I am usually not that critical of coaches, but I'm putting all the problems
this year on Urban Meyer. He's the one who hired the coaches, he assigns
them to their areas of coaching, he made the final decision on who got
scholarship offers, etc..
I was listening to Pat Dooley on Jacksonville
Agreed. I think that some of the hiring and assignation of duties occurred at a
time when his personal health was being given priority over the health of the
program. Now he'll have to either assert the level of control required for the
team to look and act like a team again, or else
A few national championships in a short tenure has earned him some time to
prove otherwise. Yes... this is squarely on his shoulders. He was sick..
he took time off. Fine. Addazio kept things together.. but he had too much
on his plate. Thats squarely on Urban and sorry.. its on Foley too...
I'm in 100% agreement. Meyer gives it 110% or he goes. $4 mill a year
isn't a part time job. If his health is bad, he's got enough money to
retire. If he can't give 110%, regardless of the reason, we need to find
someone who can. This year's travesty---yes, I mean we looked more
disorganized
I agree that much needs to be done, Woody; and I'm sure Meyer is aware of that
too. I think the reason recruiting came up first is that it is where football
programs are in the work-cycle. Signing day is fast approaching. He'll get to
the other things.
A. Leon Polhill, Gator
I was gratified
Thats just it... it all needs to happen fast. If he's gonna go after more
assistants or another OC... he needs to find em and snag em up fast and get
them involved ASAP.

Nice article. Good pun on the libero media
Although the departure of so many assistant coaches bothers me I feel the
problems of this season are temporary.
Meyer has resurrected 3 programs in his career. He has lost coaches with
every change. His OC, at Utah, Kyle Whittingham, went on to be successful
there.
I agree Meyer could be a

Regarding the booster clubs---
I think that Urban never put out the effort to build good will with the
fans. The fans liked him anyway because he won. Now that he's not winning,
there's no underlying feeling of good will to fall back on. Even though SOS

FWIW - the term sweeper was first used in sports in soccer. It usually referred
to the last defender, whose role was different from the other defenders because
his primary responsibility wasn't to guard ( or man mark) a particular
attacker on the other team, but to clean up, or sweep the
To be honest Helen... because we have seen/heard reports of how emotional
Meyer has been in the past... and of course how critical ppl were of him for
it... he probably didnt wanna get emotional on camera for millions to see.
Is that a good excuse? (shrugs) Would what said really made any

On a macro level, my experience was just the opposite. There are/could be
extenuating factors however, so read into this what you will.
The Brevard County Gator Club isn't very high up on the pecking order. Last
year, when Addazio was filling in for Meyer on the circuit, we got Pat Dooley

I'll say one thing about Erin Fleming, after reading the article about her,
I'm impressed that she's a true Gator!
She came to school as a walk-on, then gave up her scholarship so the team
could recruit another athlete.
That's something, especially when you consider she's probably not going on
A couple of more thoughts.
IMO, players on a team know who is the real deal and who isn't . I mean
these guys see each other in practice and know who should be playing.
In the F$U game, Jordan Reed came in the game and we went right down the
field looking like a real offense, insert
I recall another play where Brantley scrambled and got sacked, and two or three
OL threw their arms up in disgust.
I know Meyer believes in different treatment for different players, but it
looks like it's come back to bite him. There needs to be a fine balance between
giving a guy some
Woody,
Urban Meyer keeps a short list of possible coaches at all times just like
Foley keeps a short list of head coaches for all sports. I think Foley got
caught when he had to hire Zook so I think he has kept a short list ever
since. I am sure Urban has already likely made a call or two.
…so I hear….

Probably that's due to a few 'push' games. When the final score hits the
point spread exactly on the nose, the game is called a 'push' and both teams
get counted for a 'win'.at least that's what we do in Pick 'em to try to
help people get better records!
