For me it's all over the place. Most pre-release versions have been slow
as a glacier. It's been frustrating. But the one I have running right now
is actually faster than 1.x. So I can hope that it's some sort of
debugging code that is slowing it down.

Yes, there is a round-about way to do that. You can paste the chart on an
OOoDraw document, and /then/ export it to PNG. Make sure the graph is
selected when you do the export (so you don't export the entire page by
mistake).
