During the NF CBC, our group (John Black, Denys Gardiner, Philip Downey, Jean
Hampson Bob Highcock) viewed an adult male King Eider from Jones Beach in
Port Weller East (St. Catharines). The adult male was amongst some Common
Mergansers near the red and white beacon at the entrance

While sitting in H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park on Lake Erie earlier this afternoon,
Jean and I observed an American White Pelican. The pelican appeared from behind
the south wall of the marina and flew westward. It landed in Gravelly Bay for a
moment then continued flying westward.

A male King Eider, found by Brian Ahara and Manley Baarda on February 16 , can

A male Harlequin Duck, first reported on an eBird alert yesterday, can still be
found in the same location (Port Weller-St. Catharines). Jean and I spotted it
today, sitting with three female Buffleheads at the far end of the east spit.

Earlier this afternoon (approximately 2:00 p.m.), Jean and I observed an adult
Pomarine Jaeger along the Lake Erie shorline while birding at Morgan's Point
C.A. The jaeger was flying eastward and continued eastward towards the city of
Port Colborne.

Earlier today, Jean and I were birding at Mud Lake Conservation Area in Port
Colborne. We hiked the Blue Heron Trail and nearing the conclusion of our walk
(approximately 4:30 PM) we heard the 2-noted call of a Sora coming from the
edge of the lake (below the trail). We then

Beacon Harbourside Best Western Inn in Jordan at 2:00 pm this afternoon. The

the blowing snow and lack of observations of the Black-throated Gray at
Bayfront Park in Hamilton. We returned to our car for lunch. From the car, Jean

Weller to search for the Snowy Owl and the King Eider. Same result as Norm
Murr's post, no Snowy Owl or King Eider after birding along the East Pier for 2

Jean and I observed the first winter Franklin's Gull, upriver from the
Queenston boat ramp, earlier this afternoon. We walked along the trail from the
upper parking area to an open area overlooking the river from the Canadian
side. We observed the gull circling above the
Shrike on 10th Road East at 12:30 PM. It was perched
atop one of the small trees on the west side of the road, north of the railway
tracks. It was flying from tree to tree while we observed it, eventually
disappearing from our sight.

Jean and I observed the White-winged Crossbill in Fonthill at the address
indicated below. Within seconds of arriving, we observed the bird on a
beautiful sunny afternoon at 5:00 PM.

Trumpeter Swan earlier this evening at 5:00 PM (Jan. 5). It was located on the
west side of the harbour at Port Dalhousie in St. Catharines. Tag number C14.

Heading south from St. Catharines on Hwy. 406, exit at Regional Rd 20 (Hwy.
20). Head west into Fonthill. Turn right at Pelham St. After approximately 1
km, Pelham St. becomes Hollow Rd at the curve. Continue along Hollow Rd until
of Lakeshore Road (3:00 PM).

Directions: Take the QEW toward Fort Erie. Exit at Central Avenue (RR 124) exit
toward Duty Free Way. Keep left at the fork to continue toward Central
Ave/Regional Road 124. Turn
Merganser, Long-tailed Duck, and many Common Goldeneyes.
At the end of Green Road we had close views of White-winged Scoters. Surf
Scoters were seen further out in the lake.
