given that it is a https connection then the problem could be an old SSL library (or even too new) - see Settings/Information in LMS and post back with info about your LMS version of SSL library. Hello, I'm having trouble playing private podcast feeds. I have a mix of both public and private feeds, and can successfully add both kinds. Public feeds play fine, but the private feeds do not play at all. It shows all the correct information and length of the episodes, but fails to start playing. I can play these feeds in other apps and in the browser, just not in LMS. If it doesn't, I can go back out and the timestamped "last position" is still there. Sometimes that works, but if it doesn't, I noted the time stamp and ffwd to that spot. Like I said, it seems like it tries to resume, but fails, and defaults to the beginning. On the controller screen I can see it load...reload, and either the progress bar/time is where I left off or at 0. But, I don't have the OP's problem and mine is very livable. Don't go down a rabbit hole based on my experience unless I do some more testing and give you a way to recreate what I see. I've upgraded to 8.1.1. And the issue persists. That's not a big surprise, as there haven't been any changes on the Podcast plugin between 8.1.0 and 8.1.1. In short the issue is that I can't play a podcast episode if it has been played before. If I try to play such an episode on the SB Radio the track/sound that has been previously playing will start, instead of the selected podcast episode. A workaround is to use the new(?) "Recently played" menu item. I am not seeing it here, but I don't long press the radio knob, I can try that... -I was able to search for, find and load appstories through material. On both the material UI and the radio UI, I was able to play a bit of episode 195, then switch to 200, which played and identified fine, then back to 195. I had a problem playing it from the standard UI (my apps-> could not connect to mysqueezebox.com) which I'll need to dig into. But, when I had an episode in the queue/now playing, either paused or stopped, when I selected an episode that I had played before (195 in above example), it gave me the expected option to play from last position, or the beginning. When I selected to play from the beginning, it gave the option to play, play next, add to end. I am wondering if this might be related to your problem (which I don't fully understand what exactly you are seeing) - what if when you go to play the new podcast, it somehow automatically goes through the play from beginning->add to end path, which would cause the previous episode to remain in the queue and play when resumed? In the WebUI (default webinterface) you don't get a play button overlay when the podcast has been played before and can only ' drilldown' on the icon to get to the menu with "Play from the last position" and "Play from the beginning". While for 'fresh' podcasts there's a play button on the podcast icon. Not to blame you (not at all!) - I actually really like and value the "last position" option introduced in the latest version of the podcast plugin -, but it really seems this behaviour is caused by the latest changes to the podcast plugin. Thanks for the help. Based on your advise I installed the Reliable plugin. Unfortunately that didn't fix the issues. The problem is that the behaviour is very inconsistent. However, I'd say it fails in some way 99% of the time. A couple of podcasts that show this behaviour: https://www.relay.fm/mpu/feed https://appstories.net/episodes/feed/ Usually the problem occurs when selecting the latest episode (the one at the top of the list). Sometimes it doesn't play at all when clicking the Play or "Enter" knob (enter being the big dial). Sometimes something starts playing, but not the correct (selected) episode. I am running LMS on a pCP, version 8.1, and I normally don't listen to podcasts on a radio (I listen on Touch and Receivers), but have one (same firmware as you), so I tested it. It plays podcasts fine. Two things (I have no idea if they are related) - I have installed the radio/LMS 8 patch, and, I use Philippe's "Reliable" Plugin. Regardless of if it helps solve your problem, I find that Reliable is essential for podcast listening, as before installing it, I never made it through a long podcast without failure, and reliable fixed that. Not sure if it's related to what is mentioned at the top of this thread, but since I upgraded from 7.9.4 to 8.1.0 (dockerized, everything fresh) I encountered some strange behaviour with podcasts on my SB Radio. Basically I can't play podcasts anymore. What happens is that if I select an episode and press Play, the last selection plays. That last selection can be another podcast episode, an album track or an alarm sound. So everything but the podcast that I want to listen to. ;-) Everything works fine - i.e. as expected and as before - with Squeezelite. But not so on the Radio. Any idea what could be wrong? I've submitted a few PR to LMS 8.0 for podcasts to improve the "last position" feature and to add a "recently played" item at the bottom of the podcasts list. They are now part of the 8.0 nightly. Funny enough, the capability to track podcast progress is a very complicated one. I've just realized that when you enable direct streaming (or don't use my "reliable" plugin which forces proxied streaming), then tracking does not work. I've been scratching my head a lot to find a solution to that silly problem, but can't find any. So be aware that tracking requires proxied streaming as of today. Thanks. Hard to say. For me and my acquaintances, podcast listening has never been greater and we are constantly finding new podcasts to listen to (and new podcasts are constantly coming out). My wife has practically stopped watching TV so she can keep up with