Re: [TMIC] Unidentified subject!
Dalton, I will be having my bone density test soon. I've had osteopenia since before TM and developed jaw bone problems after one of the early osteo drugs given to women years ago. I think that med was removed from the market and I have gently refused any of the new meds since. I'll have to make a decision again when my new PCP gets my report. However, I'll feel more comfortable discussing it this time, because I chose a female doctor who may also face the same decision as she ages. Keep us informed and if anything changes I'll post an update. My PCP suggested, after looking at x-rays, an MRI, and a bone density scan, that I try Prolia, an injection given in the Dr’s office every 6 months, for bone health. It is very pricy and the copay is stiff. Has anyone had experience taking any kind of osteo medicine, and what were the side effects? Re: [TMIC] Unidentified subject!
Everybody, I had the baclofen Pump inserted in June 2013. Before the pump could be inserted I first had to do a trial at the hospital to determine if the pump was right for me. My neuro felt that the banding in my legs is caused by spasticity and not weakness. The reason I went with the pump is because I could not tolerate taking baclofen orally. To cut to the chase .I am considering removing the pump because the dosage required to help the banding also has caused me to have heart palpitations, nausau and a feeling of bloatedness. In addition it has made me lose my appetite causing me to lose 30 lbs. This is after my doing all possible due diligence. Therefore even though the pump has somewhat improved my banding the side effects eliminate the positives. I have never really been bothered by banding - sometimes I can feel it, but really no problem. My worst problem is spondolosis/arthritis down low in my back that is aggravated by TM. Also, the never going down the backs of my calves. That can knock me to the floor when it hits. Otherwise, I'm pretty good. Dear Friends While things are so quiet, thought I would share with you the awful fright I suffered this week. I was aware of some discomfort in my back on Monday last, which quite quickly progressed to excruciating pain and difficulty even moving. I feared TM had taken another hit at me, this time further down my spine. Flat on my back, fearing the worst, it dawned on me that I could move my legs quite freely while prone and therefore could NOT be the b*d TM! The relief!! Total rest and anti-inflammatory medication have now seen a big improvement and I'm tending to think I did some damage hauling myself into my husband's Grand Cherokee when we went out on the Sunday. There's no chance he will swap his pride and joy for something more suitable so I've compromised ( as we women do) and ordered a step to assist - a tad undignified but, then, that went out the window when TM flew in! We had to do that too after TM struck to make room for wheel chair, walker, etc.It really is hard to get in if you are short and, I cannot boost since TM, so it makes it harder.I am assuming none of us can boost any more. What about it? Can any of you still boost? I wish you continued improvement with your back and whatever you did to it to hurt it - don't do it again. Hi Deb, I had no idea you were involved with TMIC in that capacity. I never knew that about you. Surprise, surprise! I am trying to get people involved with us and am struggling to come up with things to discuss. You say that you try to make sure that topics are not talked about over and over, but it's hard to come up with things that are new. What am I supposed to do. At least there are a few more people writing in now. Or is it only that I have just come back? Have people been writing back and forth that you know of? Please let me know. I appreciate your attention. Thank you, Jude, Midhigan In a message dated 1/25/2013 8:00:48 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, dnca...@gmail.com writes: Hi Jude, No, it has nothing to do with getting spammed. I live on the computer. I do all my work on the computer, I build computers, create the websites, proofread all the TMA articles, etc. I know how to get rid of spam. It is just a matter of hitting the delete button. I have been part of the original tmic list almost since the first emails started going back and forth, back in January, 1997. I have watched people sign up with the list, I have watched people die on the list, I have to talk to people with TM on the phone and internet every single day. That is part of my job. I also have met my closest and dearest friends because of the tmic list. I have monitored the list for 16 years. When there is objectionable material, I notify the proper people, and those emails are deleted so that others who may search the archives for information will not read the objectionable material. I also know that every time an infected email enters my computer (one that has a virus), it has come from somebody on the list who has had their address book hacked. So, when these emails come in to the list, we simply unsubscribe them from the list, so that they are unable to send any more emails to the list until they get their computers fixed. Once they realize that they have not received tmic list emails, it has probably been after they have removed their viruses, and they resubscribe. So, notifying everybody on the list is really just not necessary. I just know when to sit back and not get involved and have learned from my own personal bad experiences when to back off so as not to get insulted by people who think I am “butting in” too much. I also know that some of the same problems and issues that people are experiencing have been discussed and discussed over and over, and people neglect to take advantage of all the wealth of information that has been stored in the archives from all the previous email conversations over the past 16 years, and if they are not going to read all the valuable information, rather ask the same questions over and over on the list, why bother trying to explain again? Anyway, I am sorry that I have created such a long email, but I just wanted you to understand where I am coming from, and it has nothing to do with you, just “experience” has taught me to stay in the background. Some people on the list do not have their computers properly protected with anti-virus software, thus their computers are repeatedly hacked. Also, some people have the option marked “automatically add all people to address book”, so my email address gets entered into all these anonymous computers, and when they get a virus, I (and hundreds of other people) receive an infected email. If people wish to be on the internet, they should be responsible for protecting their own computers from these infections, and when one person sends an infected email to the list, suddenly about 20 people will send an email to the list that they need to ignore all messages sent by that one person because it is infected. So, I figure that eventually people will “get it” and I don’t

My right leg was/is weaker than my left also. I have had TM for over 3 years now and I know what you are saying when you feel one leg is shorter than the other.I don't think that is happening, but I catch myself feeling that way and then I really straighten up tall and the feeling goes away. I think we tend to lean one way or the other according to weaknesses.I try to always stand as straight as I can - especially when noticing the lean toward the right. Also, pain and weakness can be coming from the hamstring on the right side. Lots of stretching helps that. Hope I helped. RE: [TMIC] Unidentified subject!
