After reading Isaac Grant's positive post of 7/17 re: shorebirds at the
East Pond of JBWR, I arrived at Cupsogue in high hopes...and left a bit
disappointed. If anything, the # of shorebirds on the flats appeared to be
less than the last time I was here, on 7/9. The only birds of note were 2

I spent ~ 3 hours trying to find the gull this

in the following order: New Suffolk marshes & beaches; fields on & off

Earlier today, North Fork birder Jody Levin, while chauffeuring her 105
"years young" father on business, sighted a gull, in a newly plowed farm
field, that looked "different". The bird was in a flock of mostly
Ring-billed Gulls, with a few Herring Gulls amongst them.

Sorry for the late post - I'm hoping that someone, not seeing this negative
post yesterday, decided to give it a shot, and got the bird today !
Yesterday,as planned, I met with Rich Guthrie & Jon Askildsen at Cupsogue

In my earlier post of 7/8, I forgot to include seeing/hearing at least 4

last year, and probably, did so again this year.
Cheers,
Bob

Today, between 1030 & 1400, I was on the flats at Cupsogue Co. Pk., being
one of the 5 birders mentioned by Shane Blodgett. The only birds of note
that I saw during those 3 & 1/2 hours were 6 Royal Terns, 2 Black Terns,
and finally getting to see the hybrid calidris sandpiper (dunlin x

the words "phillppic" and "hagiography" - an exercise, which normally would
make my day !
3) You will never meet a more knowledgeable (in his field), accomm
This morning I worked on the shrubs and plants around our condo and this
afternoon I relaxed at our communal pool. During this whole span of time I
continually checked the internet re: the Elegant Tern. After dinner, at ~

I had a good feeling about today while still in the parking lot of Cupsouge
Co. Pk., when I didn't run into anyone who had seen the Red-necked Stint
earlier in the day (as in D/c/f/m/A 1&2). The 2 birders I did meet where,
in my mind, about 180 degrees from each other. The 1st was Jim Clinton Jr.,
