It’s been a while since I’ve used BibDesk, but I think the greeted-out fields
are those not defined as required for the record type. I think there’s a
preference for that.

Apropos these comments, I wanted do a release last week, but my laptop had a

No, there's no way to do that.
You can work around this by putting the remote url's in the annote field. Not
perfect, but it will make it that BD will not look online when you open the