her podcasts. LMS is a different story. The underlying product has long been discontinued so we're lucky that they allow one developer, Michael, to occasionally work on LMS to keep things working. He has made spotify work and done some work to make podcasts play that had quit playing. Haven't used android, but the free podcast app on my iphone works perfectly. It consolidates 100s of podcast shows, automatically downloads new shows, deletes listened to shows, saves one's place in a show if not finished so you can start where you left off. Images would greatly enhance the user experience. Hi I made the podcast plugin work today, yeah! However I have a couple of questions: Is it possible to rearrange the order of the streams I have subscribed to? Can the podcast logo aka album cover somehow be displayed in this list? It would be nice to have in the overview whereas most subscriptions show the same cover for every episode and hence are unnecessary. Is there a method to display the read/unread-status? And also a method to save the actual position? Wow arthurc - you have been busy! I've not had much time to look into it on my end, but I have noticed that if I listen to the Twit live stream, it plays for hours w/o issue. However, when I load up a pre-recorded show, it's back to the 10 minute reset. Interestingly, the problem seems to have gone away. I was able to listen for a couple hours this morning without a glitch. Yesterday afternoon after flashing my router, I did retry and had the problem again. However, I was still fiddling around and at one point my router would no longer get a DHCP address request from the cable internet provider. I pinged their customer service but hold times were too long and I gave up waiting after 30 minutes. However, later in the evening, the Internet was restored. I wonder if something on the provider side was rebooted and contributed both to the DHCP issue *and* the streaming glitch. Dunno. Will see if it holds together. Ikve got the troublesome podcasts on a cron job on my linus box being pulled down nightly using a program called greg in the interim. Annoying but functional. Hope this gets rseolved soon. I used to have issues with Coverville randomly bailing partway through. I finally just created a Temp directory on my music drive and started downloading podcasts to it, which means that I'm just playing a local file when I listen. I delete the file when I'm done with it. Reflashed the router with Tomato. Same problem. Well that was a quick experiment. I installed yet another server on a MacOS platform (server version 7.7.6). I used my ExpressVPN client to have it pop out in San Francisco (opposite coast from me). Problem again happens. I'm not zeroing in on my home network as the culprit. I use Netgear R7000 routers with the latest software. This *has* changed of late due to various security issues. Perhaps they fat-fingered something. Okay, so I installed the server software on my Synology NAS. It's a different version from the one I was running on my Ubuntu server. NAS version is 7.7.6 while Ubuntu 7.9.2 153359127. Problem was reproduced. I'm now eliminating the server as the root cause for the time being as I'm sure I've been running version between these two before with no issues. Another idea I have is to install the server on a computer connected to a VPN proxy so that I can see if the geographic region we're streaming from makes a difference. I notice this mostly on the TWiT network. I wonder if their CDN (I think they use CacheFly) is the root. Following up with progress: - changed to static addresses for all players (server already was). No difference. - explicitly set proxy streaming. I normally sync more than one player so this was already happening but I tried anyway. No help. Next plans: - install a clean server instance on a different platform to eliminiate it having something to do with my Linux-based server. - reflash my router to use Tomato instead of the Netgear default image to see if its related to it. It has been upgraded a few times of late due to security issues. Hi, Just want to say that I have recently noticed the same thing. I've narrowed it down to podcasts from Twit, and no matter at what point in the podcast that I start at, 10 minutes later exactly, it will restart. If left alone, it will repeat that until stopped. Other non-Twit podcasts play fine. Why this has recently started, I'm not sure. I've listened to Twit podcasts for years without issue on my SBR's. My LMS hasn't been touched in a while. I can listen to the Twit podcasts fine on other non-LMS related devices. Is it something on the Twit side of things that has changed but now causes LMS issues? No clue. But I just wanted to chime in to let you know, you're not alone. Thanks for the follow-up. I will give that a whirl. Of late, I've been getting podcasts from the relay network doing the same thing. This is good as at least it's more consistent behavior. The worst part of this is that my system has not changed at all for many years (barring underlying Linux server updates). Syncing and wifi and dl speed from isp are popular culprits. So using one unsynced player on wired conection is a start. The 4023 podcast is 2.2Mbytes and the 4021 is 4.7Mbytes - that is a lot of text to dopwnload (4021 on a 10Mbs link will take about 6 secs just to download) and then LMS will have to parse and process the list - that takes time and memory. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Podcast list loads very slowly
I'm running LMS 7.9.1 on a RPi2 running raspbian (max2play). I've entered podcasts directly into LMS and am not using mysb.com. It takes very long time to navigate the podcasts. It can take a minute to get the list of individual podcasts and then another minute to actually play the file. Is this common? is the RPi2 too slow?
