Ever since I upgraded to 12.X I have been unable to get them logging again
to the syslog daemon on my server. Other things are logging fine so I know
theres no problem with it. It did work fine with 11.X, I've searched CCO and
can't find anything I didn't already know.

I don't know what your problem is getting it to work on Sun but if you go
out to winfiles.com they have some freeware syslog servers "Kiwi Syslog
daemon" that you can setup on 95/NT.. and the router config would be the
same as in the below link.

Without more info it's difficult to know what your problem is. However,
nine times out of ten, I've seen people forget to create the syslog file
first on their UNIX workstation. You need to "touch" the file before the
router can write to it.

Well I am stumped.
The lines in the syslog from an "access-list 150 permit ip any any log"
are not returning the port numbers, just a zero. This makes it very
difficult to diagnose a traffic flow. This is being run on a 2500 series
router with I think it was 12.07(T) IOS.

Check out your /etc/rc.d/init.d/syslog. When it starts up

Although I have not used the syslog function of this app, the 3com app is
pretty cool too. Unfortunately, it only runs on Windows, but combines a
FTP/TFTP server and client, as well as a syslog server. Not shabby..and free!

Cisco syslog can be directed at *any* syslog deamon. NT and *nix come with
syslog deamons, but you can add one to other OSes, too. I did a quick look
on Tucows and found one that will run on XP. You can check it out at
http://www.kiwisyslog.com/products.htm. And it's freeware. (No
I use Winsyslog (www.winsyslog.com). Great product and outstanding support.
It's not free, but the features and extras are well worth the money.

I use Kiwisyslog, it works great for me, they have several other useful
utilities on their website including Cattools which can be scheduled to save
router configs periodically.
