Fellow sufferers;

I offer this prayer, called the Remover of Difficulties prayer, which I
have recited for decades, sometimes 400-500 times/day in times of great pain or
stress, for inner calm and the expectation of better things to come from
sources and directions I did not imagine.

Is there any Remover of Difficulties save God?
Say: Praised be God. He is God.
All are His servants, and all abide by His bidding.

Love,

Dalton

Patti I have found that the cold is much worse for me. I have found that
if I wear soft long underwear under my jeans it doesn't bother me and helps to
keep me warmer. I too always have the pins needles plus the burning/freezing
all the time, but it is so much worse in the evening.. I believe that I have
learned to live with it since I am able to fall asleep and stay asleep all
night except to go potty at least once maybe twice. I have also been told by
doctors that the pins needles in the feet is called neuropathy, which is the
same nerve pain that people with diabetes suffer from. I have a good friend
with diabetes and has suffered with it for years.

You are right to remide us about cothes, shoes and sock contributing to
our TM pain. I think I've posted for eight straight winters that wearing blue
jeans in cold weather puts me right to bed due the the intense pain the cold
material causes. New TMers beware! It isn't just the heat that causes
additional painful sensations. The cold weather causes its own set of
problems.

I don't do meds as all they did was make me completely spaced out or
zombie like and the pain was still there. Strangely enough, just the everyday

unrelated pain that then lessons the tm residuals. I have no idea why, I just
know that's what happens for me.

There are other external causes. The shoes you wear, your socks
(always wear them inside out), the clothes you wear, particularly the type of
material. I found that by paying attention to these things, I can lesson (not
by a whole lot) these annoying freeze/burn feelings.

Today I went to my granddaughters' school for a Christmas lunch, then to my

I've decided to try and get a scooter;I just can't walk very much now. The
walker just isn't enough now. It's been over 16 yrs with tm,and now I'm

Hi,
Why do insurance companies make you send in referrals for every
separate thing? You'd think they would include recommended tests, surgery, etc
all under the main referral. Plus, there is no local orthopedic oncologist for
me to see.
I just realized late last night I need my PCP to refer me for the
shoulder biopsy, and for a pathologist to read the results. Good thing I thought
of it,or I'd be paying out of pocket (and my pockets are pretty empty!). Called
my PCP's office and I need the doctor's name address phone # and diagnosis
before they can send it to Boston.
Just added stress I don't need. I'm taking deep breaths and trying to
relax.
On top of everything,I have pinkeye in both eyes.An itchy, gunky
mess.
Things have got to get better!
 Cheryl

Subject: Re: [TMIC] Hello

You know;

I go from wanting to cry to wanting to laugh in the same moment. I am so
relieved not to have to prepare for those classes anymore-I was associate
professor of economics and commodity price behavior-the lectures, but mostly
that awful bureaucratic stuff-the accreditation material, reports, the grading
and grade submissions, my annual objectives . . . So many forms to goof up and
be asked to do over. This disease has made filling out any kind of form an
arduous task, because I always lose my way and have to start from the
beginning. They took so long.

And now the only big form I have to face each year is that mother of all
forms, the tax form.

I am looking forward very much to writing and researching. My published
book is Manna from Heaven: From Divine Speech to Economic Science. it is an
analysis of economic content within the best known divinely revealed books of
God. Now I am writing another one, which is almost ready, that will target
Sunni Muslims with an analysis of the economics of the Divine Qur'an. (I am
not Muslim; I am a Baha'i). I want to start a discussion of these things among
ordinary people of all Faiths-because the way the economy is going now, it is
not serving the best interests or needs of the majority of peoples in the
world, and I can't imagine that God would leave us in the dark on this subject.
And, what I found is that there is a tremendous amount of economic content in
the divinely revealed Words of God. They haven't been economically analyzed
because economics is only about 100 years old as a formalized academic
discipline.

Anyway, I am packing now and pretty happy. I am over the sting of being
pushed out, and that quiet but palpable air of dismissiveness from bosses and
some colleagues alike. Suddenly you are like a dead man walking, and they
don't want to be around you. They look the other way, as if being dismissed
were a contagion they must avoid. You know what I mean. As disabled persons
we encounter it every day on the street, in the check-out line, and the
restroom.

The staff-secretaries, cleaners, janitors-are different. They come up to
you and ask how you are, and say that they will miss you and are sad to see you
go. I think that if when I die, such persons show up to my funeral, I will
have perhaps not been too bad. Our colleagues and relatives, these must show
up, so it doesn't mean much. But if ordinary workers who don't owe you
anything, if they show up, then you have been not too bad as a person.

