Did you downloaded a file with the extension tar.gz ? The file name
should be something like emu10k1-20001013.tar.gz. This is a compressed
file that you first have to uncompress. You do that with the command
tar xvzf filename.tar.gz

I had problems with my SB Live card on 7.1. After running sndconfig, doing the
pocedures at linuxnewbie.com, etc, I discovered that my cord from the sound card to
the speakers was plugged into the digital port. While this works in Windows, it
doesn't work in Linux. Make sure you are using

My rear speakers seem to have died for some reason, I hope my soundcard is okay.
They are not working under Windows either, although the rear speakers were working

cards. I've got one, and it worked out of the box with both 7.0 and 7.1.
Only problems I've ever had (with both) is that I can't get music (sound
fx is fine) with Doom or Heretic.
Am I just lucky? ;-)
