Yes, Mike, the old plunger type pump won’t allow fuel to flow or just lets too
much air into the system when it fails. Whenever I come across one of these I
immediately replace it for just that reason.
Glad you got it going. Gotta love those simple fixes.

Hellluva deal. I have no need/interest, but if I did I would snag it If it’s as

excellent choice. Basic, bulletproof for the most part,
$4k-$5k for a nice one without issues. Don’t ask me how I know.

I built fine hardwood furniture for upwards of 20 years as a hobby. Never once
did I save my saw or sanding dust to make filler. I rarely used filler as I was
typically able to make joints that didn’t require filler. The few places I
might use it was for trim that might have been secured with

This car is well known to the 500E guys.

I would be more concerned about someone who has a lien on a 50 year old
relatively low value car.

Rear windows are fine on these. Seat belt presenters can be an issue. Mileage
is important, too, as the M103s need valve guides and head gaskets about every
175k or thereabouts. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of.

Pretty much. More small planes than cars, IIRC. I worked on a number of sites
where the workers commuted by plane (daily).

I’ll end up buying a smart tv, no doubt, but since I have control over its
ability to connect out, that will never happen.
End of story, marketeers can stuff it.

I don’t use the application thing at AAP, I just go by group number. In some
cases you’ll get more results that way.
Battery I just bought for the 220SEb was like $80 after all the promo codes and
spiffs I had. Their application thing picked the wrong group number, too.

Agreed. Cool car, ditch the wheels. Never understood the attraction of
basketweave wheels. Any time someone expressed interest in a set I alway
suggest they find someone who has some and ask what it’s like to clean them, or
offer to do it for the experience.

“Clean” is a relative term. No generator powered by an internal combustion
engine produces “clean” power. If you look at the sine wave from any generator
like this it will have all sorts of noise on it and the waveform will not be
symmetrical or smooth.
What will matter most, if it cares, is
Clear coat is a scourge. There’s no fix short of a repaint.
The SL500 has a dime sized spot on the hardtop roof in the clear that is
starting to spread. I’m ignoring it. Worst case, I take the top to a small
local shop all stripped down and have them paint it.

Holden would be an Aussie car, I believe. I don’t think they were sold in the
Isles.

Yes, the trick with the rear view mirror spring works on any of them that use
the opposing spring loaded pin arrangement. Beats the heck out of having to
bang on them to get it back in the base.
As for knowing what has to be done, when I get a car that’s new to me, I spend
some time surveying
Not sure.
They consist of a wiper on a resistance element. Since it’s submerged in
gasoline I would expect it to be pretty robust. Other than some corrosion from
condensation on the case that covers the resistive element everything was in
good shape. In an earlier blog post I detailed
W123 coupe rear windows are always an issue, I’ve found. I’m not sure if it’s
age, wear or design, but they always seem to be sketchy at best.

No 107s. Too boring.

Because all 107 coupes were yawners. Except the 500s, of course.