So back to packing-and ice cream with almonds, walnuts, fudge sauce.

Thanks everyone, you mean a lot to me. How could I have gotten along so
long alone over here without your help and friendship?!

Dalton

  To All TMIC family;
I need all the prayers for my childrens mother, my ex-wife Sally. We are
very good friends and have a better relationship than when we were married.
Here is a short version she wrote explaining what has been happening to her.
many of you know she was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer years ago: here
is her latest condition. She needs all our prayers to survive this for any
length of time.
  Thank you and Sincerely,
  Bernie

Have been on a couple of different oral chemotherapies since first
discovering the cancer in 2005 - Arimidex for a long time, 'til it apparently
stopped working (when I had the double mastectomy in late 2008), and Xeloda,
which also did not work. This week I'll have my second round of Taxotere.
Couple of weeks after the first round, my hair started falling out, so now I'm
shaved bald!
I've lost about 80 pounds, which is skinniest Ive been in about 30 years!
I look normal to myself because spent greater portion of my life closer to this
weight, but my appearance is apparently shocking to those who haven't seen me
in awhile.
I get short of breath easily and my voice is hoarse most of the time.
I've already outlived the median life expectancy of 3 years for my diagnosis
(stage 4 breast cancer), so plan to keep it up as long as I can! Chemo makes
me tired, so I sleep a lot.
It's a funny kind of limbo...
Now I see why didn't want to write this - it's depressing! How does one
write about cancer in an upbeat way?
Anyway, I don't spend time wringing my hands moaning. Enjoy myself doing
what I want each day and I get lots of rest!
That's all for now.. Pray for me and keep my in your happy thoughts.

  Well, friends;

I now have an answer to these symptoms of attacks of contractions. I have
stiff man syndrome, or stiff person SPS. It is an autoimmune disease
similar to all these others, only it attacks a place in the brain that
makes tie chemical that transmits signals to the voluntary muscles.
People with this can get attacks from stress, loud noises, too much
stimulation, or just minding their own business.

It is progressive with all the muscles finally getting involved. But I may
have what they call an indolent case, which means it wont progress too
fast, and I can get my work completed.

Nice to have a time line!!!

  Dalton

I just found out that Cathy had a stroke as result of her injuries. We really
desire prayer. The family, especially the immediate family, is really going
through it.
The second concern is for Dale and Brenda Smith.
Like most on this list, Dale has a neurological condition but I don't know
what the diagnose turned out to be. He was once a skinny, athletic, healthy
young man with a wife and two kids. He had a neurological reaction to
medication and lost the use of everything below the waist, his speech, and most
likely suffered brain damage.
Dale's home was also wiped clean. He was bed ridden and could not move.

The tornado blew him and his mother, a home health care nurse, across the
yard, across the road and into a ditch. It then dropped large tree on top of
their bodies.

It was dark, no one could see. People stood up from the rubble that used to
be homes and started trying to get their barrings. Two people from two
different directions heard Dale's deep moaning and Brenda's unconscious
screaming.

I will not detail the damage that suffer because many would probably be
offended that I shared. Their bodies were seriously injured in ways that you
can't imagine. Dale lost a leg. Both had to have multiple surgeries to their
face, head, eyes, and other places. Neither are doing well. Brenda is still
unconsciously.

There are many in our home area that did not survive this event. Tuscaloosa
is getting national attention AS IT SHOULD. However, there were S many
small communities that were impacted - one after another after another. One
can simply drive 5 miles down the road to the next small community and see the
same disaster. Some places were hit by 1/2 mile size F3 to F4. Others got the
blunt of an F5 size as the twister changed sizes. One friend video'd the thing
and promised to send it to me. There is clearly a large wedge shape tornado in
the blue sky. On the right is a large twister. To the left is a smaller
twister. To one's dismay, the blackness of large wedge and large twister began
to come closer until they are one big black mass. Then the same happens on the
left side until it is one unbelievable large mass. Then the entire screen is
black and all one can see in the video is occasionally lightening inside the
monster.

I am also very concerned about you Dalton as I read through your posts. Is
there a possibility that your doctor would consider consulting with Dr.
Greenberg at UT Southwestern Med Center, Dallas, Texas? I went to the
Symposium Sept 24-26, 2010 held in Dallas. Our very kind and generous Jim
Lubin has placed the Symposium videos on the TMA site. Have you had a chance
to watch any of them? I'm just trying to find a way here to get you some much
needed help. Maybe the 2 doctors could brainstorm by email/phone or whatever,
and possibly agree to try another approach that would work better for you. I'm
not even sure if I've explained that very well, but it certainly could not hurt
if your doctor would be willing to consult with one of our specialists here in
the states. There are many of our TM friends who are doing this now or have
done it in the past. Your TM symptoms/residuals/relapses - not sure what to
call them - are unique. You need additional help and I'm sure your doctor is
frustrated. I hope at least some of this makes sense.
I wish you the very best Dalton,

  Also,

The MRIs didn't find any brain lesions. Maybe in my case, due to the earlier
back injuries, I am just super sensitive to any exertion at all as the
bloodstream to the spinal cord is reduced?

