NOT true... I went from ground level to CCNP in five months w/o equipment.
ALL it takes is a good memory..common sense..do enough reading to UNDERSTAND
some theory..having equipment would have made it sooo much easier BUT
anything is possible if you have the motivation!!

This is not true, as I finished by CCNP without benefit of a router. I did
purchase a 2901 to study with, but ended up using it more for LAN parties
than studying.
If you study the material and understand the concepts, most of othe CCNP
exams have a "choose the correct command from the list", so
CDP.

The reason is that the prescribed rituals must be performed in front of the
Router.
Without a Router the powerful spirit of routing, BGPOSPF, wont bless your
efforts and even if you do pass all knowledge will be removed
