It's not a fix, but I used to start my 1GM with a hand crank back in

Yes, probably the starter. It could be a couple of repairable things

are pretty easy to replace and the commutator can be polished up. The
circuit between the brushes and commutator needs to be solid for the

Hey everyone.
My Yanmar 1GM10 is slowly getting more and more difficult to start. With full
battery charge, good ground and contact, I'm finding the only way to get the
starter to spin is to give quick taps to the start button. If I hold it, it
just saps the power system and everything shuts do

I replaced all of my overhead panels with FRP. It’s used for shower stalls and

Not quite the same size, but my 26 has had Lewmar 16ST's on the combing for about 4 seasons now. I sail with a 135 on a roller furler. Sheets are Yale PhD. Works perfectly according to my foresail trimmer.Definitely don't need a 2 speed unless you're not very good at tacking. SamC&C 26 Liquorice
My 25 has Barient 22 2-speed primaries. 16s seem pretty small for your 27.
One speed 16s were the winches on the Rhodes 19 daysailors I used to sail
out of Burnham Harbor in Chicago.
The Power ratio for the Barient 22 is reportedly 39, and the chart I have
shows the Harken, Lewmar, and Anderson 40
Your current winches are probably Barient 18s, at least that is what was
original on my boat.
I looked long and hard at the Anderson 28st winches and I agree that they are
a good fit for the C&C27.
A Barient 19st is pretty much an 18 that is self tailing, but almost
impossible to find now.
Didn't have a big enough hammer so that's next.

Hi Listers,
I'm seriously considering replacing the current (I assume factory
standard) Barient single-speed winches. I'm not at the boat at the
moment, I think they are 16s. Anyway, I am looking at the Anderson 28ST
(two speed, self tailers). Is the 28 too big, too small, what do you

After you get done flogging on the fitting it will probably be a chunk
of junk metal. You might save yourself aggravation by R/R the fitting.

Joel - Bigger hammer? I don't mean to be flippant, but sometimes just
banging the living heck out of something with a hammer really works. I
keep a huge (like the biggest I have ever seen) flat blade screwdriver
on board. I've had deck fittings stick, and the spanner wrench just

Bent one side of the spanner. It slips out unless there is a lot of
pressure (a foot) on it. There was nothing unusual looking, so I did not
take a photo.

Listers,
I've purchased a bunch of lights (LED under-kitchen-cabinet ones) to be

prefer to go with something white instead of the teak-like ones that Ken has.

The aluminum waste deck fitting is stuck. Even with a good spanner wrench
I could not budge it. I sprayed PB Blaster on it. If the O ring is good,
the Blaster may not penetrate. I thought of drilling holes, inserting
bolts and using a breaker bar and buying a new cap.
Other less drastic ideas?