My husband was originally diagnosed with tm but because he kept getting
relapses they began looking into other causes of symptoms. It was later
discovered that he had lyphphoma which caused a leasion (sp) on his spinal
column which looked like tm. He is the only known person where lymphoma
penetrated the myelin. After radiation and chemo the leasion is gone but the
spinal cord damage remains. Dalton recurring incidents are not typical of tm. I
hope they are checking you for MS or other possibilities regarding your very
unusual symptoms.

  Dalton,

Maybe I'm missing something, but what exactly are these attacks you
describe?

I don't understand what your neurologist calls cycling as far as worsening
of TM symptoms.

I have always understood, and have read somewhere, perhaps on this list or
the TM Journal, that we have the onset of TM experiences (lesions on the
spinal cord) which for most of of us is a one-time occurrence with possibly
lasting symptoms, AND we have times of exacerbation brought on by physical or
mental overexertion, maybe an illness such as even a cold and so on (I have
worse banding from sitting too long or standing too long) which are not caused
by further damage to the spinal cord but worsening of symptoms at least
temporarily.

So, again, Dalton, I am confused as to your attacks--could it be another
lesion, could you be experiencing MS? I hope not, but just wonder what is
happening--and forgive me for my curiosity.

I was scheduled to start PT that day, but therapist wouldn't let me start
before she examined me because she saw that my gait was really off ~ She
worked on me for about 2 hours, and then I started my aqua therapy and did that
for about 6 months. That helped me a lot! Long drive though, so I'm looking
for something closer to home. And as of today my legs are still the same
length. (short! because I'm a very tall 5' 2 : )

Are you now or have you been walking with a cane? When I'm tired and have
little energy, I have no business being any place except my house because I
know that's really hard on my entire body. True for all or most of us, I'm sure.

a bunching up in my hip that was the problem. Hope we can fix it.

She is in isolation and has to lie flat on her back or on one of her sides
for the next two weeks (at least). She has no internet, no phone in her room

would be so nice.

  Thanks!

Cindy fractured her femur two weeks ago while transferring. She had an
immediate surgery to place a rod. Last week, the wound became infected and
another surgery was performed. She is in St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton, CA.
She is totally immobile to give the best chance of healing, as well as on IV
antibiotics. Am sure she would enjoy hearing from friends. Will keep the list
updated as I get more information. Thoughts and prayers will be greatly
appreciated.

  Hello Group,

This is Judy Hoops (Jude) and it has been quite a while since I have written
to the site. No reason why, except that maybe I needed a break from all of the
talk of the “blusey” side of the disease. I try to maintain a positive
attitude, but since the death of my best TM friend, Pam Montz, I needed a long
break before I could once more become an active participant of the group like I
used to be.

For new members, I have had TM for somewhat more than eight years, can’t
recall due to memory dysfunction, and other related symptoms of TM, for one
being a difficulty in typing, where I used to be a whiz...maybe just a matter
of continuing to do it on a regular basis. I am paralyzed from T3 (breast
level with the use of my arms, Thank God.) I have horrible continuous pain
from T3 on the Spinal Column to the tips of my toes. I am not able to walk,
use a wheelchair to get around and spend a lot of time in bed just because of
laziness.

We have no children and do not have a large social group and no family to
speak of. My husband wanted property so we moved out of our living area where
we had resided forever, to a small, and I mean “small” village where we have 5
acres and a nice two story home, which we bought before I became ill. Now, the
house makes no sense whatsoever and I am able to use only a small portion of
it; my bedroom, which used to be the den, the kitchen/dining area and living
room. I have spent so long in my bedroom that I have forgotten what the rest
of the house looks like. It’s either that or the memory difficulties which I
just two days ago began taking meds to, hopefully, reverse the dysfunction.

OK, that’s all I can muster for my first time back. What’s going on with all
of my old friends? Let me know.
  I love you all,
  Jude

Anyway, I make use of the three rooms, but my husband does all of the cooking
and eats in my room with me, and he takes care of all of the remaining
household chores that I cannot do because of the constant intense pain I
experience 24/7. I have pain meds, but hate to take them because they turn me
into a “zombie” and it affects most of my “normal” human existence, as it is.
Most of you know what I mean, the rest of you will catch on the longer you have
TM and continue to read these excerpts.

