It was added to the 2007 edition of 13R (A.6.7.7.1.5.6). The lower level of protection for a 13R system doesn't impact this issue since it is inside the room verses unoccupied and concealed spaces.

A somewhat related proposal was accepted at the ROP meeting. Proposal 13-496 effective mimicked the Architectural Feature text from 13D whereby 18 sf of shadowed floor area is allowed.

I know this has been discussed before but I can't find a paragraph showing how a small wall offset with 4 SF of floor area that is not protected will not require an additional sprinkler in all the bedrooms in the nursing wing. I understand the obstruction principal but need NFPA 13 to spell it out for
the inspector.

Is there a paragraph I that will explain it?
