I've used a number of genealogy programs over the past 10-15 years as most of
us have done and I have found that Legacy is about the most versatile one I've
ever used. It has a learning curve to be sure, but I suspect that you will be
a spokesperson for it once you've used it for a while. I'
When I first converted to Legacy via a GEDCOM file a year or so ago, I noted
lots of words in the notes had been imported with a space in the word. i.e.,
‘date’ might be ‘da te’, ‘birth’ might be ‘bir th’, etc. So, I have tried

I have a rather large list of persons that are buried in a specific cemetery,
but the individual records do not reflect this data. Is there an Access table
that would permit me to add this data enmass without having to go to each
person to enter this information? I've looked at all the tables,
When my wife and I married, I adopted her daughter from my wife's previous
marriage. I show my adopted daughter as '1/2' in the program, as I believe the
instructions indicate. My problem is that when I do a chart, I would like to
include her and my grandchildren. How can I accomplish this?
Carl - Could you expand a bit on your system of tagging the individuals and/or
the groups. I have a lot of unrelated folks in my system, and this might help
me better manage the files.

I have been cleaning up some hundreds of errors in the file via the 'Potential

A few weeks back, I indicated that I needed to change all my filing numbers

I do not have the original GEDCOM since this occurred some time ago.
I think I will just wade through the 800+ Files, change the current filing and
try to remember this incident when I next utilize a GEDCOM. Live and learn.

I have encountered a colossal problem that was brought about by an action I
must have inadvertently taken (shame on me) to allow a re-numbering of one or
more fields - specifically the MRIN numbers. Evidently I wasn't paying
attention on a GEDCOM upload feature and didn't discover this until ye
Thank you Dennis - that solved my problem without having to change anything.
Since I had started chaning some of those, it is a great thing to have a backup

I have encountered a problem (whether of my own making or whatever) that is
causing me to re-visit a ton of entries to correct. I noticed this when I
printed a small sample book and after reviewing several dozen entries, I
noticed the following Source Citation sample (it is one of many):

I have a couple of questions on which I need some help:
(1) I adopted my step-daughter and would like to show her as such in my family.
How do I do that? I only seem to be able to add her as my daughter but I
would like for her to show as the daughter of her biological Father for the
genealogy

I need to do some further review of the latest (97) update, but in a book
report I prepared this date, the event's written data did not appear in the
end-notes as I had previously observed. I will make more notes later to see if
there is something I may have omitted.

Dennis - I'll try the '*.fdb' feature in Access as you suggested.
Regarding '...you probably edited something you shouldn't have...' - anything
specific I should avoid in this area?

I keep three .fdb files (bob1.fdb, bob2.fdb and bob3.fdb) plus off site files
as well as a GEDCOM just to be sure I don't lose my current and original data.
Currently, I use Access only for informational purposes in a couple of tables

Minor question - I have located a URL source from rootsweb that I would like
to add to my Legacy data.
Where do most folks place the URL? I initially entered the URL in the burial
data box,which seems logical to enable me to get to that site as needed;
however, I discovered that it didn't

Since I have heard that Legacy and Access are intertwined, is there any data
written out that explains the columnar headings and their uses within the
various Access reports. I am particularly interested in the correlation of the
numbers noted in the columnar headings of 'SrcDetail', 'FilingRef

Color me red (as in embarassed!!!) - Richard and others helped me see
where I was going wrong. I even responded to some that 'oh yes, all my sources
are assigned to persons in my file' - well, much as I hate to admit it, I have
some 80+ sources that I had scanned into my PC and had them
Ron - I had thought of that also, but I checked about 10 of the missing ones
and each are addressed as a source for at least one person in the file.

That feature is checked when I start the GEDCOM, but the end result remains the
same - only 218 of the 299 sources are shown in the new family file when I
open it in Legacy with this new GEDCOM.