Some of you may recall that I was the drummer with a group called the
Edsels in the late 50's. We recorded a song called Rama Lama Ding Dong.
Anyway, I was talkin with Harry Green (2nd Tenor), and Marshall Sewel (Bass)
the other night, and we discussed George (Wydell) Jones who passed away two
years ago. George was the lead singer with us. Marshall asked what was wrong
with me using a cane, so I told him. He asked if that was anything like Polio
and I told him the difference, and started complaining. He said, Ya know, Doc
Had Polio. Doc who I asked. He said Doc Pomus who's real name was Jerome
Felder. I never met him but Marshall had so he related this story. Doc
contracted Polio as a child way back and in his early years, and was confined
to a wheel chair. It seems he and his wife were at an awards ceremony where Doc
was watching his wife dance with other guys that they of course knew, so Doc
penned a song for her as he watched called Save the last dance for me. If
anyone here is old enough, the Drifters recorded that back in the early 60's.
Check out the Drifters on You Tube, click on save the last dance for me, and
listen to the words. Just goes to show what you can do if you set your mind to
it. He wrote a ton of other hits also, but this one especially hit home with
me. Something I never knew before. I guess we never stop learning.

This is what I have been told also. My lesions can still be seen but they are
inactive (C4,5,6). I was told they are like a scar. However, I've seen posts

  Hi Dalton and all,
I was 1st diagnosed with TM June 2005. I had lesions from T7-T10. Every
time I have new MRI's, I am always told that I have no new lesions, but they
can still see the old ones which are inactive. So I would say the lesions do
not go away, they are there like a scar.

  Hey, Janice!

We missed you. And I missed you. Glad to have you back with us.

I have a question for everyone. A recent set of MRIs showed that my spine in
the thoracic was clear with no lesions or swellings. It has been one year
since the diagnosis for TM.

Do these lesions clear up later on, or did somebody make a mistake somewhere?
Because my everyday symptoms are still weakness and pain from fingers to just
above the elbow, and from toes to above the knees with banding and burning in
the torso and back. And if I exercise at all, the next day I am in for
day-long spasms that leave me housebound and often unable to get around without
assistance of my dear part-time maid and helper.

Could someone get back to me on this?

  Thanks a lot.

  Actually;

I had a day-long attack of spasms yesterday which left me unable to control
either my hands and arms, legs, torso or speech. Every time I tried to talk I
would cramp up. And Elvis was definitely being channeled in my body. Thank
heavens I had the assistance of a very nice and strong maid who visits me once
a week. It was her day to visit and she stayed with me and helped me to the
bathroom and into and out of chairs. It was hard to sit down because I
couldn’t make my body bend and I’d just slide off. But we got it under
control. She had to help me drink and eat. I would grab the coffee cup handle
and then could not make my hand let go.

In the mean time I was so grateful for her assistance and that the Lord was
taking care of me that I was also as high as a kite and proposing marriage to
chairs and such.

Today was the beginning of the work week here (Abu Dhabi) and I did alright.
But the lecture kept going off on these tangents making it hard for my class to
take useful notes. It was because my mental state was still flying around the
cosmos.

What is going on here? OK, I have TM in my upper spine; but what is this
mental derangement stuff? I sure wish the drs could find out what is wrong
with me.

  Hello all,

Well, maybe I shouldn't have asked this question, but I'm glad I did. It
looks like some support was needed for you guys and maybe for some just lurking
and not feeling up to writing in. Believe me, I sympathize with you and your
pain.

This time of year, when it's cold in many parts of the country and world, my
symptoms get worse also. It seems that some of us have symptoms that are
exacerbated by the cold and some by heat. The barometric pressure can affect
many.

Mine are much worse in the cold, and especially if it's rainy. My skin can
be warm to the touch, but I can feel cold to the bone (as I say). I actually
think that it may be the nerves that are cold and it is so hard to warm up
again. It can be really painful. I get under the blankets and also wrap my
legs in blankets, sometimes a heated one, and pray it goes away soon, but I can
only do that when I'm at home.

I try not to go out of the house unless absolutely necessary during this time
of year, and I am sure that this is why the winter blues set in. This is
something we have to be very careful of, because it can cause a lot of
depression. Please be aware of this. This is another reason why it's
important to keep in touch.

