[newbie] mandrake 8.1 on dell notebook

redhat 7.1 it works fine.  But under mandrake 8.1 I get an error that says "unable to mount unknown source".  I then went to linuxconf and tried to mount it there and got the same message.  Any ideas?   Thanks, Bob