Yes, I used to feel that way, I really did. However, I took about 3 years of Rolfing and or Massage Therapy treatments - and some of them were very painful. That really helped my legs feel and work better. In fact, I attribute my current ability to walk very well most days to all of the treatments I took. It did cost a bundle, and it did hurt a ton. However, now I don't have that feeling, I can walk quite well, and my right side seems to feel better. Although it has been 6 months since my last massage, and I can feel the thing in my body starting to reach it's tendrils out again and begin to strangle my leg and torso. Time to get going again on the massage thing. We have lost our best rolfer in town, and I am hesitant to try to find another - simply because the treatment is very intense and personal. Try massage, or as has been suggested already - stretching exercises; if you don't use it, somehow, you will lose it. Hi, My right leg is shorter since tm. It seems that while in rehab,I locked my left knee by hyperextending it. This caused it to stretch out the tendon and my left leg is now about 1 inch longer than the right. If they had given me a brace, this would not have happened. My left is the weaker leg, although if I'm walking it's the right one that gives. Cheryl in Easthampton,MA.

Hi Everyone, I was un-subscribed for awhile when we decided to run away to Mexico for a week last month and just got back on board today. I hope everyone is doing well. How is our Jude? (Make mental note to self to write her privately) It's very hot here today. Spring has not completely sprung here in Ventura, yet the heat of the summer is upon us with a vengeance as of yesterday. 99 degrees. I was SO looking forward to Spring... I hope it reappears soon. Terry is having some difficulties and at long last, gets his second (complete) shoulder replacement tomorrow. He is looking forward to it, but not the recovery as he will be down to one limb, (so to speak), until he has the mobility back in it. Hopefully he'll be pain free once he's recovered, too. I will keep you posted. As always, I am so glad you are in my life! Sandy Parker **Access 350+ FREE radio stations anytime from anywhere on the web. Get the Radio Toolbar! RE: [TMIC] (no subject)
Trudy, I just changed providers and clinics because of the nurse. I could not get return calls on labs, cultures, prescriptions, nothing I would be waiting all day for a call back and then when I would call at the end of the day, she hadn't even listened to her morning messages! I had to wait 6 months for Lamisil (yes, 6 months) where the fungus was 'in my system' per the provider and I was the one that had to take care of finally getting the insurance approval and all of the paperwork done that the nurse normally takes care of. Having been a lead nurse, this is totally unacceptable and lacks total patient care! I even tried to talk to the doctor but couldn't even get through to her! Not too many of us can pay for an office call just to go in and discuss a provider's incompetent nurse. SO frustrating!!! I had a horrible UTI which can be bad for a non-TM person but some of us can t even feel it when we have the symptoms so they often times will be really bad before we even know we have it! I made an appt. with the new clinic and one of the doctors from the first clinic saw me and when he said he would send a copy of the culture to Dayton, I quietly told him I was not going back. He looked up and asked me if I would mind telling him why and I did. I was very nice and explained the facts and he patted my hand and thanked me saying I was not the first to do this. I told him a nurse could make or break a provider which he agreed. He said he was going to have a 'closed door' talk with my provider when he got back to his clinic. WHEW!!! Was that a bit of venting, or what??? I even surprised myself!! Re: [TMIC] (no subject)
The reason I am curious about sarcoid is I got out my initial brain MRI from 6 years ago and it was one of the differential diagnosis. I have 9 spots on my brain and a lesion -T4-T5 in my spinal cord. Forty days in and still progressing the neuro finally put me on predinsone. It seemed to stop the progression. Sarcoid can come back. I have been on prednisone 2 times this year due to sinus infection that was making all my other problems worse. I felt great for about 3 weeks then slowly feeling worse. Just need to know whether there is a connection between all these cysts and my neurological problems. **New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. In February I had my yearly MRI and it showed severe sinus problems. Everything is blocked. The ENT put me on Prednisone and an antibiotic. It cleared up, but this summer I am having a lot of problems again. I am back on the same regimen again. My family Doc said something about getting the sinuses irrigated. I had some tests done last week and am waiting to hear from him. I get worried because I was having a lot of sinus problems when I first got hit with TM 6 years ago. Re: [TMIC] (no subject)