Hugs, Barbara A in Auburn CA

  Hi Dalton Everyone ~~

You're right Dalton. Many of us seem to be having additional challenges
right now. Could be why we've been so quiet on the list

After I read your post about the horrific day you had, I did a little
research, and I think I came back even more confused - sorry to say. I'm sure
I've asked you this before, but I'll ask again.
Have you been given any drugs specifically for seizures? If not, could your
doctor put you on a seizure med for a trial period to see if it would indeed
help?? I don't understand why they haven't tried this. How does anybody know
if nothing has been tried???

Is Lyrica the only medication you take? Is there another neuro you could see
or would your neuro consider consulting another neuro about your case?

So many questions - so few answers. I don't know what to say. It's so
frustrating to see you going through all of this. Hang in there and keep
posting.

Seems as if everyone went down at the same time. Is it possible that I

But he just keeps me in Lyrica and has no further interest.

Have been trying to keep myself calm and quiet as I am in a full blown
flare. I'm 2 months past my Rituxan infusions, which obviously is not good.
Hoping they were approved last Friday and will be scheduled this week. I have
Recurring TM and Rituxan has kept me attack free the last 2 years - I guess
that teaches me a lesson - the hard way. Get infusions every 6 months on
schedule. A real bummer

Re: [TMIC] hello out thereDalton, yes you still have all the symptoms. When I
told you I did some research after you had such a horrible day, I was trying to
find more information on brainstem lesions. Well I found a bunch of
information, but I walked away with even more questions. Could you ask your
doctor questions specifically about the brainstem lesions? Possibly these are
causing most of your bad times?

But no lesions. OK, I'm stumped, except that the brainstem lesions are still
there.

This is what I have been told also. My lesions can still be seen but they
are inactive (C4,5,6). I was told they are like a scar. However, I've seen
posts where others have been told something different.
Dalton, I still have all the residuals - burning, banding, weakness - it's
just that some days are better than others. It's going on 9 years for me.
Hope you get to feeling better!

A recent set of MRIs showed that my spine
in the thoracic was clear with no lesions or swellings. It has been one year
since the diagnosis for TM.

Do these lesions clear up later on, or did somebody make a mistake
somewhere? Because my everyday symptoms are still weakness and pain from
fingers to just above the elbow, and from toes to above the knees with banding
and burning in the torso and back. And if I exercise at all, the next day I
am in for day-long spasms that leave me housebound and often unable to get
around without assistance of my dear part-time maid and helper.

Could someone get back to me on this?

Thanks a lot.

Dalton

Actually;

I had a day-long attack of spasms yesterday which left me unable to
control either my hands and arms, legs, torso or speech. Every time I tried
to talk I would cramp up. And Elvis was definitely being channeled in my body.
Thank heavens I had the assistance of a very nice and strong maid who visits
me once a week. It was her day to visit and she stayed with me and helped me
to the bathroom and into and out of chairs. It was hard to sit down because I
couldn't make my body bend and I'd just slide off. But we got it under
control. She had to help me drink and eat. I would grab the coffee cup
handle and then could not make my hand let go.

In the mean time I was so grateful for her assistance and that the Lord
was taking care of me that I was also as high as a kite

You're right Dalton. Many of us seem to be having additional challenges right
now. Could be why we've been so quiet on the list

After I read your post about the horrific day you had, I did a little research,
and I think I came back even more confused - sorry to say. I'm sure I've asked
you this before, but I'll ask again.

Is it possible that I might

Hi Regina,
The symposium was in Dallas, and about 150 TM'ers and their caregivers
attended, which made it a success. I met Linda from Idaho there, Todd Tarno
and Cora were there. Those were the only people that I recognized from the
tmic list.

It will take a few weeks for the videographers to edit the talks, but Jim
will be posting them online at the TMA website as soon as they are available.
What was special about this one was that about a half dozen kids with TM and
their parents attended, and the kids all made fast friendships, and given lots
to do by our pediatric nurse, Janet Dean, who is from Kennedy Krieger in
Baltimore. It is really hard for young ones to keep still and not get bored
while sitting and listening to the doctors talk about bowel/bladder management,
spasticity issues, optic neuritis, and all the other issues that we face.

Stay posted, I am sure that Jim will notify the list once the videos are
available.
Take care,
Debbie

Any comments? Was it productive? Can we access any reporting online like

Dear tmfamily,

I have deleted every piece of mail since 9/16, as I have
spent the last

2 weeks in the hospital..I fell the night of 9/16, went
to hospital 9/17

had surgery 9/18 and went to rehab 9/19. The surgery
placed pins

in my rigtht ankle which I broke on both sides. Am home as
of Sat 10/2

and most happy to be hereI'm tired and only moving
by wheelchair

which will be replaced by scooter next week. I deleted
more than 1700

emails, which included all from youall...I'll catch up
with what's going on

as I gain strength.

