I have read filters which have worked for years in all versions up to 4.42,

Mine works erratically. I have some that came in today that WERE marked read

Re: Suspicion : Hints steals focus of newly opened dialogs

 Hello,
this is really strange and I can not find correct proof with clear
 reproduction yet.

But manytimes per day, when I open non-modal dialog like new message
window, reply window, Smartpad dialog, Finder or AddressBook etc., it
 disappears immediately.

 Anybody can confirm such behaviour?

I have had that happen a couple of times.

Could someone else please test this and add comments? This is a major PITA and
it also fails if you try to FORWARD more than one message with graphics.

Filtering in 5.0.0.132

2011-01-26 Thread Rick
I had a message in a non account based folder that I wanted to filter to
another folder. I built the filter and checked the option to filter the current
folder.

When it filtered it did not filter the message (this was also broken in v4.2)
but what it did is start deleting messaged starting with the oldest. By the
time I stopped it 150 messages were deleted. I reloaded 4.2 to be able to view
deleted messages and got them back.

birthday entries are changed on editing the address book to the actual

 Steps to reproduce this behaviour:
 - Edit an entry on the private tab in your address book with an

 - If you don't take care, you will save the entry with todays date as
   birthday, overwriting any existing entry.

 Can anyone confirm?

check message context menu, all attribute entries in Flags group are
disabled, this is why shortcut does not work too, this is same in 4.2.

You are correct - all flags are grayed out - yet I can set the priority from
within a mail and it is saved. I am not sure of the logic behind removing
access to flags (sort of - you can still invoke them). Note this is high
priority and was set from within the email that had been saved for later in

Re: Hints inconsistency

2011-01-20 Thread Rick
 Hello,
well, I am still confused from this system, preferences do not work
correctly (one option is not enabled, second is disabled but working
etc.) and default setting is not useful, this is fixable. But I do not
understand inconsistency in interface, because what I see, we have
different color, font, borders, size and setting in areas like

 1) Status bar (OS based)
 2) Folder/Account/Message Hints (TB templates based on HTML)
 3) Toolbars and URL links (TB pre-defined and without HTML templates)

So, what is planned behaviour and when we could expect, it will be finally
working? From my POV, hints should be suspended to 5.0 postrelease and now
team should focus on real showstoppers and bugfixes.

This is nor cool nor must have feature, You should spend time with now.

Agreed

Re: 5.0 showstoppers

2011-01-15 Thread Rick
 Hello All,

During the last year, most of the program's code was completely
rewritten because of the architectural changes to make IMAP working
properly. I know that there is still a lot of things to do and to
fix, but we need to make a milestone release - there are just too
many reason to do it and the main one is psychological - it's really
difficult to (re)write code for more than a year and not to make a
release, it's just too much of pressure. I hope you're understand
   what I'm trying to say.

So, please post your showstoppers as replies to this message and we
will deal with them asap. Please don't forget to add a BT link, too.
   Thank you!

Stefan - I have no IMAP accounts and can not even load the beta.

Re: After upgrade from 4.2, message date of old messages is +2 hours

2011-01-07 Thread Rick
 Hello,
two users upgraded from 4.2 to 5.0.0.126 reported problem with displaying
received and created date of old messages, all have 2 hours more then
 should be:

message received in v4.2 has header

 Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2011 20:33:11 +0100

and is displayed in 5.0 as 22:33

BTW messages received in 5.0.0.126 are OK, this problem happens to messages
 received in v4.2 only.

Now go back to v 4.2 and you will see that any messages received in v5 are a
year old

 What's new in 5.0.0.126 since 5.0.0.125:
[-] Various message viewer issues (Beta issue)
[-] (#0008265) When the current message was marked as deleted, the
menu item for undeletion was named as Delete (Beta issue)
[-] The close separate viewer... on reply/forward option wasn't working
 (Beta issue)
[-] (#0006010) When redirecting multiple messages, the
 Forwarded/Redirected flag wasn't set
[-] Untranslatable section Quick Search Tabs in Preferences dialog
[-] Some cosmetic issues (Beta issue)

I can't load this. It hangs on the splash screen and I have to kill it with the
Task Manager

Re: Flaf Deleted is missing in filters, tabs and view modes

2011-01-01 Thread Rick
 Hello,
we have deleted messages displayed directly in Message list pane, but
that's all, we can not work with it more.

There is no way to display deleted messages only in Message list tab.

It is not possible to create View Mode with normal and deleted messages.

 What You think?

I like the method used in v4. If I delete a message I don't normally WANT to
see it.

new method is worse in finding deleted messages, there is no way to see all
deleted messages only without finding them between regular messages.

This is why I ask about displaying deleted messages only.

Maybe new tab Deleted messages should be more useful.

The old way works well. What is that old adage about if it's not broken,
don't fix it? :))

Re: 5.0.0.114: Unable to reset message filter

2010-12-07 Thread Rick
 Good evening tbbeta,

I filtered messages by alt+mouseclick, then moved all displayed messages
to another folder which resulted in an emtpy message list of the
   originating folder. Of course.

