Anyways - I found an image in our national archives of a man that has
the same name as my ancestor, in an area the same as my ancestor. His

I'm preparing for a two week holiday where I'll be visiting family
(living and deceased) and I'll be using our new beaut GPS thingee
which provides coordinates for your location, not just how to travel
from A to B.

Can anyone tell me which table has MRINs? I'd like to change the
MRINs through Access, rather than changing 5,000 MRINs one at a time
through Legacy. Unless anyone has an easier way of changing the

After I read "Getting it right" I started looking at Australian
Timelines, a year ago I updated the one I had on Australian Prime
Ministers. So this time I went to the Australian War Memorial and
used their references to create a timeline on Australians at War, the
only war not listed was Iraq fro

I have some saved settings for creating web pages in individual report
format for several people. Not sure what I've changed but when I
create a report, it goes through the process creates everything, but
my name lists are blank ie zero names listed, while the individual
pages are fine.

conversations with family members, I have changed my ways now. So
without printouts or other more accessible electronic versions of my
file that list my sources, I thought of restoring some of the backups

Some of the emails here have discussed change of names. I've changed
my name through deed poll and now I use my husband's surname. I've
seen other family files where the surname is listed as "Jones Now
Smith" or "Jones/Smith". Others have used birth names and add AKAs
for all the names, as well
One of the tips I noticed in the Legacy website is to create a family
report for each MRIN. I guess its up to you whether you print it out
with each family or not.
I keep mine in various ways, print and electronic files, either
through Passage Express or straight copy to CDs/DVDs, or I save to my

Ahhh, I enter surnames in all capitals, prefer them for my reports.
Was wondering why I got the should use mixed case pop up at me. I

I don't mind having extra AKAs in my file, although I do use an event
for spelling errors in names from research provided by family where
they were guessing at spelling etc.
I've added AKAs in v6 for married names. If I use v7 global change to
married name (because I like the look of the name index format for
married names), do I then have to go into my file and delete all the
AKAs for married names I added in previous versions? (thousands

I've just received from a cousin a gedcom with over 3000 people on it.
Many of these people are in my main file. When I use research from
others I add them as a Master source and add their exact text in
Detail Text - so a straight merge won't add to Detail Text, I've
always copied thei

ashes interred. For those people, I used the burial details for where
they are finally located, and put in the burial note information on
the cremation and burial plot. If I have more information on the
cremation, I'll add a cremat
Did you stop changing your Legacy file at a certain date before you
upgraded to Legacy 6? If yes, then you can do a search for any
modified information after that date in a search. This may help you
find differences. I also use GenMatcher to check against Legacy and
gedcom files for differences

Internet - my immediate family members have let me know they don't
want to find themselves on the Internet. So I create CD-ROMs with a

I have saved myself lots of mouse and keyboard usage by right clicking
on MRIN and RIN for husband and wife at the bottom of the family
view, its a big time saver when you know which MRIN or RIN you want to

parents interesting. My cousin was adopted by friends, so I list him
in with his biological family, and with adoptive parents.

Tried that Ron, can't seem to lock out the programs on the start menu
in XP for her logon. I've come into the computer room to find her on
software programs like Legacy and Word. She's also prone to changing
shortcut icons on the desktop to her name, very helpful child. So, my

I use Legacy with Passage Express to create autorun CD-ROMs. I've
found that PE regularly removes any "_" for file names, so all files
with "_" aren't found and I see the dratted box with the red cross for
my images etc that have "_" in them. I've had to work around this by
changing all of my "_"

were born with one surname and later changed it for various reasons.
In my case using stepfather's name, deed poll and marriage name
changes, with notes in private brackets [[]] listing dates etc. I use

should be realistic with limitations, such as some very odd dates at
times. Still, when you are trying to figure out if someone may have
been alive during particular events such as wars etc, the GEST dates
can be useful.
