The fact is, it can be disabled, as I have done so on several occasions, both

There's a checkbox that you must check or uncheck, I forget which when that
dialog box pops up. Just tab around to it, and, if it's checked, uncheck
it, and unchecked, check it.
Either way, the opposite of that checkbox will stop the dialog box from
popping up.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Windows 98 will only recognize
external drives formatted as FAT, and not NTFS.
I'm also quite certain that it will not recognize anything over 1 gigabyte.

They have an MP3 Restore Tool that you can download and install for free,