This is not all bad news. I've not shared what's been
happening to me

since Feb...at that time I had an illness, not
flu,but flu-like. My doc

said it most likely was a virus that would wear out in
time. I was down

long enough that I began to lose some of my mobility. On
the other hand

I began to regain feelings that hadn't been there since tm
came to stay (19996). I wondered if the pains I began to have were there all
along, but I couldn't feel them. As I lost more mobility, I came to depend
more and more on my 4 prong and my walker. My walker was part of reason I
broke my anklethat and my clumsiness!!

With rehab I have begun to regain the strength I'll need to
become a member of walking wounded again. Home Care, esp.p.t., will continue
for at least next 60 days.

This is all for now, it's taken two sessions to get this
written..later...

I remember my neurologist said that the virus that started mine was gone and

He was treated at Pennsylvania Hospital under the care of a team of
Neurologists. He was given mega doses of Prednisone and is currently weaning
with oral prednisone. He was discharged from the hospital last Thursday and he
is now working hard at an acute rehabilitation center (3-5 hours each day).
He has a very positive outlook and is taking it one day at a time.

My question is this..is there a support group for spouses of TM?

see another person go through what I did many years ago was a real eye-opener.
One of my sisters-in-law works in the medical field here in Idaho and she has
seen 4 people in the last year or so with the diagnosis of TM. One was air
lifted to a larger hospital here where I live. If you want to see something
interesting, take a look in the TMA Members Directory and see how many people

I can really relate. Had them for years, and years with no explanation. Mine
were not as severe as yours - I would have no warning of any kind - had them at
out of town business functions (lovely), at work, waiting for a bus in downtown
Seattle - I even got to spend one of my birthdays in the hospital all day
because of a seizure at my office that morning. Then when TM hit they became
more frequent and presented much worse. Finally got answers from a great
neurologist who was on call while I was in the hospital. Was put on Lamictal
and have been seizure-free since then. What drugs has your doctor given you so
far? And maybe I shouldn't ask this, but I will anyway - do you have
confidence in this doctor??? Have you worn an EEG machine around your waist
for the 24-hour evaluation? Had brain scan? Hang in there. Someone will find
an answer. Please keep posting updates.

  Good advice for everyone's safety!

THIRTEEN THINGS YOUR BURGLAR WON'T TELL YOU
  1. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your
carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator.

  2. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your
yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my
return a little easier.

  3. Love those flowers. That tells me you have taste... and taste means there
are nice things inside. Those yard toys your kids leave out always make me
wonder what type of gaming system they have.

  4. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might
leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove
it.

  5. If it snows while you're out of town, get a neighbor to create car and
foot tracks into the house. Virgin drifts in the driveway are a dead giveaway.

  6. If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don't let your alarm
company install the control pad where I can see if it's set. That makes it too
easy.

  7. A good security company alarms the window over the sink. And the windows
on the second floor, which often access the master bedroom – and your jewelry.
It's not a bad idea to put motion detectors up there too.

  8. It's raining, you're fumbling with your umbrella, and you forget to lock
your door – understandable. But understand this: I don't take a day off because
of bad weather.

  9. I always knock first. If you answer, I'll ask for directions somewhere or
offer to clean your gutters. (Don't take me up on it.)

10 . Do you really think I won't look in your sock drawer? I always check
dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet.

  11. Here's a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids' rooms.

  12. You're right: I won't have enough time to break into that safe where you
keep your valuables. But if it's not bolted down, I'll take it with me.

  13. A loud TV or radio can be a better deterrent than the best alarm system.
If you're reluctant to leave your TV on while you're out of town, you can buy a
$35 device that works on a timer and simulates the flickering glow of a real
television. (Find it at http://www.faketv.com/http://www.faketv.com/)

--

8 MORE THINGS A BURGLAR WON'T TELL YOU:
  1. Sometimes, I carry a clipboard. Sometimes, I dress like a lawn guy and
carry a rake. I do my best to never, ever look like a crook.

  2. The two things I hate most: loud dogs and nosy neighbors.

  3. I'll break a window to get in, even if it makes a little noise. If your
neighbor hears one loud sound, he'll stop what he's doing and wait to hear it
again... If he doesn't hear it again, he'll just go back to what he was doing.
It's human nature.

  4. I'm not complaining, but why would you pay all that money for a fancy
alarm system and leave your house without setting it?

