If you have lot of EPS images, better use dvipdfm instead of pdflatex. Sometime the pdf-images converted from epstopdf look bad after rendering with pdflatex... (I don't know). A compatiblity tag must be set in eps2pdf, see the tex2pdf-devel archive. ^^^
