Hi, My Dentist who is a teaching Dentist at a prestigious Chicago College, claimed that I needed a Root Canal to save the tooth. I said I didn't need the tooth and just pull it. We argued and she won. The root canal took place. $750.00 for the service. (at that time) When she went to take the temp filling out there was still a lot of abscess. So for the next several weeks it was remove filling, drain the tooth, put another temp filling in. I was not a happy camper. Finally she gave me something that was "brand new" and if that did not kill the infection SHE WAS GOING TO PULL THE TOOTH, the one she so valiantly fought me to keep the tooth. Plus my $750.00 was down the drain.......... and no tooth to boot...... She said to wait for six weeks and then come in for the finale. Either a filling or a pulling..... About three days before the appointed day, I could feel the abscess. I did not want to lose this expensive tooth at any cost, so I got some DMSO and mixed it with CS (90% cs & 10%dmso) and put the solution on a rolled up cotton gauze pad then packed it onto the gum line between the gum and the lip inside my mouth three times a day for about 15 min each time. On the third day the abscess was gone. When I went to the Dentist, she was so happy that the "new stuff" worked.... I didn't have the heart to tell her, and she probably didn't want to know. So that's my experience with a root canal and CS with DMSO ( which was the carrier that got the CS to the problem) Hope my experience will be of a help to you. I was told almost five months ago by my dentist that I need a root canal for one of my upper molars because of the infection around (or in) the roots of that tooth (as shown by X-ray). I said "No" at the time, largely because of my concerns about the long-term toxicity of root-canaled teeth (according to some dental practitioners). So, I was given a penicillin-like antibiotic which eliminated the pain, but the pain has been slowly and gradually returning during the last three months. Given my dislike for antibiotics and my suspicion about the dangers of root canals, I'm looking for alternatives. I assume that CS would kill the noxious bacteria around the roots of my infected tooth if there was a way to deliver CS to the site of the infection (which undoubtedly likes below and inside gum tissue). Could drinking a certain quantity of CS for a certain period of time be helpful? Gargling with CS or spraying the infected tooth and surrounding tissue with CS would seem to be inadequate because it's not likely that CS could get into and under the skin at the point of infection. Could I be wrong about that? Your thoughts about this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