  5. I love looking in your windows. I'm looking for signs that you're home,
and for flat screen TVs or gaming systems I'd like. I'll drive or walk through
your neighborhood at night, before you close the blinds, just to pick my
targets.

  6. Avoid announcing your vacation on your Facebook page. It's easier than you
think to look up your address.

  7. To you, leaving that window open just a crack during the day is a way to
let in a little fresh air. To me, it's an invitation.

  8. If you don't answer when I knock, I try the door. Occasionally, I hit the
jackpot and walk right in.

Rev Craig, so glad you had a productive visit with your new neurologist. You
asked about your meds. Many TMers have used most of these meds at one time or
another. However, that Ropinirole threw me for a loop as I've never heard of
it, so I researched it. Did your doctor give you an entire pamphlet on the
medication or did she just briefly tell you about it? I ask because I've
really never seen a drug quite like this. All drugs have side effects, and
this one has its fair share. But what really shocked me was the very long
section called: What special precautions should I follow? You really do need
to read ALL of this - please. It's very important.

And you're right, you never know, you may just show up in the pulpit wearing a
pink tutu and a glittery tiara! We'd like a picture of that please : )

Has anyone else here used this drug called Ropinirole or googled it? Please
post if you have.

Good luck to you Craig. You have a great attitude - and a great sense of
humor to go along with it.

  Subject: [TMIC] Neurologist visit

Finally had my first appointment with new neurologist.

The good news (according to her) is that while my TM will be with me the rest
of my life, it will not get progressively worse because she says TM is not a
degenerative disease. The TM can keep you from being as active as you should be
so over time many people with TM lose a lot of strength and function. That has
happened to me.

The bad news is that I do have a type of neuropathy which will
get progressively worse and there is really nothing to be done with it except
control the symptoms.

Bottom line according to her? I will probably not live until I am
90, and as time goes by I will have less and less neural control over my
extremities. So my neurologist has started me on some meds she says I should
have been on all along but I should also stay on the ones I am on currently.
The mixture of all these different drugs might be interesting. Who knows, some
Sunday morning I may show up in the pulpit wearing a pink tutu and a glittery
tiara.

The drugs I currently take are hydrocodone, Tramadol, and
Amitriptyline. She has added gabapentin 300mg and Ropinirole 0.5mg. If anyone
has anything they think I should know about these last two meds, I would
appreciate it.

BTW, she said she was already aware of, and read up on, TM.

Hi Barbara,

Great information you gave Kevin. You suggested group therapy and that you had
done it yourself. Are you talking about for depression? If so I can see how
that would be very beneficial to physically be with others who share the same
or similar depression issues. Is this what you meant and if so how did you get
involved in a group therapy? Sorry if this is obvious to everyone else except

  Hello Kevin,

How have you been? It looks like you are finally getting some services and
some medications. Looks like you are on the right track. I'm so thrilled to
hear that you are getting physical therapy and the anti-depression meds. Who
knows how much better you'd be if you would have gotten this long ago, but at
least you are getting them now.

It's hard work, but I hope that you will see some reward from the therapy.
If you can get strong enough to get out again, a group therapy may be a good
situation for you. I did that for quite some time prior to moving here and it
helped me so much with my depression. I should do it again, as I find myself
slipping every now and then, like several times a year, and not pulling myself
out too easily. It's hard to start, but once you do, you'll find that you
don't want to miss it. I found that I felt that I was helping others and in
turn it felt like I was helping myself. Very much like the TMIC, but you get
to do it in person, so you get that human contact that is necessary for us to
thrive.

take several weeks. At least no bad side effects like I had with Lyrica and
Cymbalta.

I'm also getting physical therapy at home three days a week, which is kicking
my butt, (fatigue, pain), and
will be starting occupational therapy for my hands. Last week, my BP was low,
and still is in the

Anyway, I'm trying to be proactive about things..not easy for me.

Yep, Akua, can totally relate to everything you said. Since TM, I have had
such trouble with my sleep, or lack thereof, that I find myself crying at the
drop of a hat - Sleeping pills don't work for me. However, many people have
told me about their positive experience with Melatonin. Out of sheer
desperation, I talked to my pharmacist about it. He reviewed my meds and told
me it would be ok to take. After 3 days I actually slept 9 hours, then 8 hours
and it's been pretty consistent since. The most I was sleeping before was 3 or
4 hours, wake up and not get back to sleep for another 2 hours and only for an
hour if I was lucky - and then it wasn't even a restful sleep. I have to take
a nap every day. Basically no quality of life because I was so so tired all
the time from not sleeping.
I'm all set to go to the Symposium in Dallas and I am already worried about the
long air travel, the long days at the Symposium itself and how in the world I
will be able to handle all of it.

