Hello to the List, I have a Win 7 64 bit system, running Win eyes 8.4. Almost every time I use this system, some time during the usage, I loose Speech.this happens mostly when I am using I.E. 11 and attempting to read a web site. However, the system can loose speech, or Lock up and any time, it doesn't always happen when surfing the web. I have considered upgrading to Win Eyes 9.1, but am still going to wait for a 9.2. I don't want to trade fixes for one problem, and get some new ones. I have done everything I can think of to make this system as clean as possible, trying to not have software conflicts. I thought I would download and use one of those programs that update all Drivers found on the system. There are several of these kinds of programs, and some are probably better than others. Have any of you used one of these programs, and was it read well by Window eyes? If you had good results, and was not over whelmed with Pop Ups and other odd things happening after using such a program, can any of you recommend what worked for you? Re: CapEnhance 1.2 improvements
Great work Rod! Warm Regards, Brendon Donohue On 17 Apr 2015, at 1:52 am, Rod Hutton via Talk talk@lists.window-eyes.com wrote: Hi everyone, I'm writing to let you all know about the improvements included in the newest release of CapEnhance. Also, just in case some of you are using synthesizers which did not allow you to benefit from the previous version of this app, you're in for a pleasant surprise, that is, the ability to change the volume of capital letters! CapEnhance may be found in the General category of apps, and so you can install it using the AppGet utility accessed from the Apps menu in the Window-Eyes control panel. You can also view information about the app and download it from the CapEnhance App Central URL here: https://www.gwmicro.com/App_Central/Apps/App_Details/?scriptid=1423 I hope you all enjoy the current release of CapEnhance, and please read on for a taste of the CapEnhance smorgasbord. Smile All the best, Rod Hutton Changes in version 1.2 If you are upgrading from version 1.1 or earlier of CapEnhance, here is a summary of the changes and features of the current release: . the Configuration dialog has changed; the edit boxes have been replaced with track bars for easier setting adjustment . while Tone change was added to Pitch change in version 1.1, as was the ability to adjust these in either direction, version 1.2 adds Volume change to the list of adjustable parameters, offering at least one enhancement for synthesizers which do not support either pitch or tone changes . perhaps the most significant improvement in the current release is the ability to individually customize the speaking of caps for each of your synthesizers, and, once configured, parameter switching takes place automatically Prliminary notes and information The current design of CapEnhance is the result of many hours of intense reflection and experimentation. The goal which fueled the original app design was to offer the user greater flexibility in enhancing the speaking of caps. To that end, tone, volume, the ability to lower or raise each of these parameters, and synthesizer-specific enhancements have all been added to the single feature present in the app's initial release, namely, pitch increase. Despite the current version's impressive feature set, it eventually became apparent that the app's single missing feature was the ability for the user to transition easily between the enhanced speaking of caps provided by CapEnhance and the normal Window-Eyes cap-handling method. Therefore, for all of the benefits the app offers, perhaps its most flexible feature is the freedom it offers to enjoy the best of both worlds, the normal and enhanced way of handling caps. Re: OCR for window eyes
Hi all, it appears that F6 does not work any more! What I did, is I have iTunes displayed in the system tray.when I go into the store. I can press ALt+, you can configure the iTunes system tray options from there! Once you have done this, you can then press ALT+tab to move between the store and the iTunes window! give this a try, and see if it works for you? Don't forget, you will have to configure iTunes to come up in the System tray first! Thank you. If your computer is running Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP , Windows Defender only removes spyware. I am currently working for a company called USA Contact Point as a 1099 contractor. The Job is basically a customer service job, but, it is a work-from-home job, and, they like for their workers to use Google Chrome. Previous to this, I did the job using ChromeVox, which worked, but, felt more clunky than the regular Web support offered by Window-Eyes. I found out I could use Chrome just for the phone part of the interface, and, I could use Internet Explorer to access the customer look-up part of the system. Some times, though, the support people at the company would complain that I was using Internet Explorer, and, would tell me to only use Chrome. Now that Window-Eyes supports Chrome, I can do almost all of the job without using Internet Explorer, except for a couple screens, where I still need the mouse clicks instead of keyboard use. By the way, the mouse support in Internet Explorer has helped me to do the job before the Chrome support became a reality, so, my hats off to AI Squared's Window-Eyes team, an, to GW Micro before that. Window-Eyes is helping me to keep paying the family expenses-or at least add to what we already receive. Thanks again for all the great work. Re: New app - CapEnhance
Thanks Rod! Warm Regards, Brendon Donohue On 25 Mar 2015, at 2:10 am, Rod Hutton via Talk talk@lists.window-eyes.com wrote: Hi everyone! I have created a new app, CapEnhance. This app enhances the speaking of capital letters. Synthesizers normally increase the pitch of caps by a certain default amount, but this app allows you to choose your own value. The app may b found on App Central at the following URL: https://www.gwmicro.com/App_Central/Apps/App_Details/?scriptid=1423 Alternatively, you may install the app using the AppGet utility, which is run from the Apps menu in the Window-Eyes control panel. CapEnhance is in the General category of apps. For your convenience, I have provided the full documentation for this app at the end of this message. All the best, and enjoy, Rod Hutton Welcome to CapEnhance! This app enhances the speaking of capital letters you type on the keyboard or encounter using the text cursor or mouse pointer. Allow me to acknowledge the work of Vic Beckley, who authored the CapBeeper ap, who graciously shared his code by leaving it unencrypted, thereby allowing it to be studied. He was also generous in granting me permission to use his code in my app when I contacted him. Vic Beckley's code is the engine lying at the core of the present app, the only difference being that, while