But then I was unable to reset this filter by pressing ctrl+* (german
keyboard)! The only chance to reset it was a restart of TB.

As long as there is no emtpy message list there seems to be no problem
with resetting the filter. But as soon as you klick on another folder and
there is no corresponding message, i.e. with the result of an emtpy
message list, you cannot use the hotkey anymore to reset the filter.

The program froze and I had to kill it via the task manager

I tested it with a POP and here runs ok.

I'm sorry ... I have only POP and the folders were not attached to any account.

semi-public with this ALPHA series and am ready to jump in.
I don't know about the probability of losing the message base. Even
the users of the stable release version lose mail. If you wish to
test it, you can archieve the message base (%EMAIL% folder) with RAR
or ZIP and then running the alpha.

I have run the alpha and gone back to v4 and the only thing I find is - any
mail that comes in while running the alpha, sorts as a year old when you go
back to v4 :))

Ritlabs it's working privately with The Bat! 5.0 alphas. They rewrited
a lot of code related with imap and message base, and they need to
test it privately before releasing a new beta.

Maxim told us days ago he is thinking to release the first beta in
some days, but some of the alpha testing group told him it's not yet
prepared until Rits fixes some bugs.

It has a LOT wrong with it. There are stability issues. It isn't ready for
prime time, but I am sure they will fix things quickly

The Bat! gives the explanation in the account log, but we won't make

No way to send an email with TB! if the sysad at the other end is a
 dimwit. Good night then.

I am actually quite taken aback by this unexpected reply. I have
absolutely no understanding for this policy which will certainly hurt
my company. If I cannot send a mail to my customer because his sysad
didn't update the cert, I *will* lose business.

I agree - GMAIL had an expired certificate at one point and it was just too bad

What's the problem with It. I can export the mail and modify it and
later import it to The Bat!. I have the same result. What's the
diference; The Bat! it's not allowing me to do it directly ? If I
remember there are macros to do it, exporting and reimporting the
 mail as I writed.

Mail security (email addresses [destination and source], date and
other things) it's non existant because when the protocol it was
created the developers doesn't take into account all of this problems.
The only way to solve it it's using signed timedate stamps and signed
mails. The problem it's on the protocol not in the client.

 The same with TCP/IP v4.

Remember we're using protocols from 40 years ago, and they were
developed for only a little people without taking into account what
could be in the next years.

My two cents for the ability to change Subjects and add headers with
the % of Spam detected by the antispam plugins.

The difference is convenience. I am not going to export / import email just to
get rid of SPAM in the subject line.

That isn't the only use

Are there any features to facilitate this in the new version?

JW 2010/6/14 Ian A. White r...@thebat.net:
So I take it that The Bat! is going to move to a subscription model?

JW Ian, it doesn't strike me as much of a move. For just about all
JW practical purposes, TB licensing has been a subscription model since
JW v2.0. :)

It isn't really, just that maybe it needed to be said.

RITLabs are being up front about this, however there can be twists and
turns. I might be a touch jaded as a lot of the software I use that
went to a subscription model started out OK, but then some of the
turns saw it become nothing more than a revenue raiser. Originally
there was the promise of upgrades during the currency of a
subscription, only all that went out the window when it became annual
new version releases. This meant there were no upgrades at all. There
was the promise of support, only no support was offered. It had to be
provided by dealers under a separate commercial arrangement. Then it
moved to a retirement policy where if you had not upgraded for more
than 3 new releases, you had to re-buy. The licence went from being a
perpetual licence that had to be refreshed every 3 years, and once
retired, they were reluctant to refresh it for another 3 years - never
 mind about upgrades.

So, you can see, the road to subscriptions can be quite rocky. It
gives the software vendor a somewhat better revenue stream (no issues
with that), however it does also demand more of them.

So, no real issues, just that some can have issues with it.

That sounds like Quicken ...

RvdH An easy way to show all images in the current email (something like
Outlook
RvdH has, and NO i do not want to switch to Outlook...).
RvdH Now I have to use the URL manager and try to find which URL in the long
list
RvdH belongs to the current message. Not very intuitive...

Just a quick note from the other side of this.

I don't really have a problem. There is enough of the page rendered
that I can tell whether I want to look at it in detail. A quick couple
of clicks and I can see the message in all it's glory in FireFox.

FireFox already does a great job of rendering HTML. So it seems to me
that Rit Labs' time is better spent on their real business ... taking
 care of email g

Yes you CAN do that - that's how I often read emails from friends that use
Outlook / Express / WIndows mail and include linked pictures. They don't show
in the Bat and I have to load each one in the browser

Yes it works but it is CUMBERSOME and needs to be streamlined a bit :)

Editing the subject line

2010-06-09 Thread Rick
I have had this out there for quite a while but since we have new people,
perhaps they are willing to support it

I would like to see the ability to edit the subject line in received emails
Here's the link to support it
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=6700
Thanks
