Is the external drive connected via FireWire to your computer? Do a 'Get Info' and make sure you have 'Read & Write' privileges on the .inProgress file. Also if you have Fast User Switching turned on, you won't be able to delete the file. I have to knock off now as I have a 4AM start tomorrow.

why not just opening the time capsule box replace the drive with a 2t one, format to hfs journaled & the capsule has more capacity.. i'm using a second hand drive from an old security cam recorder (500gig win format) formatted it for mac & ...works as time capsule James SAD
