Because the OP can already enter the special chars in Legacy, and the
web pages display them just fine. It's just that the Name Index (index
line) was designed around the English A-Z characters plus no surname
and the two angle bracket categories (for everything else). Because the

When printing a Pedigree charts with photos, the printed photos get smaller
as one goes further from the main person. Of course, this is to be expected
as the ancestral lines get crowded closer together. But, by the 5th
generation they get so small that they are not really useful.

The E drive is a memory stick drive. When I try to back up to the hard
drive, the C drive - I get the same error message.

Before you do anything else, copy your database file to, say, your flash/thumb
drive.
It will have the name of your family file and the '.fdb' extension. So, for

I have to tell you that your experience is not unique. I work on and
with a number of computers and have for a number of years in some highly
delicate settings. The first thing we have done is strip them of Norton.
Norton was a wonderful program when it was first released many years
Had the same problem 3 years ago, except it finally crashed my C: drive. Had to
reformat and reinstall Windows and all programs. Glad I had backups.
