That shows faad.exe is OK. It looks like your problem is not caused by
the usual sources.
Since the illstreet48.pls also fails - it indicates the problem is in
the SC transcoding which involves faad.exe but it is not clear why it is
failing. So it is necessary to get some more detailed log

a Sheevaplug to use as a server.
it's quite a powerful device and with a lot of reading /trial and error
i hope this will improve my Squeeze performance,which is rather limping

I believe a QNAP should be able to play AAC streams provided
1. The faad is built using the fixed point option
2. the AAC streams are played as PCM and not transcoded into MP3 or
FLAC
I believe The Sheevaplug processor has no floating point which will
mean that any transcoding into MP3 or Flac

It says under Audio 'you do not appear to have LAME installed`- do I
need this? It sounds vaguely familiar from when I
Lame is only needed for bit rate limiting - which means it is probably
OK.
Specifically do you have any of MS Office installed - Word, Excel,
Powerpoint ? If so what version. I think a library may be missing.

Please try to run the program faad.exe (it decode AAC) to see if
libraries are the problem.
1. Open a Command prompt windows (XP Start/Accessories/Command Prompt
2. Change directory to the directory which has faad.exe. On English
Windows it is in C:\Program
I've just upgraded my SSOTS and SC to the latest versions as below-
iPlayer was working just fine before on SSOTS 3.15 and SC7.3 Getting the
same symptoms - no sound on any feed from iPlayer although the Duet
display shows all the right things. No sound on my Boom or squeezeplay
either.
Are in the UK or not ? Only AAC will work if you are outside of the
UK.
Can you play this stream on your system - it will test AAC playback.

added to your system which is non standard but enabled AAC support.

Qnap ts 109 has SoC 500Hhz processor. I bought the box for this purpose
be sad if it can't do aac feeds.

I think 500Mhz processor might be borderline to decode AAC and re-encode
into Flac particularly if the processor does not have floating point

I am having a problem with listen again - live works fine. I also had
the same issue with several 7.41 interim builds - the last time it
worked was with the 7.4 [but that once suffered form the multiple
instances problem].
I see all the program listings and can choose a progam - but

and the version no needs to be updated for 7.4.1.
The categories issues is a limitation placed by BBC I have an idea
which may provide a similar feature for BBCiPlayer but putting effort
into maintaining AlienBBC means new

Alien BBC whines about not having mplayer - I presume this has been

Iplayer does everything apart from making any sound - no error message
- just no sound.

What sort of player are you using ?
If you are on SSOTS and using an older player (i.e. not SB Radio or
Squeezeplay) - make sure SSOTS has the faad and flac that have been
built with the patches that come with SBS.
I'm in the UK. I've installed 7.4 using SSODS 4.1. Was hopefully this
would have the latest sound drivers.
It's strange there are no errors the picture appears but just no sound
and no errors on the duet.
How do I update faad flac easily?

SSODS creator has to ensure the flac and faad issues as it require a
special build.
As a test - can you play this AACplus stream - if it works then faad
and flac are OK.

That SOMAfm stream is 48k - the BBC streams are typically 128k for UK
listeners so your system may mot be able to handle transcoding the
higher speed better quality Flash / AAC.
You didn't say what sort of player you but assuming you do not have an
SB1 or older, then you could try disabling

One reason for using Alien is that occasionally I find programmes that
are available on Listen Again in AlienBBC but not in iPlayer.
It's a BBC issue, not an iPlayer one, as those same programmes can't be
downloaded to my computer using iPlayer Downloader.

The BBC create the Web pages from the schedule info and so the assigned
program id are usually known when Web page are available so AlienBBC
knows a program id even before the program is broadcast and so it can
start playing it as soon as the program file has been created.
BBCiPlayer uses the

The only other reason I'd like to keep the Alien functionality over
iPlayer these days is that occasionally I encounter other real audio
streams and I believe Alien is the only way to play these on my
SqueezeBoxes.
The better Favorite handling will go away when BBC stop RealAudio
streams in March 2010 - the real solution is to fix SBS alarm handling
of streams.
If you want to wake up to live BBC streams - I suggest using the WMA
streams.
It is the intention to create two Plugins - one for RealAudio

Alien seems to have better Favourite handling of streams, especially

When the BBC retire RealAudio, AlienBBC will not show any menu items as
there will be no RealAudio URLs provided so you will not be able to set
alarm based on Alien entries/Favorites.
Once RealAudio is gone,
I run a QNAP 209 and have just completed the upgrade to SS7.4.1. I can
not get BBCiplayer to work, fails to connect. I have tried the SS
inbuilt radio straeams and they work. What am I missing?
My guess is that it is someting to do with the stream?

update the alarm functionality so it can support regular favorites from
the iPlayer plugin.
I also notice that even trying to play a simple stream directly using
7.4 with AlienBBC fails:

recently made available and that you say to go to the plugins options on
7.4 to get the latest version. On my squeezecenter plugins information
BBC iPlayer shows as v0.4 and I have the option ticked to upgrade
plugins
Did you install BBCiPlayer manually? I suspect this is the problem - so
please remove it and restart the server so the plugins page says it is
not installed. Then select to install from the recommended repo.

Thanks, I did that - I just physically removed the plugin directory and
restarted then installed and now have 0.9d. Now it works, but only if I
select the programme from the web interface (maybe it always did, I
don't normally use the web interface). If I use the squeezebox 3 remote
