I think it is time to start the official propaganda campaign for our

We will have 2 days of intense competition with (hopefully) some of the

Friday report
What a great day we had today. A bunch of people showed up despite some
very low clouds and even rain to the north of the area. The weather
improved throughout the day and by the afternoon we had some areas of
blue sky and later the sun came out and it the sky opened up.
I did not get any new registrations since the weekend, so I guess we
will have to split all those nice raffle prizes between the 24 of us (or
probably fewer, since some people will not show up as usual). Pilots,
please bring a lot of cash for the raffle tickets :-)

Major news. I came home from a short vacation yesterday and found a
rather large box on my porch from JR/Horizon with a message "contest

Hello, y'all!
It is time to start planning your trip to one of the greatest HLG
contests on the East Coast. The East Coast HLG Festival 2005 will take
place on October 22-23, in Wilson, North Carolina.
No matter of you are a beginner or an expert, if you like going to HLG

Charles, I am glad you asked because I kinda fell asleep at the wheel.
Yes, absolutely there will be ECHLGF this year! We had the date finalized long
ago. Some minimal information and registration is available at the ESL web-site:
http://www.flyesl.com/calendar.asp
The dates are October 22-23,
OK, got it, thanks a lot!
Do you think this will work in North Carolina also? :-)

No, that is a natural tendency of all airplanes in a circling flight. The
inside
wing travels at a slower speed and requires a higher AoA than the outside wing
to produce the same amount of lift. Outside aileron deflection equalizes the
lift. The amount of deflection depends on the turning radi
Joe,
thanks for sharing your setup tricks. I notice you always use more ail->rud
coupling for thermal modes, both TD and HLG. What do you do during circling,
when you need to give some opposite aileron to counteract the over-banking
tendency?
I always disable ail->rud coupling in thermal mode fo
We decided to get a little more "serious" about hand launch in our club since
we
have had a required critical mass of HLG diehards for a while now (about 4-5
pilots). So we planned 2 practice contests this spring to warm-up for the new
season and be ready when the real competitions start.
