Mark Ansell and I birded from Port of Newcastle to Presqu'ile and back again
today. Highlights included a male Barrow's Goldeneye at Presqu'ile from the
lighthouse viewing station. On Lakeshore road running from the Port of
Newcastle to Port Hope we came across numerous flocks of Snow Buntings

club in Parc Riverain (say 50 metres north of the tennis club). This may well

Strathcona Park this morning (Tuesday) around noon. He could be seen equally
well from the Tennis Club side along River Road North. He was with about

Yesterday while taking part in the Toronto CBC, I found an orange-billed
female Goldeneye near the Hanlan's Point ferry docks on the Toronto
Islands. I was unsure of species at the time, but after some research, I
have concluded that it was a Barrow's. I don't have photos, but will be

An adult male Barrow's Goldeneye was present at the bottom end of the rapids at
Strathcona Park at 2:30pm this afternoon. It was actively feeding with 13
Common Goldeneye and 6 Hooded Mergansers. A scan of the same area on Monday,
Nov. 1st, produced only 6 Hooded Mergansers.

Three adult male Barrow's Goldeneye were present at the bottom end of the
rapids at Strathcona Park at 4:30 pm this evening. Also present were roughly
40 Common Goldeneye. I have yet to tease out a female Barrow's at this
location this fall.

This afternoon (ca. 4:30) a male Barrow's Goldeneye was feeding a few hundred
yards north (downstream) of the 417 bridge over the Rideau River. This the
only Barrow's I could find with ca. 140 Goldeneye and several Common Mergansers
between that bridge and the next bridge (Cummins) downstream.
South-eastern Ontario birders:

Goldeneyes this afternoon east of the hydro power plant with the two
tall towers along highway 33 (Bath Road), opposite number 6707 Bath

Photographed a male Barrow's Goldeneye in the Ottawa River near Britannia
Woods yesterday afternoon. Today we saw dozens (possibly 75-100) American
Robins on side roads northwest of Merrickville - many were on the road edge
in areas where the snow had melted.

The male Barrow's Goldeneye was present this evening from the previously noted
location off Centennial Park in Washago. At 5:35 p.m. I found the bird swimming
in the open water amongst the Common Goldeneye. As stated in the previous
posting by Karl Konze, the goldeneye do not start
I spent 3 hours Friday evening looking for the Barrow's, and at 7:00pm finally
scoped him in open water half way between the Quetton St bridge and Green
Island. There's a lot of open water in the area now, which I was told by
fellows birders has opened up recently, which made him hard to access.

Sombra. It is associating with a flock of approx. 20 Common Goldeneye.

There's a drake Barrow's Goldeneye in a raft of Greater Scaup on the east
side of East Point Park in Scarborough. The raft is slowly drifting
east. To get to the park, head south down Beechgrove and follow the turn
east toward the treatment plant. Head south to parking lot and walk to the

This morning I had a Barrow's Goldeneye in the Ottawa River at Petrie
Island. He was hanging out with Common Goldeneyes. There were also

This bird was reported two evenings ago on eBird. I arrived at about 4:30pm
today to look for it. It is not worth arriving before 5:15pm though because
some time after that the Goldeneye started streaming in from the north in

Headed out to get the male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE that I somehow missed last
weekend and found it easily, 100m to the west of LaSalle marina doing courtship
displays. Also, in close at the boat launch was a winter plumaged HORNED GREBE