  Friends;

Today awoke extremely weak, and out of breath with the least expenditure of
effort. By 10:00 had lost a lot of muscle coordination and all strength. Just
went from sitting in one chair to another. Sweating profusely. But still no

  Dear Friends,

I am looking for ways to cut my expenses so I can continue to
live where I am. I have never used Medicare, but have been
paying about $100 a month for it for about 10 years out of
my SSDI. Blue Cross is my primary insurance. I am thinking
of dropping Medicare for now to save money. I was told I
could always reapply for it later, that it takes about 3 months
  to get it back.
I would like opinions on whether there could be negative
repercussions to dropping it for now. As I mentioned, I've
never used it in 10 years.

Great news! Hydrotherapy is amazing for the entire body. Go for it! What
dosage of Amitriptyline will you be on? I took it at one time and had to titre
up very slowly. It was very helpful for what was going on with my body at the
time, but I couldn't handle the higher dosage. I had horrible nightmares.
Again, we're all different. I sincerely hope you find relief with your new
cocktail of meds. Please keep us posted.

I went to the clinic today and saw my nurse practitioner. Turns out she had
taken quite bit of time to study up on TM; something my former doctor never
bothered to do. So we were able to discuss intelligently my symptoms, my meds,
and treatment options. What a difference!
She upped my hydrocodone from 5mg to 10mg, scheduled me for PT
(including hydrotherapy) and she added Amitriptyline HCL. This should help me
sleep and also help with depression. Has anyone had any experience with this
drug? What can I expect?
God bless those who care and take the time to educate themselves
about what we face. There are not many of them, but if you find one they are
like gold.

she sounds. Jude does not remember my visit last week. She was surprised when
her husband told her I had visited. That's how sick she was.

Jude remembers writing to the tmic and asking Does anyone remember jude, but
she doesn't remember getting any responses. I told her to give it a try again,
because we are answering and writing, but she doesn't respond to us.

She might have Dave set up the laptop tomorrow. I'm going to send her a note
and put something in the subject line so she recognizes me and opens my post.

Jude answered when I called on her home phone. I don't know if she uses the

addresses on her laptop. Maybe we can get her back to helping us with her

Hello Rev Craig and a big warm welcome! My name is Linda and I have had TM for
a little over 8 years. Lesions at C4, 5 6. Am able to get around with a
cane. You have received a lot of very good information and support from the
group, which is why we're all here - to share our experiences and offer support
to each other.

One thing I wanted to say. In the articles about TM a 2-year guideline has
been used in reference to recovery. I think many of us will agree that we are
still seeing improvements after many years. I certainly am, even though they
may seem small, they are huge to me.
Please keep posting so we know how you're doing. Bless you

I had multiple MRI's over a four day period plus nerve conductance tests and
another neuro test which showed the greatest impairment in my arms.

I was blessed with a doctor who told me nothing but the truth; that there is
no cure (yet) for TM and that only symptoms can be treated. And he gave me some
reading material to study. One of the articles said that 80% of those diagnosed
with TM end up needing a wheelchair. But I determined to be part of the 20%
that don't. After I broke my back 11 years ago and had a partial spinal cord
injury I was in a wheelchair for a bit over a year while I learned how to
walk again. So being in one does not worry me - I managed before and I'll
manage now. The hardest part was learning how to drive using hand controls.

Subject: [TMIC] OT - need prayers after seeing video will understand why

Yesterday my ex wife and daughters duplex went up in flames. It started in
their neighbors part, unknown origin as of right now as to the cause. Please
keep them in your prayers, Red Cross has them in a hotel for 5 days and then
they are on their own. It was a total loss, and that was their car too that was
melted to nothing. Both are disabled; Sara has auto immune like me, Sally my ex
wife lost 2/3's of her right lung and both breasts to cancer and they are
worried it is in her lymph glands. And now this... Life is cruel...

Oh Naomi this truly saddens me that you have these pressure sores and all the
special stuff that goes along with them. Boy, I'd be right there with you on
the claustrophobic anxiety attack. Lots of positive thoughts for a speedy
recovery coming your way. Please keep posting so we know how you're doing.
Bless you..Linda

Today, July 2, marks the five-year mark of being stricken with Transverse
Myelitis. I am celebrating it by being bedridden, nursing two pressure sores.
Have you ever tried lying on one side, for days at a time? It causes me to have
claustrophobic anxiety attack , but it is quite necessary to avoid flap surgery
:-(

  Have a Blessed Day, Naomi
