Yes, I had suggested that to the customer and it would be possible. It
would require some work (HCD/IODF, etc.) to make the volumes
available/known to the zOS system and then to set up and run the DFDss dump
jobs. They are trying to avoid this extra effort since they already have
the DDR

With 5.2, CMS (not xedit) anything entered in CMS converted to uppercase when
the enter key was pressed. With 5.4, the characters no longer convert to
uppercase.

I run into the exact opposite problem.. ie when entering a pipe on the terminal
nothing gets translated to upper case, so one must remember that a 'FIND' or

There is NO problem. Every thing works as before. I just noticed a difference
between our prior VM systems and 5.4.
Our prior systems would convert anything typed in CMS to upper case once the

You are correct. April 2009 is the EoS
Those would be from VM/36 (unrelated to System 36, an early precursor to
VM/370 - that's a JOKE for those who find this years in the future).
What z/VM release level are those from?
Our z/VM 5.1 system reports $PROFILEs (to pick just one filetype) with:
Filename Filetype Fm Format Lrecl
Herman Hollerith invented it. That is why the initial CMS file system
had 80-byte fixed length records :)

the real files named in a pattern for some sort of a file sharing
system. I will write a rexx exec tomorrow to rename each file to it's
original fn/ft and create a VMARC for each tape file. I will then create
an AWS tape-file
