Let me know if you need more info from a wiring diagram, it does sound like
something is hooked to the wrong position on the switch (or your switch is
flaky).

Removing the ALDA provides full fuel all the time, which means full power, but
more smoke and no safety if the turbo waste gate fails (melted pistons may
result).

Nicks are in the case (outer), so RTV would certainly work except that MB says
"nien" for fear some excess will clog a piston-cooling oil jet.
Sleeve would be appropriate if the damage was worse.

The two dimples have raised edges which deform the seal, so the edges need to
be taken down.
What anerobic sealant do you recommend? Last time I put together a VW air
cooled engine, I used Permetex Aviation gasket maker (I think, was over twenty
years ago).

I wired the butterfly valve in the full open position, then
plugged the hose for the EGR. Later I'll fashion a blocking plate.

I was wrong, owner's manual for a 123 says horizontal is normal position which
locks/unlocks with CLS. This is opposite from my '95 E300 (124).

Some sort of sensor or coil that does not like getting hot. Unless it
has thrown a code it might be hard to figure out. You could try
jiggling various connectors to make sure nothing is lose.

The other code is for mass air flow circuit, which has a limp home mode that
cuts off fuel above 2400 RPM, so that is definitely part of the problem.

I've read somewhere that MB transmissions are designed/tuned to expect "normal"
power and torque from the engine they are bolted to. An engine which is not
providing full power is easily mis-diagnosed as a transmission problem, because
the shifting is wrong. That may be what happened to you.
Neither my OM603 nor my OM606 work like that.

My guess would be a leak allowing air into the injection pump, either a rubber
fuel line or the primer pump. Try cycling the primer pump like 50 or 75 times,
if the sound/effort changes, that's your problem, you'll need to crank for
another 30 seconds or so to get her started.

Could be a B2 piston problem, which can be fixed in-situ. A broken B2 piston
causes exactly what you describe.

Problem is you can't evaluate the car fully. Suspension might be shot,
differential may howl, rear axles knock, AC dies after 10 minutes, cruise
control, steering play, etc.
$500 tops, and that is being generous.

That car can more fairly be priced by evaluating the condition during a road
test or a PPI, because it does actually drive.

When the fuel thermostat o-ring failed on my '87, leak appeared to be from the
bottom of the injection pump. That is a common place for a fuel leak.
