Um, Roku didn't even support WPA last I looked. Or 802.11g. WEP and
802.11b only.
WPA/TKIP hasn't been broken (yet).
WEP is trivial to break.
If you are willing to accept degrading your entire network to 802.11b

Yes but that would be no fun... The whole idea is to let MusicMagic
generate a mix and, within a few clicks and a few seconds, have this
playlist playing on my SB2...
Resanning everything is understandably slow in my case but doing a
"rescan playlists" should take only seconds with a single playlist of
10 songs...?

You mean Slim's lack of WPA2-AES support!!! As far as I can tell

I have been having similar problems with slow and sometimes unreliable
scans.
Re-Scanning is generally slow for me since I access the drive from an
NAS.
However I delete and rescan everytime I add songs because often times
the scan only (no delete) option do not register the changes.

I know there is a way for SlimServer to use MusicMagic directly from
the Squeezebox but is there a way to specify that the MusicMagic server
is actually located on a different box? (such as SS on Linkstation and
MMM on a WinXP PC?)

There is a setting as well that controls how often SlimServer checks for
changes in the iTunes XML file, you may want to increase it. Otherwise
the first change in iTunes triggers a rescan, but since you are still
changing things in iTunes it will start again as soon as the rescan
finishes.

Every time this has happened to me, it is because a song outside of that
directory had the same 'Album' tag.
Ie, something was either mistagged or it's a common album name like
'Unplugged' or 'Best of' or even Frank Sinatra: Trilogy vs the ELP
album of the same name.

When I turn on my SB3 with the computer that is running slimserver
turned off, the SB3 looks for slimserver, and when it cannot find it,
turns itself off. Is this normal behavior? It seems to me that I should
be able to turn the SB3 on to access squeezenetwork without the computer
running.
