[talk-ph] supporting OSM Philippines and representing OSM Philippines to various orgs.
Hi, I am receiving emails lately on how to support OSM Philippines. The natural response I give is: join OSM, collect data, edit the database, tell your friends about OSM Philippines. Do we need more support other than what I mentioned? Do we need event sponsors, funds, free beer? On another side of the coin, I also approach some orgs (particularly LGUs) to support or provide data for OSM Philippines. The usual response is: we want to know more about your organization so we can discuss it. Well, we don't have any formal org. What legal basis can we represent OSM Phil to these organizations? Is anybody a member of the OSM foundation? Perhaps we can capitalize on such affiliation. Any ideas? Or we just keep on mapping (me thinks we should). -- cheers, maning -- Freedom is still the most radical idea of all -N.Branden wiki: http://esambale.wikispaces.com/ blog: http://epsg4253.wordpress.com/ -- ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph
Re: [talk-ph] supporting OSM Philippines and representing OSM Philippines to various orgs.
The OSMF has a plan on having local chapters, somewhat similar in style to the Wikimedia Foundation's chapters. That's the only way we can represent OSM in a legal and official sense. But basing on the currently ongoing plans of setting up a Wikimedia Philippines chapter since 2007, I doubt that we can create an OpenStreetMap Philippines organization anytime soon after the OSMF has approved the policies for setting up local chapters. Then again, there are plenty of people in this mailing list that have experience setting up SEC-registered companies. In Wikipedia, we are all just a bunch of academically-inclined people. :-) On Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 6:11 PM, maning sambale emmanuel.samb...@gmail.comwrote: Hi, I am receiving emails lately on how to support OSM Philippines. Maning, Eugene, Nick, I am cc'ing Nick Black for his info. He is my fellow OSMF board member who is working on the structure and procedure for OSMF local chapters. It certainly would be great to see a Philippines chapter forming; a very vibrant community is developing and I think you guys are gaining a lot of experience in getting local government and other data contributions that we'd all like to know about. [talk-ph] Magalang disappearing when zooming out
I'm just a bit puzzled, how come, when Magalang and Arayat appears fine here: http://openstreetmap.org/?lat=15.153lon=120.678zoom=11layers=0B00FTF If you zoom out, both Magalang and Arayat disappears, despite there is more than enough space for the names on the map. However I even tried moving the name Magalang a bit further out to make sure it does not crash with Mabalacat or Clark Special Economic Zone. I don't understand why Mexico and Mabalacat stays while Magalang and Arayat does not? Funnily, using Mapnik instead of Osmarender yields completely different results. How does Osmarender (and Mapnik for that matter) calculate which names to show and which to hide? I can't find any logic in this, and am at a loss trying to rectify it. Secondly, is there anything I can do to tell the rendering engine which names have the same importance (or level)? Re: [talk-ph] Magalang disappearing when zooming out
The topic of which labels get priority or not has been discussed often at the main talk mailing list. As far as I know, there's no agreed upon solution yet for tagging for importance especially for settlements. On the other hand, Mapnik renders both labels fine so it must be a rendering issue and there shouldn't be any tweaking of the tags just to force those labels to appear. Re: [OSM-talk] Controlling Label Position
Am 26.01.2009 19:04, Kærast: Hi, Is there a recognised way of controlling where the label for leisure=park should go? At the moment it's rendering right over the top of the bandstand and I would like to be able to shift it to somewhere out of the way. The wiki suggests that relation role=label is theoretically what I want, but isn't supported in Mapnik (it is in osmarender, but that's rendering correctly). Would creating a multipolygon relationship to cut out the bandstand be enough to shift the label? It would be technically incorrect, and would be tagging for the renderer, but it just looks ugly in Mapnik at the moment. See http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=53.812977lon=-1.77304zoom=18layers=B000FFFT for the location I'm talking about specifically. The bandstand looks like it is called Lister Park whereas it is infact the entire park which is called Lister Park. This cries for a fix in the mapnik-rendere for not placing the label in a mulipolygon-hole or within building objects inside a polygon. IMHO there really needs to be a well defined mechanism that allows a tag to have multiple values. To invent new keys like old_name_1 and old_name_2 is certainly not optimal. The FAQ has the recommendation of separating multiple values with a ';' and to enter a semicolon that is part of the data as ';;'. That's actually error prone if someone enters a semicolon who doesn't know about the rule. I think that should better be reversed or '\;' be used as separator because this is much less likely to appear in regular data. Of course it is also possible to use relations. But, for tags that simply add a property to an object (like old_name) this is overkill. Matthias ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

[OSM-talk] Tagging Cycle Infrastructure in US
Hey all, I'm tagging cycle infrastructure with the lcn_ref tag but need advice since it was developed for Europe where they designate routes numerically like a highway system. What do you suggest I put as the lcn_ref for various cycle inf. (I put yes as a placeholder but it looks so lame) I have the regional bike map and the gov. hasn't numbered or named them in any way. Should specify the type of infrastructure? i.e. lcn_ref= bike lane or lcn_ref= bike boulevard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Bicycle_Boulevards) Also, has anyone tagged a bike box? [Talk-de] Fwd: Fwd: Stra?e in Industriegebieten

[Talk-de] Straße in Industriegebieten
:) Warum hast Du als role denn way vergeben?
Re: [Talk-de] Straße in Industriegebieten
