Hi there:
After my raid-1 is up and running I shutdown the
machine and took out one hard disk.(the one without
Linux installed.) Just to see how it behaves.
During reboot it drops to single user mode due to RAID
device error.

modprobe: can't locate module block-major-22

Make sure /dev/sda5 and /dev/sdb5 are not mounted when
"/sbin/mkraid /dev/md0" is issued.

I put some data files in /dev/hda8 and leave /dev/hdc8
empty. After issuing mkraid it doesn't seem to sync
hdc8 to hda8, which is specified as failed-disk.
After mkraid, I am expecting /dev/hdc8 to have the

We are having a peculiar problem with Linux software RAID on a new
fileserver. The server is running kernel 2.2.12 configured to support
both RAID-5 and RAID-0. We are using raidtools-0.90-5 which came with
this redhat-based installation. On this machine, we have two raid
devices configured: md
While this does not help your situation, DPT does provide
a 2.2.5 kernel patch which continues to apply cleanly (and works
great) up to 2.2.13.
I've been using it with a PM3754U2 card with their external
DPT-RS/7UW with five drives in a RAID-5 for ~3 months.

The SCSI adapter is an onboard AIC-7880, FWIW. Works like a

of the raid setup. I finally got around to setting up the raid however I've
run into a problem. Here's the rundown.
Hardware setup

Two 4.3GB Ultra Wide SCSI disks

My RAID-1 box has been running without problems since I upgraded
to 2.2.12, as has a client's machine I have running a 4-drive
RAID-5.
