Good comments Mike!
Khalid, another you might want to do is to mount your Cat5K (assuming you
have one) at the bottom of the rack, with the rack kit placed on the cat5k
as far forward as possible. This will make your cat5k extend pretty far
back. Push the rack all the way back against a wall
Unless you live in an area prone to earthquakes I see no need to fasten the
rack to the floor. Obviously, put any heavy gear near the bottom. A
rack-mount UPS would be ideal. Even something like a 7000 router is balanced
for telco rack mount. I have used Chatsworths with roller wheels in wiring
3/4 in plywood makes a pretty good base.. If you use *carriage* bolts, there
will not be anything sticking down from the bottom. The smooth head is
underneath and the nuts would be on top.
I would consider using that and then running a mount to the ceiling to help
keep things from rocking back an
I bought a Chatsworth Rack for my routers and switches but unfortunately I
cannot screw the bolts into my wooden floor. I was thinking about using a
piece of wood for the base. My question is does anyone have a setup similar

1. Should one spend money on setting up a home-lab. If so, then what are the

would it not be better then to buy their Rack time as well, since their racks

Stopped by my local Washington area Home Depot & picked up a set of screws
for the remaining 2500's I need to rack. The non-Cisco version of the rack

I need a set of rack mounts for one of my Cisco 2500's for my lab rack.
Anyone know a cheap place to buy them?

I liberated a full-size rack from work, so now I have a half-size rack I'd
like to get rid of. It's meant to hang from the wall and hold a bunch of
gear -- this isn't one of those cheap racks from Musician's Friend. It's
all steel, and I have no interest in tearing it

eachother with books in between. I also made sure to leave the space
underneath the fan open for circulation.

The best deal that you'll probably find is on ebay. I bought an 8U rack off
ebay for 29.95. Here was the link

The guy who sells them isn't selling any at the moment, but I'm sure he will
be in the future.