CapBeeper plays an audio file when capital letters are encountered, the present app alters how they are spoken; specifically, it raises their pitch by the value you choose. The CapEnhance menu The CapEnhance entry on the Window-Eyes Apps menu has the following options: Configuration. This menu option opens a dialog which contains all the settings for the app. Help. This menu option opens the standard Window-Eyes help dialog, and where you can read the app documentation. How it works CapEnhance was not designed with its own hotkey; this is because Window-Eyes and all the available apps already have so many hotkeys that one more is one too many. Besides, the app, once configured, can be left enabled and probably will not need to be disabled at any time. The Configuration dialog has only a handful of controls, as well as three buttons: Enable enhancement. This check box toggles the enhanced speaking of capital letters on and off. Immediately after toggling this check box, you will be placed in the Test sentence edit box where you can use your arrow keys to review the sample sentence so that you can evaluate the effect of the enhancement setting you have chosen in real time. Pitch increase. This is an edit box which accepts only one character, a number between 0 and 9, which will be added to the screen pitch currently in effect. Normally, synthesizers do increase the keyboard pitch setting for capital letters by a value of 2. CapEnhance, by contrast, silences the keyboard voice just prior to speaking a capital letter, and, instead, adds the value in the Pitch increase edit box to the current screen pitch value and then speaks it. Since a pitch value for any voice can never be greater than 9, the actual pitch you will hear for the capital letter will never be greater than 9. Therefore, assuming a normal screen pitch setting of 3, and the default value provided by the app is 4, capital letters will be spoken with a pitch of 7. Again, as with the Enable enhancement check box, as soon as a value is entered in the Pitch increase edit box, focus is placed in the Test sentence edit box to allow you to evaluate the effect of the enhancement. Ok. I have purchased an activation back in the days of Eloquence to use with Window-Eyes. Anyway, I have looked all over the darn place for my serial activation installer which converts Window-Eyes from the standard generic Office serial number to your own unique serial number, so that you then can install voices, and attach the activation to a valid serial. I think I've managed to lose this file in a hard disk crash. I was able to go to the GWMicro web site and paste in my serial number which I found under help/about from my laptop, as that system has already been converted. I just installed W E on the Windows 7 machine two days ago though. I got the copy of the Eloquence activation downloaded for my serial number, as I think I get up to 5 activations, and I have only used one of them. I found the installer activation file on the GW Micro web site where you read about the different voices that can be purchased. I just pasted in my serial, and it took me to my available licenses. But now, I can't find the activation file to convert my copy of W E over to that branded serial, therefore, the Eloquence activation file is useless. How can I go about redownloading that activation file? Again, just to be 100% clear, I'm not talking about the Eloquence activation file. that, I have. What I don't! have, is the actual installer that converts my W E serial from weforoffice or whatever the heck they put there, over to my P7*** whatever, fill in the blank, serial. Please tell me I don't have to wait to Monday to call A I Squared! I can't stand! ESpeak! I have a very very severe hearing loss, and it's making me almost not be able to use my PC being I only have access to ESpeak. And, Microsoft TTS isn't hardly any better. Here's what Google Help has to say about Compact and Normal Controls: Full screen mode and compact controls If you've ever wanted more room to work in one of your documents, you can now free up some space by viewing them in full screen or compact controls mode. Here's how: For compact controls, click the Hide the menus button on the right side of the toolbar. You can also go to the View menu and select Compact controls or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+F. For full screen mode, go to the View menu and select Full screen. If you're in full screen mode, you can return to regular viewing mode by hitting the Esc or Escape key. Google Docs will remember the view settings you've selected for your documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and drawings. For example, if you change your view setting to Full screen while working on a document and to Compact controls while working on a presentation, the next time you open or create a document or presentation, it will open in that app's most recent view mode (Full screen and Compact controls, respectively). Spreadsheets will remain in compact controls mode between sessions, but not in full screen mode. A couple notes: 1. To activate Compact Control Mode, or leave the same, you will need to either use the bypass key (INSERT-b by default,) or change the Window-Eyes Search hotkey (CTRL-SHIFT-f by default.) 2. Depending on your Browse Mode/Autoload settings, when leaving full-screen mode, ESCAPE may place you in Browse Mode; If so, you will need to hit escape a second time to return to Normal Viewing mode. Remember to hit CTRL-SHIFT-a to leave Browse Mode before attempting to edit or navigate your document. HTH. Interestingly enough when the problem I'm about to describe started happening, she was running window-eyes 8.4, but I thought upgrading to 9.1 might solve the problem. Unfortunately, it didn't so here I am. What's happening is that for whatever reason she's unable to read edit boxes in certain applications like her twitter client called Chicken Nugget, and most notably in Miranda NG, which she uses for Facebook chat. when you're in a text area you should be able to use your arrow keys to read back what you've written letter by letter, sentence by sentence, etc. However, when she tries to do this, window-eyes simply says blank, blank, blank. This happened after she rebooted her pc after it locked up for whatever reason, i'm not quite sure why. Either way, Is there a fix for this? I am considering having her do a system restore to try and bring the pc back to a time before this started happening, but because she upgraded to 9.1 i'm not sure if this would be a real issue. These edit boxes read just fine with other screenreaders, but they won't read using window-eyes. Something is not allowing these edit boxes to read. So any help is greatly appreciated. If you guys need any clarification, please let me know what we can do to fix the issue. This happened with both 8.4, and it also happens with 9.1.
