feeders at the main building of Bark Lake. We arrived at 3:30pm and the bird

Just a follow-up on this mega-rarity.
A few of us watched the Black-throated Sparrow right up till sunset. It seemed
to stay along the fence line behind (east of) the covered picnic area for the
time I was there (6:15 to sunset around 7), at around 6:50 or so it flew to the
line of
(sometimes coming out onto a grass strip
between tilled fields).

Along Lakeshore Rd right in front of Glenn’s place in the Cedars along the east
side of the property. We lost it in the cedars. Seen with Mike Burrell, Mike

Thickson’s Woods is at the south end of Thickson Rd off Hwy 401 in Whitby
patience may be required as the
birds get hidden behind mounds of dirt in the field.
This is off Ravenshoe Road, west of Leslie Street near where it dead ends,
between an orange and white barn and a brown brick house.

The King City Trail is north of King Road and runs west off
the Pacific Loons - Look for a gleaming silvery-white nape, black throat
and dark body with significant amounts of white on the back. Careful with many
(over 150) Common Loons that are in various states of moult.

There is a Peregrine Falcon that has been patrolling the area for at least
5 days and causing the bird to hunker down. I was there for about 10
minutes and the Willet stayed with it's bill tucked into it's back for
almost the entire time.

Gowling Terrace is found off James Snow Parkway just north of Derry Rd. Enter
west off James Snow at Waldie Ave and turn left on Kearns Drive, you will see
the fenced off area of the pond on your left - Gowlin

In the bit of open water at the intersection of McKinnon Rd & Concession 2
were a few Common Goldeneye, 2 male Ring-necked Ducks and a couple of Black
Ducks among the Canada Geese.

My brother and I just had the Mississippi Kite circling over the north side of
Hillman Marsh CA (looked like it was over Mersea Rd 2 which runs across the
north end of the conservation area), we had good views of its long, thin grey
body and wings with darker primary feathers.

This morning at 10:20 my daughter, Alexa, and I saw the male Painted Bunting in
the backyard of #33 Arkendo Drive with a few other birders. The bird came into
the cedar hedge first and then flew out to feed on seed laid out on the yard,
in plain sight.

With the advantage of having parents with a cottage in the county I was able to
leisurely wait for the Chuck-will's-widow to start calling tonight. At 9:20 my

My brother and I just had the Franklin's Gull fly over our heads and around the
3 southerly ponds at the Blenheim Sewage Lagoons and then kept flying off to
the south. We watched it for several minutes noting the dark grey mantle,
black wingtips, darkish underwing with white
Gray Gnatcatcher, Nashville & Yellow-rumped Warblers and a cooperative
Northern Waterthrush. Also here were Veery and a few Hermit Thrushes.
Earlier at G Ross Lord Park (Dufferin & Finch in NW Toronto) I had a male
Eastern Bluebird and a Lincoln's Sparrow amongst other birds.

My place is on Miles Hill Crescent, in the area of Yon
1 or 2 birds for a couple (or more) years now, and have
reported up to 4 birds (1 definitely a young bird last year as it was
calling to the parents as it flew over), very good evidence of nesting so
close to the city, and in fact within the normal 50km circle of the GTA.

I decided to head out to the Currie Tract and try for this Prairie
Warbler. The bird sang as soon as I hit the clearing, just after
having passed two birders leaving the area who had not found the bird.

Exit 509 off Hwy 401, south to Brighton, turn right on Hwy 2 and follow signs

he west of the marsh as well as a very late
evening (5:15pm, when almost dark) Long-eared Owl which flew out from the east
side of the road near the north walkway and out over the field to the west of
Hall's Rd.

DIRECTIONS
Scarborough/Pickering townline marsh - from Hwy 401 in Pickering, exit at
White's
Islands Nature Area) but couldn't find any Lesser
Black-backed Gulls there (I'm sure they're around) although I did have 1 First
Year Thayer's Gull. There were probably less than 100 Bonaparte's Gulls below
the falls, there were 2 Common Loons down there as well.

until it dove on a gull, at which point I lost the bird.
I then travelled to Cranberry Marsh and had the oft-mentioned first year
Golden-crowned Sparrow. What a day, two life birds!!

High Park's "Hawk Hill" is located at the north side of the Grenadier
Restaurant Parking lot. The entrance to High Park is located south off Bloor
Street just west of Keele/Parkside, in Toronto.

"Sobey's" Pond is in south Whitby, along Victoria Street (runs parallel to Hwy
401, to the south). The small pond where the bird has been hanging out, is
just north of Victoria, off
Hi All,
I went up to the Hwy 60 corridor yesterday (Monday October 11), only arriving
around 1pm, nothing really uncommon but may be of interest to others.
At the airfield no Le Conte's Sparrows but did have 27 Horned Lark, 1 Lapland
Longspur, 2 Savannah Sparrows, and 25+ Black Ducks, also had
an Coots & 1 male
Ring-necked Duck. Very few shorebirds here, but amongst them were 2
Sanderling, 5 Lesser Yellowlegs, a few Least & Semipalm. Sandpipers and many
Spotted Sandpipers.

DIRECTIONS:
Cattle Egret, mentioned above, the area is along H-N
few shorebirds including 2 Semipalmated
Plover, 5 Semipalm. Sandpiper & 4 Least Sandpiper plus 3 or 4 Spotted
Sandpipers, also a Black-crowned Night-Heron flying over.
