Pacer,
Thanks for the advice below, but it didn't work. I've given up calling
it Guest and decided to name it Visitor, making the password
guest. This worked fine. As far as limiting use, the only thing I'm
concerned about others seeing is my home folder, which is inaccessible
when logged

When I installed my HD in my G4 400 PB, I also

Then I found a disk utility on the 10.3.8 install DVD

Then it was recognized and I was able to reinstall the

I'm reasonably sure that a *brand new* battery should charge in its
intended PowerBook without any major glitches in the process.
Your new batteries could be bad. Mine were.
I went through two brand new batteries that would not charge. From two
different vendors.
On my Wallstreet, I have had 3

The University of Wisconsin Stout requires you rent a PC from them even if
you have your own computer at $500 each semester.
You can only rent a Mac iBook if you are a Art's Major and you have not say
so in this at all.

connect with their own PC or mac to a large network like that.

Sounds like a great reason to find another school. My law school recommends
a Dell laptop, but visit any lecture hall and you will see just about

My guess is that Stout get these Compac laptops by the truckload for almost
nothing and then rents them for two years to the tune of $2,000, giving the
school about a $1,000 profit.
My daughter got one of these PC's and it was last years model that I could
have purchased outright for $800 or less
This isn't a recommendation at Stout, you must rent the computer from them
and the fee is hidden in your book fees which you have to pay as part of
your tuition.
The first year they had this policy, they had the laptop fee out in the open
as a separate charge, but they got so many complaints,

Yes -- so let's find a nice new home for this iBook!
In case anyone is wondering, I am at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute. There is actually a decent number of Macs on
campus, but I'd primarily need the engineering applications, and VPC
is simply way too slow. I would love to keep the iBook,
The Tiger update fee is only $9.95 + tax, shipped free, so the wait is marginal.
