Hi. I was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram of what it takes to convert from an external voltage regulator alternator, to a alternator with an internal regulator??
also is there any good or bad to convert to a "1" wire alternator???
and what kind od re-wiring is needed for this?
Thanks!!
Just get yourself an internal regulator, take off the voltage regulator that is on the radiator support and jump the plug. There are 4 pins on the plug. Jump 1 to 3 and 2 to 4. You could also get a little kit from MH that costs about $25.
Tom
Check out the madelectrical.com web site. Mark explains the advantages/disadvantages
of alternators, and he sells kits to convert external to internal.
Hope this helps, it did help me.

Question: Changing over to a CS130 alternator on my 1972 Monte Carlo,
the Chevelle tech article mentioned using one for a 1988 Olds Firenza,
the 3 listed for this car won't work. Has anyone made this swap on a
1972 vehicle or does anyone have any ideas which alternator will work?
Thanks.
Fellas,
I just installed a new 1 wire alternator on my
car.
But here's the thing... when the car is running,
the voltage at the battery doesn't increase, its as if the alt. is not
charging..
it should jump to 14.5 at the battery, but all I
get is whatever voltage the battery was at before
Dan
try unhooking the alt from the battery and start it up and use a meter to
test the alt to ground
if you see the 14.5 that would mean your batt is shorted internally.

After putting my 396 engine
in my car I found that the alternator did not have a plug on the side of
it. It only has one wire to connect to. I would like to replace with
the right one. Is there anything special that I have to look for to find
the correct alternator. Thanks

The other connector you need to connect has 2 wires one blue other white. Once
you find it, check the orientation of the contacts. Are they like this: -- or like
this: = . One is for internal regulated other for external.Unless your 69 has been
modified you need an external
rotated 180 degrees to get them to fit.

You cannot put an internal regulated Alternator in a car that was wired
for an external regulated , that is why you are reading so many volts .
However ther is a kit to covert the wiring ,it takes 2mins to do . YEAR
ONE sells it part #HU30 goes for $13.95 .Call 1-800-932-7663
