I'll second Brad's opinion... the CID test was *very* ambigous on a few
questions... I think test writers create questions on certain subject areas
and they know what subject areas they are pulling from when writing it, but
you don't taking the test... I had one question that was completely,
I think that most people fail to understand that the
CID exam is perhaps the most unique of the series.
There is no practicality, and, while I was
disappointed with the age of the exam, I thought that
it opened the door to the design world better than the
technical exams - routing, switching, etc.
Will Cisco be rewriting the CID exam soon? I notice that the CCDP 2.0 list
still includes CID 3.0 640-025.
The test is ancient, and many of the questions were written to certify
instructors. (I have inside information on this! ;-) Some of these
questions miss the mark for people who won't be teac

prepare for everything. If you have taken the CID course the exam covers all

Really, I got around 80%, but CID make me spent
almost 2 hours (compare with CMTD- 20 minutes and 990 got).
I used Cisco Network design & Case Studies- but during the exam I felt
it is quite weak to give you some conceptual facts on Token Ring and SNA,
in other questions I have had to refres ACRC
Studied CID course manual reviewed, highlighted and made notes (wrote down what I
highlighted) for 16-24 hours of total studying.

If you pass CID and DCN then you have a pretty good start towards the CCIE
written. Most of the written exam is conceptual, as opposed to knowing

Typically there seems to be a six month delay from the
end of a beta to the retirement of a test, but there
is no rule. The new CID test (beta) was very bad and I
hope Cisco takes some time to correct it before its
release. The old test was poor, but was at least

Read all questions carefully. Don't be discouraged by the couple of
questions for which there is no right answer. Concentrate on protocol
behaviors as determined by Cisco - TCP, routing protocols, desktop - meaning
netbios and IPX, with maybe a smattering of Appletalk. Those three areas
cover 75%
As Chuck has suggested. Read all questions carefully. This will be the
most obscure exam you will probably sit to date. Make sure you study hard
and give this exam more respect than any of the CCNP exams. Good luck.
P.S. you can go back so mark the dodgy questions and go back at the end.

objective list prior to the date that you have stated. While there are some

Your book is fine, give it a fast read including the appendix. Not a lot of
design questions on the test. A good solid cross section of everything is on
the test. I took it on July 24th, 755 was passing at that time. Review SNA

Simple pre-sales level stuff on 'stratacom' is all I remember having to
know. Number of slots, backplane, etc. You will do better in your search
on CCO if you search 'wan switching' instead of stratacom.
As usual, pay special attention to anything that has been EOL for a couple
of years now ;-)

I personally took the CID beta a while ago and I'm not sure if they made it
into the new exam.. I personally thought the CID beta was harder than the
CCIE written and just as encompassing. Nowhere near as bad on rif type
stuff though.
