I've checked that issue, because I have a Sony Monitor. It seems that only the Pismo can use an external monitor with the LCD OFF. When the PowerBook startup, close the lid and the notebook will use the external monitor, but the Lombard goes to sleep, so the only choice is reduce dimming on the LCD