Although I am not sure if your doctor has more in mind or not, the Neti Pot is great. I have allergy induced asthma, and hate to take meds year around when I already take so much with my meds for my TM, so I only take my asthma stuff when needed. I am a proud Neti Pot user, and actually have gotten many to use it as well. We get a lot of pollen from our oak tree, and it seems to sit in my nose and throat and work it's way up into my sinuses. The Neti works so well, and you get some immediate relief. Even with a sinus infection, you get some relief right away. I don't know of any medication that will give you that. I highly recommend it, and hope it'll help you. Linda, I don't have the banding all the time. Mostly it is when I am tired, stressed, or not feeling well. Some times it is just there for no apparent reason but during those times it seems more tolerable than when I am tired, stressed, or not feeling well. I am T-4/ T-9 and early on, I didn't sweat in that range or below. That's pretty normal for paralysis. That is why it is so dangerous for para's and quad's to be out in the heat. We can't turn on the bodies air conditioner.(Sweat) That might explain the (greasy sensation) around the affected areas. I don't remember ever having that sensation. I do remember as my feeling was coming back I itched horribly. A nurse pored corn flower on me and that seemed to help? Anyhow, that's my two cents. Hope everyone has a beautiful day! Happy Spring! That is where my lesion is in my spinal cord. I also get a lot of tingling on the left side of that area. The grease line I was talking was actually a very greasy to the touch line . As the numbness was ascending so was the grease line. It was around my waist and moved upward until it stopped around T4-T5. Another strange thing I experienced was a few weeks in, I had to rub off a lot of dead skin on both legs. Very Weird! It doesn't sound like any one else had these things. Anybody have a problem with not sweating in affected areas? Linda in Pa Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home.

Hi Linda, I don't seem to sweat below my lesion at T8 - T10. I think that was mentioned on the TM Forum at one point and Marieke said that with spinal chord injuries a person doesn't sweat below the lesion. Thanks for the response. My feet are hot all the time!!! It is hard in the winter when I have to wear shoes. I could not wear a pair of heels to save my life. I have tried in the shoe store and have to hold on or I will fall over! I am so glad for the response, at least there is one other person who has the grease line, whatever it is. Hi, Linda! This is what makes this site such a wonder! I, too, have the greasy line' around the band but had never attributed it to anything! I have a real problem with full blown sweating above the T4 level right up to the top of my head which I had never had problems with before! Plus!! I have to lather lotions and creams on my legs and feet. Strange, huh? My left side is the very worse when it comes to spasms, coldness, and pain but it is by far the strongest. It was the first side to become paralyzed. The right side had hypersensitivity from the start and still has touch sensations but feels dead inside as the left side also does. The right side is also the one that drags. But when I drive it does come to the rescue as it controls the gas and brake. I rarely use the hand control. I did this for a year as I tried to return to work 40 miles away. Isn't that just amazing? I still feel like I am full of wet sand from the chest down even tho I can move around pretty well. I walk like a drunk so it's a good thing to carry a cane when we go somewhere otherwise I get funny looks and chuckles behind hands (that's true!)!!! It's too bad there aren't neurologists and providers reading all of our info They could sure benefit from it! Hello out there, Just had a question to ask. My first neuro was 77 years old. He talked about a grease line on my body. As the numbness crept up my body I could feel the line around me, but he never explained it to me. Anybody out there know anything about this? It took weeks before I got to my worst and never had any medication or IV therapy. Linda in Pa **Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home.
