Got it! It was suggested in an email that I install an old version of
HRD. I did that (5.24.xxx) and sure enough - all is working just fine now.
Question is:

The KX3 is 'officially' supported with HRD version 6.2, I believe. If you're
running any of the 5.x releases, you're actually running as a K3 since the 2
command sets are so similar. Both K3 and KX3's button mapping has improved
with 6.x, too.

rebooted. That resolved the incorrect "worked" markers I was experiencing.

I also had the problem with DM780 freezing the machine. Actually, the
problem was traced to the serial/USB interface that I was using.
Specifically, the Proset chip set was used in that interface, which is

I have always had a problem with the K3/HRD Cluster interface regarding band
switching. If I select a DX spot for a different band, the K3 'clicks' and
momentarily show the new band/frequency on the VFO, but then immediately
returns to where it was. If I am already on the band there is no problem.
David, I upgraded to the new HRD last week. I'm running a K3 and a KPA500 and
also a SteppIR vertical. All are working just fine with the newest version of
HRD. No issues at all. I'm running the same configuration as you, different com
port but that shouldn't matter.

If you are talking about rig control you have to run HRD. When you first
run it you will get a connection screen. Set up your COM port there and
connect.
Then in DM780 for PTT you probably want to click connect through HRD. When
the Radio window is open in DM780 click connect.

I think I can prevent this with a change to K3 firmware. If so, I'll

If you get a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) then it's the driver for the
Prolific cable which must be updated, only drivers can cause a BSOD and with
