Hi Guys, After an exchange of e-mails with Touch Support at Logitech today I received an e-mail from them containing this sentence: - "Unfortunately, we must inform you that your product is defective and a warranty exchange is needed." Thanks to all who spent time and grey matter trying to sort things out for me. Hi Dave. Sorry to hear that all these suggestions have not paid off. I ran out of ideas long ago. If still in warranty you should get logitech to replace the TOUCH. Hi Dave I've been offline for a while too...know how real life gets in the way :) Had an idea, not sure if you've tried it already... Reinstall the firmware. It sounds like your Touch is acting "out of character" and to me needs its brain wiped and started again. Just a thought..its what I'd do. Hi Guys, I've just about given up on this, hence my silence over recent weeks. I removed ALL references to Norton from my PC some time ago and it hasn't made the slightest difference. I've just e-mailed Touch Support asking them to have a look at it and fix it or replace it as it seems beyond redemption as far as I can see. No matter what I'm playing, tracks from my PC or internet radio, it continually defaults as far as the screen is concerned and eventually shows the digital clock, (as if switched off) with the music still playing. Beautiful SQ but annoying when you can't be sure what's playing. I have an iPod Touch on which I have installed the Logitech Squeezebox app which gets me over this problem in some ways but I'd much rather have a properly fully working SQBX Touch. Hi Phil & Gary, An interesting update for you. I'm now back from my holidays, browner but poorer. Since returning I have acquired over 600 24/96 and DVD-A tracks which I have put into their own library. Nothing else has been changed. My Touch re-scans this new library with no problems and the display does exactly what the display is supposed to display. Reverting to the previous (non Hi-Res) library leads the scan and display to revert to the earlier misbehaviour. This suggests to numptie me that the problem may not be Norton related but somehow related to some of the non Hi-Res files, but I know nowt!! Any thoughts guys? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Numptie Appeal for Help Please
Hi Phil, Thanks for coming back to me on this one. I'm now preparing to disappear on holiday until mid May and we have our 3 house cats and our son's Springer Spaniel to relocate in the next few days so PC time is going to be non-existent. Can we take a rain check on it until my return please? First thing I'll do is try and get rid of disc nos. using mp3Tag and let you know how I go on. Regarding the persistent anti-virus interference, my PC is relatively old and was originally supplied with XP Media Centre installed but that has in turn been 'upgraded' to Vista Ultimate and then to Win7 HE. Each installation has always had an anti-virus programme installed, which may have changed brands with some of the changes, so I'm wondering if some long forgotten vestige of one of these anti-virus programmes is still lurking around making mischief. The result of eliminating all non-FLAC files and then cleaning up the FLAC files and using mp3Tag to associate them with any missing cover art has now resulted in: - 1) my FLAC folder now consists of a list of 9,550 FLAC tracks, none of which are associated with any folders (albums), just a large collection of random single tracks. 2) the Touch screen has now defaulted to displaying information about a single track (Mary Black, Babes in the Wood, FWIW) which is frozen (nothing moves), irrespective of what's playing. 3) Win Explorer tells me I have 9,550 tracks in my FLAC AND foobarFLAC libraries but scanning either under Touch only shows 483, no matter how many times I repeat the excercise, 4) there are probably more idiosyncracies but I can't think of them ATM. Listening to music is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable but with my Touch it is just the opposite!!! - not a happy bunny !! Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Numptie Appeal for Help Please
Hi Gary, Thanks for your very helpful post above. This is just an update so that you know I'm not ignoring you :) . I've set about 'cleaning' the FLAC library using mp3Tag and it's proving very time consuming, to say the least. First I got rid of anything that wasn't FLAC. This left me with a little over 9,500 tracks and then I started associating cover art with each CD or individual track. I'm about halfway through them ATM. I don't know whether this is relevant but the screen 'lock up' or 'freeze' also occurs when listening to internet radio. First thing that happens is that the 'Now Playing' track info disappears, then the screen doesn't change when the programme changes, say on the hour, when another DJ clocks in, the screen continues to display. This cannot be due to the state of my FLAC library surely? Dave, re: mp3tag. Install the latest version (2.48b) from their website. http://forums.mp3tag.de/index.php?showtopic=57 After installing, use the attached zip file to "restore" settings. The zip file contains the settings I use (with some custom columns, etc. so I can see whether artwork exists, relative size of file, tag type, etc.). So by restoring mp3tag settings with this file, you'll also have all this (I think this will work, anyhow). You'll have to open mp3tag. Then point it to the directory that has your music. This will then load up all your music into the active window. (or you can select just certain subdirectories and load only those). Once in mp3tag active window you can click on the files and you'll see the tag info (right click>extended tags, shows you all the tags, and artwork). You can edit, delete, etc. This is a great program but there is a bit of learning curve. Go slow and try to do some basic things first (edit artist name, etc.). A lot of this you'll be doing one album at a time. This is the price one pays for acquiring random tracks from random placesmessy files! Plus, for all you know the FLAC files were encoded from 128kbs mp3 files! -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85697 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Agree. Post the server log, and it would be most useful if you can post the log just after the now playing screen failed, and knowing the file that it failed on would be helpful as well as Phil mentioned. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85697 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Hi Guys, If the attachement files aren't too big this post should have attached to it: - 1) the Scanner Log taken as soon as I noticed after the Touch screen defaulted to no cover art or Now Playing info. 2) the second (smaller) file with the .1 suffix was the result immediately after the above, after I'd 'Wipe & Rescan' the library. Hi Phil, I'll make a closer study tomorrow and let you know what I find about the default timing but, as it can happen at random at any point between a few seconds and a few hours, it might prove difficult. >From memory it does default around the point at which it changes tracks but I would not guess as to whether it's at the end of one or the beginning of the next. OK Now, can I just check that you have your Screensaver (on the Touch itself) set to "Now Playing" when playing? Finally, the next time it goes to the blank screen, you need to make a note of the file that is playing, and whether or not the track has started to play or is ABOUT TO START to play... in other words, do you see the artwork for that track at all or not. My guess is that the screen will go blank before the track starts to play. If this does happen, the cause will be something about the artwork on that track that it doesn't like. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... I've had a look at the current version of the scaner log BUT, curiouser and curiouser, although I haven't done another scan since I posted the last one, this one sems to be different in that it relates ONLY to today - what the heck's happening. Sorry about the .txt file but, unzipped, it exceeds the maximum permitted by the forum, and the forum won't accept a.rar file and, having downloaded and installed WinZip, that won't co-operate either, so I can't offer any version ATM - sorry. Also, FWIW, after about a dozen or so tracks my Touch screen has defaulted further, to the 'Off' screen of the digital clock, but the music keeps on playing. Again, FWIW, if I press the 'Next' button (right pointing double arrowhead), for about a second or two the screen scrolls the track info across the full but no cover art - it does not do this when it 'naturally' comes to the end of the track and moves on to the next Random selection.
