Well, this is not fully true. Some clients do not own CF
server but they have a windows server that already has IIS
which in turn already has ASP. 9 out of 10 clients will
prefer to us ASP since they do not have
: Dot.net stuff
So I can only speak about what I have seen and I have seen only one buy
CF
server because we showed them how they can benefit from its use.

For example, we've switched part of our dev to perl and I'm
stunned at how much faster this language is than cf on the
execution!Sure its a bit slower to develop in but if I get
a site that needs huge thruput, I'll strongly consider doing
it in perl.So basically

So if you know you can design the application in ASP in the
same amount of time you could do it in CF then the client
would most likely pick the path
CF versus PHP versus .Net versus ASP ...
PLEASE people ... I thought we all decided that we all use the best tool

Some of us specialize in CF and make quite a handsome living with it,
others do the same in ASP ... PHP ... whatever floats their boat.

Erika,
This isnt an argument of which is best (We all already which is :) ) it is a point that customers are NOT always informed of all the facts.. So therefore many developers/customers belive that because something is simply free to put on the server.. it's is the solution.
While I do agree
