Is it a PCI modem? If so, you're probably trying to use a
WinModem or HSP modem. Neither one will work under Linux.

used lnx4win. During setup, his network card was not recognized, and he
has problems to install it later.

I challenge you to notice the difference in the performance. Most 56K HSP
devices have to be slowed to V.34 performance before they become reliable
unless you have a P-III 500 with 128Mb RAM and don't run anything else while
using your modem.
It is no fun to be using a modem

I'm not sure what you would install on 98 so that you could write to you
linux machine, but Sharity (I think the URL is
www.obdev.at/Products/Sharity) will let you see your win98 drive from
linux and get files off it (it'll create a directory on your linux system
that acts somewhat like network

AOpen has 4 56K v.90 modems listed for PCI and two are called software
modems while the other two are called controller-less modems. Reading on
carefully, I get the picture--two are called HSP and two are called
winmodems. They use differing Rockwell Chipsets..
