I do it that way myself ... each K3 (+P3) has an RS-232 A/B switch on
it. The computer serial port has an A/B/C/D switch that connects to
each of the A/B switches, the programming cable for the XG3 and for
now the LP-100 (but normally my general purpose test port).

In normal use the microHAM unit is in-between the PC and the K3 or if
there is a P3 it is PC - P3 - K3. BUT when having to do FW update to
the P3 or K3 or screen capture off the P3 the PC needs to be connected
directly to the P3 or K3.

It was a solder connection on the low pass filter board. When the ATU
pushed a bit on the LPF board, the power took a dip.
I re-soldered the two 2-3 junctions on the LPF.
The power is constant now, about 3.6 or so on 7 thru 14
and about 4.1 on 80M with the tuner in or out.

Yes, you can, but you will only be able to hear the other stations if you are on
CW using QSK. It won't work on phone, because both RX's will mute when the rig
is keyed in the voice and digital modes.

Not my experience. For over five decades, I have used #18 wire for many
antennas. Current antenna has segments of #18 with no ill effects at 1.5kW

What Antenna are you using? Not only the balun needs to be rated for your
power but the coils and wire does too. Many mfgrs overrated their equipment.
For 500 watts use kw rated antennas. RG 213 is good but wire and loading need
to be #14.

Okay, some more info. The KPA500 does not have a problem with the inverted
vee for 40 meters, but I will set it up with a dummy load to check just in
case. And I will try the dummy load at the antenna end of the coax as a test
tomorrow.
The antenna is the new Q-52 2 element yagi five band from N6B
I hate to say this but cable experts does not have a stellar record with
their installed connectors. I would cut them off and install new ones.

My bet will be on a bad connection someplace after the amp. With power
something is shorting ... could be in coax connector, antenna, etc ... been
through that. Once had found an elevated radial on 160 inverted "L" had

My first guess is that it is not the coax, but attach a dummy load to
the antenna end of the coax to test it under full power just to be certain.
The most likely thing is that something in your antenna system is arcing
at the higher power. End insulators? Vegetation touching the antenna

Been using the Field Day software with a K-3 connection with no problems for a
few years. Might be something to do with the fact that it is running on Win NT!

I have the extra usb vga card working well to deliver the W4P3 prog via
Eliphan vga grabber, to the original viewsonic screen at suggested 1440
x 900 resolution, which fills the screen nicely and matches suggested P3
setting.
However it doesn't compare to the clarity of the direct connection 19
Hi Adrian, I did that last night and it was picking it up, this morning I've
been comparing it with the Desktop PC and there is no difference between the
two as far as I can see, the listings are identical, so it should work.
I might give it another go later, we are going out in a moment, so I'll

I too went back to the older version. I was having loading problems and
system (win7-64) errors when starting it. Contacted N2BC and he had me
download a newer version - it loaded OK, but caused other problems with
the system.
Uninstalled it completely and installed the old version and all is f

Lbuntu is the light version of Ubuntu which as it doesn't have the glossy
graphics heavy Desktop. I haven't tried it on the Desktop PC as it means

all! I don't know the difference between Ubuntu and Lbuntu, but perhaps
David Fleming does (he coded the K3 Utility for Linux).
